2.20 NOK per share. No clue with respect to the reaction of the offer.
No info with respect to what they wish to do with the various IPs if it is accepted.

That's more than the stock is currently worth, so I would expect they will take the deal. This kind of worries me with their B2P transition. EA made some really horrible choices with SWToR, while Funcom actually made some decent choices with TSW. I'd hate to see Funcom's good decisions (late as they are) go to waste.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Ea have made a terrible mess of every single mmo they have been Involved in
Yeah, I know. I just focus on the game itself, not the company -- it seems to me like EA messes up when they are trying to "fix" things. All I'm saying is there's not a lot to "fix" with TSW, except perhaps the business model, and if they helped with this decision, well they did a pretty good job.
EDIT: And actually, if EA can help with budget, Funcom may actually get some decent marketing for a change!
So...you are the one that backs the shit that EA makes
This mess in the market is your fault, shameful display, you should be ashamed and commit seppuku
Actually I don't pay much attention to EA (or any company) at all. I just play the games I like.
Originally posted by ShakyMo Bully Dreamworld engine is pretty good (well now with tsw it is, was rubbish with aoc) But there are better engines out there especially forgelight (planetside 2 / EQ next)
You wont get an argument out of me about the forgelight engine. The DreamWorld engine is one of the best on the market though.
There is nothing to comment much, he thinks a dx9 engine which scales down to display a handfull of people at once (because it can't handle all the people it would then have on screen) crashes constantly because it's bad optimized and runns heavly on CPU utiliization is superior to a DX11 Tesselation CPU & GPU balanced engine which shows as many people on screen as his ps2 while beeing technical on top of the list next to cryengine.

Didn't you support EA as well by buying Mass Effect 3?
I have not bought ME3 o.o

Sky You see way way way more people on screen with forgelight than Dreamworld.
Sure Dreamworld has all these funky features (for the half of the player base with nvidia cards) But please dont make an idiot of yourself by saying it handles massive better than planetside 2. Planetside 2 laughs at your tiny fusang map and its 150 player cap. Hell planetside 2 laughs at gw2 and its WvW map sizes / player cap / player POP up out of nowhere.
I don't think Dreamworld is a bad engine, you look at its graphic fidelity and it does handle crowds better than and roughly the sake as the graphicly inferior swtor and wow respectively.
And yes it looks better than planetside, its one of the few mmo engines that looks on a par with single player engines.
But get back to me when it has zones the size of planetsides continents (about 10 times the size of a tsw / gw2 zone) and can handle 2000 players at a time in fusang before you claim its better at doing the massive.
Both engines are impressive but at different things. Forgelight impresses me more though as its an engine that puts the MM back into MMO
While conspiracies are very much a part of The Secret World, this one rumor is not true. So no, EA has not purchased Funcom.
Okay, did a little digging (aka emailing my friend who works in Quebec for Funcom):
#1: B2P was a MAJOR fight: Funcom wanted it to be F2P but EA's contract made it impossible. As in, they were not allowed to offer the distribution of the client for free without EA's approval. EA said no, and EA has sole distribution rights for 18 months. This is why you have B2P. It has NOTHING to do with anything else or any grand strategy.
#2: Read what he said. "EA has not purchased Funcom". Absolutely correct. They have not purchased Funcom...YET. It is currently an offer that is being contemplated by the BoD and hence, the major shareholders.
The community manager has no clue what is going on. All of my information comes from a single high level employee in Quebec whom I went to school with in (insert random Canadian university here).

Like it or not, they are quite successful in several game franchises. BF3 sold well. Madden is a license to print money, and they have hit games like Dead Space.
Originally posted by Siveria Good goddess I hope this doesn't go thru, Funcom is not the best company, but everything EA touches turns to utter shit, due to how EA runs things.
A company being bought out by EA translates to that company going out of business to me
With the news that TSW was going B2P - I was going to give it a go. But if EA touches funcom I'm out. No way, no how. EA is a malignant cancer on gaming.

Then you should email your friend and let him know he needs to watch what he says and to whom he says it, because some people like to repeat things they probably shouldn't for eCred on webforums.

Gw2 engine has one glaring issue though, the horrible 1990s low res ground textures

EA is the co-publisher for TSW
wouldnt surprise me if a closer relationship was made between EA and Funcom

Hahah... I remember when Mark Jacobs did a simliar thing about "the clowns" buying out Mythic..... Even wrote a cute little limmrick.
And I think it was, what, 6 months later...?
Need plausable deniablility to prevent share holders from freaking out and tanking the stock.. Of course they'll publicly deny it.
[Edit]
Well, the official DAoC site scrubbed any mention of Mr. Jacobs... But thankfully the internet has a long memory..

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

hope they make an anarchy online 2 sandbox game
