Dont be fooled by the full notice on the server status screen. It simply means the server is full, not active players, but full of accounts created. If the servers were full as stated, there may be a log in que, and we would get more notices that we could leave the overflow server. I havent gotten any of this, even though my server is full. Also, there is no longer a queue to enter the eternal battlegrounds, which is a nice, but goes to show that the server pops are down. Sorry, but its the truth.
It is surprising how many people are totally missing the OP's point, however there hasn't been a theme park game made that hasn't fallen prey to this particular issue.
About the only way to fix it is to figure out a way to get an influx of new players, I'd say the holidays will bring another round along with folks who may reroll an alt when they have some extra free time to play.
We are not missing his point. The point is that he has no point. There is no shortage of players in lower level zones, period. The game has its issues but this is definitely not one of them. He's just talking out of his former mmo experience while it is quite clear he's not actually playing the game because what he presents as "fact" can be readily disproved by simply logging in for 5 minutes.
While GW2 might have a real problem "what to do in higher level zones?" it does not suffer from the old "player population in lower levels." People who claim that are simply ignorant and posing as players for whatever reason. The OP just wanted to make a cheap stab at GW2 and claimed a problem that seemed safe to him - the one that is present in every themepark to date. Well he made a big mistake, because that is one of the things GW2 actually managed to fix.
Posts like these are as bad as players claiming all lower zones are deserted based on their own server.. Why do you guys always deal in extreme? your server or OP's server does not equal to entire populaition. Sorry but both of your server ain't that special.
Situation differ from server to server. Like i said on mine it is very top heavy and lower zones don't have that many players in it. Does that mean i should start harping that you have no point, because i saw on my server that lower zones are empty. period. So it must be true fo all the servers on EU / US?

That is really silly.
Of course it varies server by server. Also by playtime. Last night on my server in a level 20ish zone the area was fairly populated with people. Was in a cave by myself when a handful of othe people came in so we decided to take down this champion spider. Started a flame legion event by myself and finished with about 10 people in which we went into a flame legion portal that had a series of puzzles to solve...which all of us strangers were working together to finish.
I am noticing the mid ranged zones are thinned out and are more on the vacant side.but what are server merges going to do when A) you can just merge to a server yourself with a transfer and everyone is 80 or in the Lowbie zones on alts?
What is this? Say something enough times and hope that people will actually start to believe it? Anyone who plays the game will know that the exact opposite of what the OP says is closer to the truth.
Instant queues for Eternal battle Grounds again today on Jade Quarry. Queues used to be 2-4 hours for EB

High level players keep zerging the higher level zones, while the lower level zones are just as much fun ... Tough at prime time every zone has more then enough people around to do those boss events.
When start people understanding that lower level zones can still give good loot when you´re max level.
*AND* you can get as much karma doing the events there because they're faster and lower risk. Random Orr DE results in 375 karma (no bonuses or boosters) and many of the Orr DE's take quite a few people to complete and around 15-20 minutes. By comparison, I get 278 karma from lower level DE's and many of them are over in mere minutes and can be solo'd.
So basically, I end up doing more events at a faster pace and the end result is no real net loss in karma.
Dude, it's 6:30PMish (US Central Time), Tuesday, November 6th. Twelve of twenty-four servers are FULL. The other twelve are "High."
This isn't the first week where the population was highly compressed in various areas. Now the only compression is in Arah and the various cities with the rest of the population spread all over the place.
Originally posted by Tokken It's basically a solo game anyway, so who cares... but a server merge would be good only to have other players to play with.
That's a good idea. Then we would all be in overflow again all the time. That would give you people something to rant and snark about.
overflow works for me. :-) It's good to have actual full servers instead of low pop servers.

They're not empty. It's 1:41AM GMT right now and I did a brief tour of my server (Aurora Glade) and there are plenty of people in the lower zones.
Further, the title is misleading and the OP brought it on himself by trying to be sensationalist and telling us that something normal is somehow a 'problem.'
Zones are too big the 1-17 people are always talking I think making a different zone for each race was a mistake they should of mixed two races in one zone or had less races.
Being you don't have to pay for this game people are not going to make if a lifestyle it's going to be casual like I don't have to play if I don't want to casual cause it's free.
See with a game like Dark Souls you have alot of people but it's in a condenced area.
some people seem to just comment anything but nothing about my original post....
i wasnt talking about PvP/ WvW , i said the PvE maps are mostly empty and that hasnt changed since yesterday and it wont change tomorrow.
why some people here just talk about PvP maps is a mystery to me.....
and again a FULL SERVER on the server table doesnt mean that this server has reached its maximum players online capacity it also counts offline players.
p.s 2-3 players per huge map do count as emtpy....

Maybe it's just a mentality thing that comes with assigning levels to zones. Lower Level = obsolete for roughly every other MMO in existence, and hell, that's still the case for almost every RPG that involves leveling in some form.
There is, of course, also the possiblity that there are people who don't really understand the point of GW2' downscaling system, and don't realize that the content remains relevant to some degree and drops loot on your current level, not only on the level of the zone it came from. The result is that a lot of people just go lump themselves in the higher level zones.
yeah I wonder why I'm almost sent to the frigging overflow if the servers are dying. sometimes I wish they were so I would for one be on a proper channel
Perhaps a reverse overflow type system could be put in place. Where in lower level zones people from multiple servers are all placed together so that the lower level zones are not so empty feeling. The technology is already there, while this wouldn't be easy, I could see it being doable.

He is right tho. I logged in yesterday evening since a long time and pretty much all lower level zones are dead!
I was questing for about an hour or so, before I got totally bored again.... there was not a single player around. :-(
So it seems the game has already become top heavy and no new players joining anymore.
I'm actually playing several alts, among which a little thief (human) and little engineer (asura), and each time I log them to play in low (15-) areas, I meet a lot of people at the events.

I have found out that events are best played with 3 players.
At release i thought it sucked donkeyballs doing an escort quest with 25 other people making the event feel ... quite off ....
Now it's allot better with arround 2/5 people helping you out.
So personally i think it's awesome
Maybe GW2 would be better if it were less populated. It feels like your a nobody in a nobody world. No dependance on anyone, everything is automatic. I was out of town for a few weeks. When I came home I found that I could not log on to the game. My Necro is a level 53 and as much as I like it I have no abalities to look fwd too on top of no community.
For now I'm playing on a Vanilla WoW server and loving the community all over again. First time I feel like I'm playing an mmo in a long long time

People are leaving for the TSW raid, that was supposed to be out like 1½ months ago.

I can see that. GW2 is definitely styled to appeal to the Xbox / console crowd.

oh FFS I was wrong about the raid!!!! That's why Ragnar got demoted! I called him up and said "This is not good."
