Activities in game?

Just recently got turned onto this game.  And from the live streams I've watched it looks like it could really be a big sleeper hit.  (assuming they iron out the issues like localization)  But one thing that I still don't really understand is what type of activities do you do on a regular basis to progress in the game?

I know it has PvP & sandbox elements such as

  • Building structures
  • FFA full loot pvp
  • Crafting & harvesting

But I've seen a few people say that you don't progress through fighting mobs for the most part.  So how do you progress, gain exp, and thus level your skills?  Is it mostly quest based?

Just trying to get an idea of how I would spend the majority of my time while in this game.

I played the first closed beta.  Basically you advance passively by gaining internal knowledge and inner peace.  This is increased based on where you are are when you are doing various activities.  It also can be done in huge groups and what happens is you all take turns hitting a sequence of keys (kind of like ddr) which makes you do a sort of martial arts training manuveur (think of it as demonstrating a martial art like an actual art form).  Its somewhat complex.  I didn't fully grasp it because I only had a couple hours to play because of work but it is definitely on my radar.

Hmm so the only way to advance is through a group activity that is similar to dance dance revolution with a keyboard?
