Firstly, hi I am new to MMORPG.com and as a UO vet, I am very much looking forward to an MMO where your actions actually have a consequence instead of MMO's that like to carebear there player base.
First question:
1) While I gather the mean empthasis is on PvP, well it still have a good PvE game style?
2) How does the mount system work? Bought? Tamed? Both?
3) I know there are moongate located throughout the wilderness (the thing I adored about UO - rewarded exploration), is there stuff like recalling from UO within DF?
4) I know there is no crafting cap, is there a skill cap for combat skills?
Never played the original DF, but I have quite a lot of hope riding on this particular title. Thanks for your time in advance

I'll answer based on my experience with DF1.0 and not with what they plan for 2.0 (because we don't really know all that much about it).
For the PvE. I'd put the PvE as slightly better than the average MMORPG, being that the monster AI are slightly superior in that they won't stand around waiting to be hit like sandbags as they do in other MMORPGs, but the AI is still lacking in complexity so they aren't all that much different other than the added difficulty of having to aim to hit with your skills. Still, it's better than the average MMORPG.
As for Mounts. In DF1.0, mounts are not tamed (they do not even exist in fact). To create a mount, you must harvest herb nodes until you drop a Steedgrass. Using the taming skill and a whistle, you will then create a mount available to your race (1 per race) or if your skills are high enough you can craft a Battlehorn or a Blue Tail (available to all races ) at a cost of more steedgrass and additional materials. This will in turn create a "Figurine" that can be found in your inventory and summoned by double-clicking on it (or using a key if hotkey'd). Mounts can be killed meaning that you will not be able to recover a figurine when it dies (mounts can be unsummoned to return as figurine in your inventory).
Moongates. Unless they were added in 2011, I don't recall there being Moongates (or similar system) in DarkFall. There are however Teleport Chambers available to Clan Cities in DF1.0 (however I do recall reading that they "might" be removed for 2.0, although I'm really not sure about this so take it for what it's worth - nothing). There is however a Recall skill to recall to the your last Bindstone. There is also a House Recall if you have a house. You may also mark Runes (mob loot) to a specific location and use the rune to teleport there (consumed after use). Then there are Teleport Nexus where a destroyable Entry and Exit nexus must be placed and work as place-able teleport stations.
There was no skill cap in DF1.0 for both Crafting and Combat-related skills. DFUW will limit players based on the role they choose (as well as armor?) but I assume that everything can still be maxed but skills will be lock/unlocked based on the role you select.
So basically, if you mark a rune to a hotspot, everytime you use it, you will have to mark another one? On the teleport nexus thing, I don't know if you played UO, but it sounds like they are like the moongate spell from UO, except permanent (unless the get destroyed?) Sorry for constantly referring back to UO, it's just the easiest way for me to try and understand the mechanics of the game :P
Yes, for runes you'd have to mark new ones everytime.
As for Teleport Nexus, I can't answer that. They are found as rare random loot from Chaos Chests (chest that appears randomly throughout the world) and I've never had to use one of those so I can't say how similar or different they are from gate spell in UO.
I actually thought PvE was the best part of DF.
You can buy mounts from other player crafters or "craft" your own. Or just buy one from a non player crafter that bought or looted one from another player.
There is no skill cap but they have now added specializations the limit other areas when choosen.
the nexus's were destructable, lasted a certain amount of time and only lasted for X amount of teleports (10?). you needed to place an entrance and a exit, which are separate rare items.
they were pretty awesome if you could find good places to hide them, so other people didn't use them or destroy.
My blog:
Welcome to MMORPG.com. Home to more doom threads you could ever possibly imagine.
1) Darkfall's PvE style is actually quite fun. The AI are strong and smart, more interactive than most games AI. UW will have epic world bosses that were said to be well worth killing. Dungeons are always fun for clan events and such.
2) Everyone will be able to craft a mount. You can then sell that mount if you choose. None purchased from NPC's, at least there wasn't in DF:1.
3) I think there is a bindstone recall still present in UW.
4) There will be different schools you can master. You can eventually master all of them, but can only have one school's (plus some extra from another school, primary and secondary schools) abilities active at one time. That's basically the only limit.
