There has certainly been an increase in grumpyness and negativity across all game related forums in recent years. This is especially true where MMORPGs are concerned.
Pretty much every forum is full of " is going to be terrible because..."
This is why I hardly ever post on gaming forums anymore. I prefer to judge the game in person rather than rely on the opinion of someone that has only played MMOs for a couple of years and is basing their entire post on speculation and comparing everything to WOW which I have never played (pretty much everything else though).
I don't agree with you! You can say that game "is going to be terrible because..."
After you have played MMOs for a few years, you can look at a trailer of gameplay and tell with certainty how it will play from beginning to end.
This is due to 'pattern recogniton' and realising that most games copy bits of each other.
lol you guys are completely proving the OPs point. There is no post on this site anymore that goes un trolled. Good bad or otherwise. Its because mmo gamers are douches.
Just a little Rant but seriously what has become of us, the MMO community, all i see here on this site and many others is whining, complaining, Bickering, Childishness and downright disrespect for people in general.
I am bringning this up because of all the hate there is towards one another and towards the companies that make the games that we play, i see people complaining about how stuff should be better in GW2 yet the game is free to play, what more do you people seriously want?? the Developers owe you guys nothing, why should they justify themselves for you? and the counltess other threads about how this will fail or how long till you think it will fail or whine, whine, whine.
Not that anyone would care but it is not the state of MMO's that is turning me of the Genre but the brat like childish people who are plaguing what was once a great place to enjoy a game and socialize.
I'm sure i will get flamed for this but then again it just proves my point right?
IMO i think alot of us need to pull our heads out of our asses and be greatful for what we get, Especially if it is Free.
The same thing that's happened to every internet based community. People started to see the words "I disagree" as "Your're WRONG", and feel an argument is something simply to be won rather than a sharing of ideas in order to gain new understanding. Every so called conversation just becomes a narcissistic battle of one, where no other points of view need apply. And sorry to say it, but your own post where you are supposedly asking a question and "seeking clarity" but is really just a blanket insult of those whoes ideas you do not agree with, is a text book example of this bad behavior.

Free? Last I checked GW2 cost around $59.99 to play.
Oh yes, and there's this cash shop which while not mandatory, seems to contain items that would be strongly desireable by the average player, such as extra bag space, an even has kick arse armor/weapons one might want to get for around $200.00 for the full set.
Where do people come up with this nonsense?
The only armor offered on the BLTC are cosmetic sets, that cost 500-750 gems for the full set. That's about six bucks. There are no weapons for sale.

lol, oh well.
looking at these posts I'll say this.
there are alot of good people in the MMO industry in both previous and the current generation.
The unfortuante issue is that the current community trend, particularlly on this website, glorifies broad sweeping criticisms and holier than thou pessimistic behavior.- nothing wrong with not liking something, but it gets pretty convoluted when mmo veterans with 10 years of experience brood on this website with a chip on their shoulder, hold grudges not for the game itself, but for the consumers that like said game that they hate, all the while waiting for their "mecca" game to arrive. one would wonder if they would use their omnipotent wisdom to take things in face value.
anyway, im off to play games that other people love to hate, everyone else, enjoy spell checking my post.
Originally posted by Xasapis Not only GW2 is not free (has a rather hefty purchase price), they are pushing aggressively but subtly towards players buying gems with RL cash. I guess it was to be expected since gem purchases dropped 25% compared to previous week. GW2 is certainly an interesting case study on how to milk the ingame community with people not only not protesting, but on the contrary, defending such practices.
Funny because you can actually buy gems with in game gold......
To the OP, sounds like people in general, not just the mmo community, but people in general these days are quick to shit in their mouths before blowing kisses.

Most people avoided the actual point of the post but i'll get on with it.
Most MMO Communities are awfull, specially in this day and age where manners are seen as being an easy target to troll.
MMOers hate other MMOers, this is just a given, people will public harass and try on purpose to destroy other peoples fun.
It's alot of different factors that lead to this, but overall is just that people are ruder in this day and age, and it's "cool" to be so.
I criticise because I care about MMORPGs. It's frustrating to see devs "so near yet so far".
