Since I have a 28 human elementalist (light armour, plan to go Priory), a 25 Charr warrior (Vigil, heavy armor) and am now leveling my level 15 asura engineer (whispers, medium armor) I'm pretty sure I'll manage to get them all to 30 since so far I haven't shared ANY content between the 3. So the reroll value is no doubt far higher than most MMO's out there.

Well ofc you can, its been out for 8 years.

WoW's music is epic. The Night Elf zone music was the first thing I heard when I began playing and it was super ultra epic. I can't remember the themes for a lot of the old MMOs which have also been out for like 6-10 years.

IMO there is no point of saying IMO because clearly everything you say on discussion boards is your own opinion. Don't really need to start/end each sentence with IMO!

Preach. Teldrassil and Ashenvale's music instantly takes me back to so many of my memories.

Sorry you don't like it...For a long time I was wary of this game, at times  I was interested and at other times I wasn't. At the end of the day it came down to playing it and I've found that I love it more than I have liked other MMO's. I just want to keep playing, it's the 1st MMO that feels like the world is alive and has all of this stuff to participate in. I understand where the OP comes from with the sense of tedium that can happen but in all fairness if you just keep moving you're really not in any single place long and the events and quests or whatever you would call them are not all the same. Yeah, there are lots of escorts and yeah there are lots of cent aurs. But I have yet to repeat any content on any of my characters, my highest is in the 50's now and looking at the world map, I won't have to repeat content for any of those characters. The game is gorgeous, the score is beautiful, and I personally love how the combat works in the game. It feels really fluid to me!

No, what's getting tedious and boring are threads like these.  Good luck finding an MMO that's worth the price to you.  Personally, I don't think you're going to like the direction the genre is heading, and that goes for a lot of other people who I think honestly are NEVER going to be satisfied and just keep hoping for something that won't happen.

This idea that all mmo’s must follow the same formula to be considered a mmo is not only trite; it’s holding the genre back.

I largely feel the same way as the op, GW 2 is nothing more than another theme park; although granted, not as rigid as some, and enjoyable enough for an hour or two, but that’s as far as it goes.

I am hopeful that at some point, a new mmo will turn up and folks will say "shit", why wasn’t that done like this before. The problem is not so much the type of questing kill x, protect y, or deliver z; it’s this directed, led by the hand, follow our path to the end, where every class has the same build, armour/weapons, that all recent mmo’s have offered.

Because player efforts have no effect on these worlds, there is nothing to invest time and effort in, to feel a real part of. There is something to be said for a group of players carving out their own unique corner of a game world calling it home, and fighting off other players to protect it, creating something through their efforts that has a lasting impact on the local environment.

Personally, I feel MMO's have lost their way, the original vision was about creating new worlds, with their own rules, and populating them with players to make of them what they will.

The "grind" was a placeholder for content, a means for keeping players occupied and to encourage a sense of reward; however, developers have now kicked the arse out of the idea, applying the "grind" to everything they can pollute with the filth. It’s now at the point the community is split in two, those that want grind on everything, a surrogate for rl employment; and those that only have a couple of hours to spare in the evening and perhaps a few extra at the weekend.

I personally long for a decent, classless sandbox, the genre desperately needs one, recent efforts have been half arsed; trash like Mortal Online would scare the most ardent mmo fan off the genre for life.

I really do believe mmo gamers need a game where they can forge their own path; decide on their own skill set, have rare hard to learn skills, the removal of must have X armour, or weapons from Y raid, where player effort has an impact on creating items in the game world, have crafting ingredients with rng properties, so players have a reason to keep searching for better. By all means, have interesting poi, large difficult dungeons, and resource rich areas that create regions to be fought over, but allow players to feel as if they really are in an alternate world, where they can have an impact on their surroundings.

Wishful thinking? Perhaps, but it’s what the genre desperately needs to keep moving forward.

My Colour Is Vomit green, I puke on the tards with stupid colour sigs. My symbol is ,,!, O ,!,, My enemies are any prat with a colour sig, a meaningless personality test, or a pointless list of games and classes.

When it comes to leveling experiences in themepark MMORPGs, I don't think I've ever played anything more compelling than GW2.

    So yeah, I disagree.

I take GW2 as a side game and it fills that slot for me well imho. Would not pay monthly for it but considering it does not have sub it's a great entertainment.

I use the mouse to strafe/turn view and the keyboard to cast spells.

Keyboard turners use the mouse to click spells and... the keyboard to turn.

Thats what your title should have said because thats all it is.

But at the same time, the same could be said about a thread that is titled...

"Guild Wars 2 is a great game" ... in my opinion

Because in the end, isn't every single review if you like or dislike a game jsut an opinion they had about it? Just because the opinion is against what YOU feel doesn't mean its any less valid then your own.

The camera is a personal oponion because i personally like it and personally i would pay a subscription for this game if there would be a lifetime sub option that would cost me a shitload of money i would pay for it...  I have played the beta and i have seen at what rate they release updates..  i have seen the games pvp and class balance completely change from 1 beta to another because of player feedback.

I am bored of these "i know it all"    " I speak for everyone"   "predicting the future threads" they make no sense + they are boring to read + they add nothing for you or anyone else.

Actually should have been more like "I suck at playing this game, so I think it sucks".

    1) apparently doesnt realize that you can turn with keys instead of RMB, or that both forms of turning are pretty much standard in MMOs

    2) thinks that the jumping back with a rifle shot is a novelty, doesnt understand that he is playing with a ranged weapon and its way to instantly get out of melee range like youre SUPPOSED to when playing as ranged

    3) cant figure out the shops and is somehow missing out on the bags and bags full of blue & green gear that everyone else is using, selling, and salvaging

    4) thinks button mashing = effective way of fighting. likely hasnt touched PvP or left the starter zones for that matter

Edit: Apprently Im right about #4:

A Mrs Mary Olsen the teacher enters her class. Asks her students a question: "Do you like killing X mobs over and over again repetedly because Sir Nathan Perter Cole said so ?

    Student 1: Nope

Teacher Mrs MO: Then please leave my Themepark. This class is not for you.

Next Question: Do you want Sir. NPCole to tell you how many X to kill and for no apparent reason but just that he has a fetish for them? Then help Sir NPC2 his brother to get to Point B from A. Cause he likes to walk this route. Then help their 3rd cousin NPC3 in his room with this Elite mob that sits there trying to kill NPC3, but for some reason he doesnt leave. Then you go to NPC 4 who does  what NPC did and NPC 5 who does what NPC 2 did, and so on and on.

    Student 2: Yes

Teacher Mrs. MO: Please go to WoW, it does it the best. It will suit you. If you want to look flashier with shinier graphics join some of the WoW clones.

Student 3: But MMO i dont like knowing how many to Kill, i rather be given a reason why Sir NPC needs what he needs, and then show me how it makes a difference to his life and to the others around him. i Like to play a small Role in the world wtih other random people playing a Role in it.

Teacher Mrs MO: Then join tthe GW2 line. Sir NPC will tell you why he needs & what he needs. He will even show you what he does with it. You can even help him out after he gets what he needs, if you so feel like it. You can even help him get back to his lab where he uses the killed mob loot which you got him with your friends around, so he doesnt die on the way. You can see what he made, if it is something dangerous time to SAVE HIM! He then thanks you and you can leave or try doing it again if he back to his old tricks. Or Maybe find another fool who does something similar but with a new loot, doesnt build something but tries destroying it, does walk somewhere but tries to get his transport ship there. Or sends his friends to get some thing back from his Room, So maybe you need to help his friend now! and on and on.

This is how Themepark MMO's go. Dont like them, you are free to leave.

This is common for people who enjoy today's WoW.  Not saying this is a bad thing.  Some people just gravitate back to what they're used to and that's natural.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

Maybe the way players participate in them (compulsively/"addicted") is the "formula" that needs re-thinking.

Whenever a game begins to feel tedious, I just put it away for a while.  Don't see how that even merits discussion.

If the op's surprised about his own threshold for "tedious", people's tolerance for the repetitiveness of MMOs is absolutely individual and variable...even within the same individual over time.  That also doesn't merit much discussion.

I ignore completely troll threads cause ignoring is the best way to fight them but feel bad for all the GW2 players that feel the need to respond to crap like this thread.
Ignore the troll and they will be talking to each other instead.

Breaks combat? You can run circles around mobs without ever breaking combat. Unless you use mouse to move forward during combat of course. Then you probably die all the time.

I think that the OP is annoyed by the combat difficulty and that prevents him from enjoying the rest of the game. Of course events will become tedious if you still can't fight well after some time.

My advice, learn to move using wasd keys otherwise you will never enjoy combat at higher lvl in GW2. Or a maybe controller? (never tried myself, Im used to wasd and mouse) Moving with just mouse will make you an easy target even for PVE mobs. And maybe try some different packs and weapons for your engineer if you are tired about that overcharged shot skill. It is actually a usefull skill to get rid of snares or move away from strong mobs.

This is the kind of comment I don't get. What game WOULD you pay monthly for then???

  • SeunlauSeunlau Member UncommonPosts: 28

Simply put, before GW2 Was released, 80% of the people on mmorpg.com could easily imagine paying a monthly fee for GW2 when it was released. After visiting tons of hyped topics, reviews and "GW2 is the real thing". People got brainwashed, simple as that.

But things have changed now, people are back on earth again. And how do I know that? Because those 80% of the people on mmorpg.com TODAY (few days after the release) could still play GW2 BUT NOT imagine paying a monthly fee for GW2. I agree that 80% might be an overkill but dont tell me that 50% isn't already down on earth already?

Mmorpg.com is one of the most Hyped GW2 forums with alot of players. If Its negative here, then it won't do any better in the rest of the forums online. It says itself, GW2 is losing people already.

Long story short, the remaining players in GW2 are being nervous, visiting these topics and creating new topics to get rid of their bad feeling "Damn, I bought GW2 but Its fun, ITS FUN... right?" Sooner or later though, they will be able to let go of those dollars and get down to earth which makes us a total of 50% determined dislikes on GW2.

2012-09-02 mark my words, in about 10 days GW2 will be in WAR at this forums. Its very easy to see already.

PS :I love being a realist, but sometimes I like fantasy too :)

    Best regards

Just to add to this, I haven't played another MMO that makes better use of my Merc Stealth keyboard than this. Having the arrows keys on the left side all by themselves fits this game like a glove.

Want to talk boring and tedious...stannding in one spot, hitting the same 2 button combinations, and not having to move an inch over the course of a fight. that is the definition of boring and tedious. At least here you actually have to move around and can use all your skills as you move.

What an amazing concept! To think in 2012 we have a major MMO where you can move AND use all your skills. Soon you're going to tell me there's going to be a game that discovered a way to get rid of having to wait in a que to play....

TSW for example. I love TSW story, quests, dialogue and many mor things. In fact after playing for couple of weeks I bought my first and probably last lifetime. GW2 is a fun game and I like it but I have to skip all dialogue in it because it's atrocious imo. Feels like written by 12 years old for 12 years old. Had to delete my first toon, human necro, because he was so good I got sick. At least Norn have nice viking setting whicks is bearable. Still, gameplay feels good and it's fun except that crazy camera they have.

Of course, that requires the production of threads that aren't "trolls", or ceasing to read entirely.

"Forum PvP" evolved from bored people killing time with pointless arguments.  Not much else happens here.

Dynamic Events get more and more repetitive.  Am sick to death of escorting quests. Really do we have to escort people at least ten times in every zone? Its designed as a clever timesink to make you feel you progress at a slow pace. Even if its nott escort, its kill a thousand centaurs, bandits, worms. YAWN AND MORE YAWN.

Personal Story- Even more tiresome quests which involved escorting or saving someone. More bandits and centaurs. Great.

Gear- Can buy stuff with karma or pick up off the odd random mob. Most of the karma vendors don't have much and the majority of loot you pick is crafting stuff. Yawn another timesink.

The World- Didn't get a feeling of OMG this is epic.  Where's the decent music scores in this game? Cities are instanced nuff said.

Replayability value- the thought of getting to even level 30, then re-rolling and going through the dynamic event system again makes me feel nauseous. zerg fests of button mashing in every zone is not my idea of fun.

Which mmorpg has more variety in these areas by the level 10? You said in other thread that you played to level 10. So what's the game that you claim has more variety, more epic overall, and better combat system by level 10. I'm really curious, please name that awesome game so we all can try it out :)
