If you’re not convinced that this is the ARPG for you, or if you’re not convinced by ARPGs at all, you could always try the demo and see if your fancy is tickled. I’m not entirely sure how much content the demo includes but it shouldn’t take long to decide if the rest of the game is something you’re willing to invest in. Download it from Runic or on Steam.

I don't really get the popularity of these gear grind based games...

And the fact that they are played by a lot of folks that then complain about 'grinding' in an MMORPG makes me smile :)

Far more excited for this tbh... http://baldursgate.com/

A gear grinding game and an action based loot game arn't the same thing. That's why D3 hasn't been well recieved by this audience, because they made it into a grind like an MMO. Loot is thrown at you like candy in ARPGs and Borderlands. I wouldn't consider it grind and even if you do the action combat makes it seem much less like grinding because generally it's just more fun.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I played D2 and Torchlight 1 and they, to me, felt like exactly the same thing. They both felt just.. pointless to me :/

To each his own though, I don't mean to critichise what people enjoy, and I guess the bottom line is anything you don't enjoy = 'grind'.

I can understand that opinion. I grew up with hack and slash RPGs though so for a lot of us it's nostalgia. Diablo 1 was the greatest game in the world when it came out!(for many of us at least) the genre used to be a lot bigger, so seeing some new ones coming out now gets a lot of us excited.

Torchlight 2 actually hits a sweet spot I think, the price point is so painless I can buy it and play it casually without feeling like I need a huge return on my investment. I'm sure i will get a good amount of playtime but the price makes it a great side game.
