The game is currently quite succesfull, makes me wonder how many will join as they realise that the game is quite fun and casuall in nature.
If the true nature of the game becomes obvious, and the negatives proclaimed by the powergamers get treated with a game of salt, the game could actually become quite succesfull in the christmass shoppingperiode ahead of us.
After all cassuals are never the early addapters, but they are a huge majorrity of the gaming crowd

What exactly do you like ? Killing 20 different monsters on one freaking big world ? Conquer as many pts as you can get during the day so the ones that play on different time zone on opposite server log on on their prime time and get your keeps while you sleep? What else do you like ? 3 armorsets to choose from ?
Come on, the game is great FOR A F2P but it wont live if it will get a sub. The game will be better when they will add new content and more things to do.
I dont have a reason to play Gw2, ive capped my stats in 6 weeks and at the end of 2nd month, after 8 weeks ive had 2.5k kills in WvW, lvl 10 in sPvP and close to 80% on world.

So, question...
Why are those number rounded? If they were legit actual accounts created they should be able to give you an exact number. IE: 5,803,158. Looks like they're just estimates? Which makes you wonder how they cannot produce a report that gives an exact count.
Honestly, I don't trust ANY population or success counts from any game that doesn't report exact numbers. You know damn well that they can give you an exact number of players active on a server at any given time. So why they refuse to report those is beyond me. This "Low, Medium, HIgh" BS is just lies to the customer.
This isn't just a GW2 thing, WoW doesn't report actual numbers either. And WoW doesn't have anything to hide really so im not sure why they hide?

looking back at 2 years of rounded financial quarters looks odd but i havent read the financial report in depth

Where did you get this notion? they announced 2.2 million sales after about 2 weeks since then nothing, not a peep, its had its day in the limelight those first few weeks were as good as it gets I'm afraid.
Well it is still in the top 10 for PC games for most sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Game.... the highest out of any MMO, and World of Warcrafts expansion is nowhere to be seen. So obviously it is still growing, dispite what all you naysayers would like to think.
You think a company that PR'd the crap out of their game what not make a major press release about hiting 3 million or more sales? Wasn't the initial press release 2.2 million and rising?
This doom and gloom thread was brought to you by Chin Up the new ultra high caffeine soft drink for gamers who just need that boost of happiness after a long forum session.

I like GW2, but it needs something more than legendaries to work towards.. I would actually not mind a small gear threadmill in this game. Exotic gear is way too easy to obtain.
In GW2 I actually enjoy the way to 80 more than being 80. Theres nothing worth doing at level towards character progression except legendary weapons.
I got the armor skins I want and when there is nothing else than a redicilous RNG/farm for a legendary I just cant be bothered going for it.
with the way they scale everything it might become a problem in that they would have to adjust the dungeons once again since there are people in exotics who find it easy already on explore mode.
Not to mention that legendaries change the look of every ability your character has. That's the only thing that makes them special their stats aren't higher then exotics. I've suggested they add a number of earnable rewards similar to the Priest Quest level spells and the Level 9 spells of Wizards of ADnD's series that had the Tomb of Magic in it. but for all professions so one wouldn't spend points on it but had to endure some trial to earn this knowledge from some master in the world or series of masters. That to me would be fun. no currency just one trial per ability and you had to do that particular trial for that ability appropriate to the power of the ability earned.

I agree OP it is a huge success and I have to laugh at the people who say otherwise because every time i login unless it's 3 AM server time, the number of times they push me into overflow in any number of zones is at least 65 75% of my daily gameplay.
I think the forums here have become quite like that channel that's banned in Canada, where it's the only place you'll hear nonsensical reports about things that no one else is reporting, like the world of Tyria is dying, the game is coming to an end, and no one can stop it from being fail, blah blah blah. makes me wonder about the people who are posting these things, don't they have a game they like to play or is this their game?
If anything, they should be focusing their sights on the fact that Disney, DISNEY, just bought lucaseverything for 4.+ billion. why doesn't that get more attention?

I agree that once you hit 80 there isn't all that much to really keep you going. You can grind karma for the karma gear, or grind gold for the cultural gear or to buy gems for cosmetic stuff or get some additional slots, or grind dungeons for this or that gear, but the question really is why. Why do all that? Just to be better in WvW?
Why sPvP, other than because it's mindless fun?
Why level an alt when you need to do World Completion on a single character and that kind of takes away quite a bit of the fun of creating an alt? All you have to look forward to after 100% WC is different personal stories since you already grinded out all the hearts and skill challenges, saw all the vistas and points of interest. I think that's a bad call. There is room for improvement in the longevity department.
They're working on the sPvP, but a few simple changes could have made this game more enjoyable for a longer period of time. They should be putting even more thought into this.
Never discount fun.
I did so many things in Asherons Call, WoW or DAoC because they were fun. If you need shiny pixels or progression to keep you entertained then me thinks MMO's is the wrong gaming format for people to do. Players would be more inclined to play single player games for instant gratification.
I miss the days of old school MMO's where people did things for others, or did things because their guild did it, or did things cause of the community and social aspect of it. I guess WoW really did change the landscape of MMO, and not for the better I might add!
+1 to you.
((My 42nd post. Apparently this thread was The Answer))
I'm having a ton of fun in the game, and looking forward to more fun as time goes on. Maybe because I didn't race through to 80 as fast as I could and because I don't play every single day for hours on end. Either way, mass fun = huge success for me.
Another point to show the success of the game: ArenaNet is currently hiring. Whether they are expanding their employee base or just keeping that base full really doesn't matter. The fact they are not laying off anyone certainly shows the game is successful, especially in their eyes.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Those numbers mean little as far as concurrent users. I am sure if you took the number of vanilla WoW boxes that sold it would be some unbelievable number. What the numbers do show is a large quantity of box sales which is what ANet cares about. I am pretty sure that ANET / NCSOFT aren't really concerned with how many people stay around after a period of time. I think their game design shows that. It is meant to be fun while it lasts. When it is over, they want you to buy new content.
