GW2 Account hacked...

CeromusCeromus Member UncommonPosts: 114

My gw2 account was hacked. I do not use the password for my gw2 account for websites or anything like that. They changed my email address with guildwars2 and I got the email notification that its been changed. Whats interesting is that I also had originally signed up for gw2 with a prepurchase that eventually I got refunded and the account key disabled. This first account that I prepurchased with I have not used that email address for any forum or any website. I had used it for an extra world of warcraft account many years ago. Just the other day I got an email from blizzard stating my account with that email address had been disabled due to suspecious activity. This account was so old it took me a while to even remember I use to have an account associated to that email address.

So some how someone got 2 accounts with different email addresses that were registered with gw2. Emails I dont use for websites and one of which I havent used for anything but gw2 and a really old wow account. Password is also not used for any websites.

I have not fallen for any kind of phishing scam and I have not been infected by any trojan or anything like that. I can only assume that either gw2 logins were compromised or blizzards were compromised.

99% of emails from Blizzard stating your account is involved in suspicious activity are not from Blizzard .. but from phishing sites .

Can you post a copy of the notification? Scrutiny is needed to make sure that this "notification" isn't some kind of phishing attempt itself. Oh, and DON't CLICK THE LINK if there is one yet.

and 100% of those would never fool me as I can easily just verify the headers.....also that particular email address the one that was for the blizzard account and initial preorder has never received a fake blizzard email as no one has that email address.

I can not login to gw2, I know the email has been changed. I also know the bnet account has been blocked as it can not be logged into either as it notifies me its been blocked.

Everyone got the blizzard mail, they had a security incident a while back. So if you had an account, you would have gotten one legit email, which didn't contain any obviously fake links pointing to domains that clearly have nothing to do with either Blizzard or World of Warcraft.

As for GW2, people have speculated that its support site has been compromised. It is a rather shady third party site and the way it is setup (I build systems like this myself for a living) tells me they are not the best in the business.
