I'm and old school pvper from original eq and daoc (andred & mordred), and when I stumped on this game a few days ago I almost sh&t my pants. I really wanna play this game, but I just can't justify purchasing a new computer at this time.
Thanks

By the devs not some random site that they submitted to steam:
System Requirements
Windows XP Service Pack 3, 32bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 + or
AMD Phenom II X2 +
4GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600 + or
AMD or ATI 4850 +
DirectX Sound Card
12GB Free Space
SNIP
I saw that someplace else also. I'm guessing an E6850 is faster than a
T7700? I wouldn't know. It seems I make it except I'm a GB short on RAM. The only issue is I don't know how you can have 4 GBs of RAM with Windows XP..... I have 4 GBs of RAM and it only registers 3, because Windows XP is capped at 3 BG of RAM as far as I know.
Aside from that, I was able to run GW2 without a problem.
Clock speed of a E6850 is at 3.00 Ghz which is a little higher than what you have (2.4Ghz). It's still a little borderline. My system spec is about the same as their requirements (but with a better graphic card) and it runs "alright", but my FPS will drop between 10-30 FPS during large scale battles.
As far as the RAM goes, does your PC only detect exactly 3 GB of RAM or does it detect higher than that (3.25 GB for example). Because Windows XP does support 4 GB RAM (it's the maximum for XP) but reserves a certain amount for the system, making it seem like you have less RAM than you actually do. So you most likely have 4 (working) GB of RAM.
You should be able to play the game in the newb area. I suggest getting a new rig. Build it and be done with it. It is not that much money really. Just don't go out for a month and don't buy stupid useless crap. Also note to yourself, if you are asking "Can I run this?" it is likely you cannotrun it well enough to really play the game. People who run the game with minimum specs have no idea what they are missing, just because it works doesn't means you can play the game. Oh and btw your computer is not going to do very well for DF: UW.
Make sure you build your own computer, and if you don't think you can look it up on youtube, it is so easy a middle aged mother with no gaming experience can do it.
Note: Do not buy a computer from from a department store they are not gaming computers, you can buy one in pieces and have it be 10x the one you can buy in a store and for half the price. Newegg is your friend, just research and make sure you get the right pieces for what you are buying.

In the first game you would get a memory error and crash after about 5-6 hours of gameplay or during large sieges if you had less than 4gb of ram and/or ran on a 32-bit OS.
Hopefully since the new game has been optimized for multi core processors and improved in other ways, this shouldn't be an issue any longer but who knows.
Umm... Its a laptop!!! What is there to reuse?
Typical, People giving hardware advice whom know nothing about it. You cant compare clock cycles between differing architectures or mobile vs desktop GPUS based on numbering.
You don't recycle computers, just paper and plastic. I heard they used to recycle condoms. Meh, sounds like to much work, who wants to wash it out when you finish, I am usually lazy by then.
Edit: You might also want to replace your hardrive, it is not a good idea to reuse lol.

Rather hard to miss the T7700 or 8600M
Its definitely viable, but at a premium. Plus, there's the whole mobility thing as lugging around my 600T case and monitor ISNT viable.
