Why so mad about the delay?

Abuz0rAbuz0r Member UncommonPosts: 550

Why are so many people upset that they delayed the release of the game.

1) You haven't paid any money for anything yet.

2) If they release the game before it's ready, you'll compare it to Age of Conans buggy release.

3) If the classes are imbalanced you'll complain about that.

4) If the game won't load on certain hardware get ups people will call AV scammers.

5) If there are exploits because of a lack of beta testing, people will hate AV forever.

Unlike most of the people I've seen comments by, I took the time to read the explanation made by AV.

I run my own company and when I make a decision like this it is very painful.  Keep in mind 1 thing, AV owes you nothing, you don't own share in their company, you haven't given them your money for this product yet.  Just because you WANT the game NOW doesn't mean they can add extra hours in the day and add extra days in the week to make sure the game gets out in the amount of time they want it to.

AV is in business to please people, keep subs, and make money.  Players are in the business to be entertained, PvP and pay money for the time they have fun.  All the crying I've seen about this delay in release sounds like the same people who call and yell at me if UPS delivers their package a day late.  Get a life already.

OKOK I'm tryint to understand peoples anger.  Do you honestly think that AV is sitting on the game saying "LOL let's delay it and see them get mad LOLLOL!OL!OL!OL! We aren't making any money but they're mad this is great!!!"

  Do you honestly think that?

Put on your patient hat, and hope for the best product, and find something else to do while you wait.

People are not all that mad about the delay. People are mad because of the time and way they were told. Aventurine waited until pretty much launch day to say "we will give you beta in 6 days and launch eventually".

This game will be about as relevant in the MMO industry as the first versions was, so I don't think it matters much either way.

I say their package will be delivered on 12/23.  Then UPS loads it on the wrong truck, and doesn't deliver it until the 26th.  Am I a liar?  Trust me I'm the guy who gets yelled at.

You're a liar if you send them a statement the day before it is supposed to arrive saying "Oh... we haven't even put it in the packaging yet." You keep doing that and believe it or not your company is going to go under. The problem is that it was supposed to be out today, they delay it, and then tell us they don't even have a build for beta yet. it is a lie in the sense that you delayed the truth until the last possible minute.

I'd rather get a notice a week before instead of the day of. Saying "We don't have a build yet for beta." is saying "Oh... we've known for week that it won't come out today.... but fuck you."

bro they dont even have a product

  • Abuz0rAbuz0r Member UncommonPosts: 550

See you guys just don't get it.  Your justification is that AV owes something to you.  Like they OWE it to you to give you a product on 12/12/12.  You aren't their customer yet, they haven't accepted your money.

Until you've given them your money you have no justification.

To the arguments above.  If someone pays me for a product and I fail to ship it, they deserve to yell at me.  If I tell a person that I will ship them something on 12/12/12 and they can pay for it after they get it, and I fail to ship it, maybe they won't buy from me anymore, but they have no right to yell at me, as they've paid me nothing.

Exactly what you stated here... i'm not mad that there is a delay, infact i'd rather there would be a delay if the game isn't prepared, it's AVs general lack of communication that is frustrating. And for the record i bought and played DF for just over 2 years, so yes i did contribute to AV. All they need to do is stop lying, say they're launching it in january, and there ya go.

oh and as someone who has played DF for a while.

Of course they don't owe us anything.  We don't owe them anything either though, so it's a two-way street.  I'd much rather have people vocalize their disapproval of how AV handled the issue rather than just sit back and take it in the rear without complaint.  The fact that they don't owe us anything means nothing when it's the developer's bottom line at stake.  If they see enough people complaining, they might just start to act like a professional developer.  If no one complains, they'll just keep acting like amateurs.

So feel free to defend them.

They didn't release the info  on purpose. that much is clear considering that they don't even have a Beta Build yet and it is possibly coming out next Monday. They don't owe me money, but they owe me a better time frame. I'm thinking about investing my money in to their game, I have talked about it amongst my friends, and I have spent time looking in to it. The veyr elast they could have done is "12/12/12 launch date is not happening. We are sorry about the delay and will bring further information later." I give them my respect by advertising them among my group, my guild, and putting in time to look in to the game and so do MANY other people. We don't deserve their respect or the effort of 2 sentences?

I've been talking to a bunch of my clannies, and I, for one, am not in the least bit upset or surprised.  I expect AV to delay a few times, and am ok with the beta thing.  I don't expect to get into the beta right away if there are limitations on beta players, and I'm ok with that.  I'll play the game eventually.
  • jdnewelljdnewell Member UncommonPosts: 2,237

Just reading your posts and general ideas of how a company should have handled something like this makes me doubt you run your own business.

Maybe they dont " owe" anyone anything. But any business should at least communicate with their existing and potential customers , especially about a product that will be delayed. Waiting until the day before launch to tell people there is a delay - Again- and then not even having a beta client ready.... Which means they knew the game was not ready weeks ago, is just poor business any way you cut it.

Maybe you should try the " We dont owe you shit" approach to your supposed company and see how that works for ya.

Flash back to what Darkfall's original release was like. Delay, silence, crap communication.

I liked it when people called Tasos a liar back then.
