Travian is a fun "casual player" based game.  ERepublik is another.  Granted they are not 3D hack-and-slash style games, but if you're looking for a vibrant community, either of those games are good choices.

Best game imo for casual players is Stronghold Kingdoms.

Hell you can even watch movie or Game of Thrones while playing the game.

And if you wanted to do those things, why would you be playing a game in the first place?  A game that's so boring, they have to distract you with other pointless things.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more

Because the OP mentioned "casual with only 30 mins spare time?" which means he's got other chores to do or kids to look after?

Did you even read what criteria the OP is even looking for first? Or you are just commenting for the sake of commenting?

    OP

You're pretty much explaining GW2. Events can be spotty at times but I was able to get two done and be out 15 minutes later before I went to work one morning. It seemed like you had already tried it though so if that's the case never mind lol. The game does not end at 80 and being "backwards compatible" it could last you a long time.

Good luck on your quest though. It can be hard to find short duration but challenging and meaningful play with quality social interactions from an MMO. Usually something has to give.

True, but for someone with so little free time, why would he want to do other things to distract him from playing the game?  You made it sound like "this game is so dull and uninteresting, you can go do these other things while you're playing."

The whole point is to play a game, not watch TV, right?

I guess that means there are no long-term single player games, huh?

The only two things I can think to recommend are Ryzom since they are fixing to condense down to one server and start over, or the new F2P version of Vangaurd: Saga of Heroes.  I have played a little of both.  I have read accounts of guilds working on completing all the content in Vangaurd and it taking two whole years to complete.  It can be a little buggy, but it has a lot to offer.

Besides the ones I already mentioned, I guess not?

....not be completely honest, I'm not even sure why you are harping on the single player games thing..

Maybe you can bring me back up to speed on what my OP had to do with single player games.

    haha mind reader...

I tried Ryzom, and to be honest I couldn't make heads or tails of it.. I played for about 4 evenings and was still wondering around lost and bored. So I kinda gave up..

...But I just DL'd Vangaurd again (tried in 2 or 3 years ago) and its improved alot, I would actually say there are more people on now then there was 2 years ago..

You're the one who mentioned SP games that could be played long-term.  Other than, say, Skyrim, which is the exception to the rule, the vast majority of SP games are done and gone in 1-2 weeks maximum, that's why most people who want to play SP turn to MMOs because they provide a massive amount of content and relatively quick updates.  There's always something to do, which cannot be said in the SP marketplace.  There's lots of people out there, myself included, who would never bother with MMOs anymore if we could just get a steady stream of high-quality, long-lasting SP games.

Looking back at the post, the SP games were brought up by Nariusseldon and was talking about how 2-4 months was long for a SP game..

And honestly its like compairing apples and oranges, So how about we ONLY talk about SP RPG's.... in which case my point is still valid.

And Skyrim is not the exeption, which show how little you know about SP RPG's, I know people we still play some of the original FF games, how about Oblivion? how about Morrowind? Halflife 2?

years of use out of those games..

Anyways but this has gotten way off topic...

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    My original point:

Casuals don't realy care how long a game takes to finish. New MMO's are short because people are lazy.

With newer MMO's you should get alot more then a couple of months out of it for the price + subscription.

There are of course players who would play some SP games for a long time (like to unlock every secret, and try every little thing) but that is probably not the norm.

That is not true, at least for THIS casual. Of course i care about how long a game take to finish. If it takes too long, i won't have time for the next game, do I? SP games shouldn't be too long. When they are long, invariably there is a lot of repetition.

Lazy? You make playing sound like work. If it is not fun, i am not playing. And it is not like we are avoiding playing (i.e. lazy). However, i do want to move on and play other games to get a new experience.

If i play F2P MMO, there is no price + sub, so your second point is moot. There are so MANY MMOs .. just wait a bit and new MMOs will become F2P anyway.
