Website down...time to dive in??

Heys all

I've had my eyes on Xyson for along time. TBH I think alot of sandbox fans who havent tried Xyson have. Today I noticed the website is down and NG mentioned recently that they are planning to increase their advertisement and hopefully bring in new players. I hope the website comes back up with a reduced game price because I for one will be finally diving into the game without hesitation. I can imagine a reduced price will draw in many players as well and hopefully the population will pick up to make for a much more enjoyable experience. A game like Xyson needs a decent amount of players to thrive.

Eyes glued to the screen for now until the website comes back up. Been waiting for ages to finally try Xyson, and I hope to god the new advertising brings in many new players. Xyson imo ( I think just about everyone would agree) has the most potential of any sandbox MMO on the market right now....*fingers crossed*

Any idea what they plan to do as far as more advertising goes? Simply a new website or is there a chance of a reduced game and/or sub price?

Don't mean to crap on the thread, but I have "issues" with their choice to do a round of PR at the current development stage.  Apparently they have hired some PR firm to help them attract new players.  I really don't feel the game is in a state that will keep any new players for more than a month or two and will in fact present such a bad impression that they will not return when the game is actually in a more decent state down the line.

A niche game doesn't grow because of big advertising, it grows because the game is worth playing.  There is no major studio or publishing name behind it, no major IP, no big name developer. There is no horn to toot so to speak except for the gameplay itself.

Just before the official launch there was a huge influx of players as word-of-mouth spread about the game and its intended features.  There was zero advertising or company generated hype.  The forums here were all abuzz with mentions of Xsyon as the next big sandbox experience.   It was in such shoddy shape at the time, though, it turned off hundreds of players who then spread bad word-of-mouth.  Its reputation still hasn't recovered from that.  At the time, Xsyon (Jordi, the lead programmer and owner) admitted that the game was not ready to handle that many players.  I feel it still isn't ready.

I don't begrudge them for looking ahead and preparing for a time when they WILL need to turn on the PR tap and start bringing in players to populate a feature rich/complete game, but doing this now when so much is left unfinished or in a bugged state is simply paying for the ammunition that they will shoot themselves in the foot with.

TL;DR  I think spending money and taking time away from actual game development to do PR at this stage is a big mistake.

Ya, ive heard the same thing. But at the same time more players also means more profit for them allowing NG to add more content and fix bugs faster. I don't bout Xsyon has some issues presently (even AAA titles have issues after years of patches) but unless NG can bring in new blood how do the players ingame expect the game to go anywhere?

The potential is there for Xsyon from what I've seen. Simply reducing the $40 price alone would probly even bring in more players which in turn would allow more profit and quicker patches and new content.

So what is the deal now?  Website has been down for over 24 hrs.  Now, it appears the server has been down a few hours as well.  I don't do facebook so will not get my updates there.  Nothin in my email either.  Second apocolypse maybe?  Oh well, a kind soul here was graciuos enough to pass along a Salem beta key, guess I'll go take a look at another sandox.

Waiting on it as well. Hoping website comes up soon and with a reduced game cost to attract new players. :-)

Are we talking reduced buy in cost or monthly?

I found the game a good distraction for about a month but then I sort of hit a wall.  Getting rid of old totems will get me back for one month at least and then we will see.  Playing Salem beta now and hitting the same problem. . although I am currently  very addicted.  Playing it made me think of firing Xsying up again.

Now is a great time to get in. MrDDT posted what is being planned. He neglected to mention that NG is also starting a kickstarter program so that they can hire additional Devs. I'm pretty excited about that and think things will really start moving in the next few months.
