Dev Diary #3 released, featuring AI and player ships in battle: Viper MkII's vs Anaconda Frieghters.
Just to point out, FD don't want to reveal the UI yet or the SFX, and some of the effects are placeholdes, like the engine trails.
The games looking good so far, you can definitely sense the classic Elite in this vid. And the relistic "dark" space looks good with an arm of the galaxy visible in the background.
There have also been updates to the FAQ on the home page.

Yep just backed it actually seeing some Alpha footage swayed it for me also the Mmorpg podcast showed DB has real intentions to make Elite:Dangerous the game he always wanted to create as now he is not bogged down by publishers as he now has the Kickstarter and now unlimited control.
So also haveing backed SC I'm waiting on Infinity, well got a positive tweet from the lead dev so fingers crossed their new I-Novae demo will be as awesome as the one in 2010 and hopefully their KS campaign is as good as the one masterminded by Chris Roberts and his team.
Chris Roberts advertising, management and hyping skillz are so leet, if he made a kickstarter to reinstate Bush senior+junior and Clinton as triple sharing Presidents, he'd have them in office within the week :P
A new video is out. Here DB talks about some of the things that have been on backers minds, like planetary landings. Plus some of his newer ideas for gameplay

So they are planning to release a emty shell of a game and all the cool stuff will comes at a later stage, did I got this right?
That might well be the case! I get the feeling FD won't reveal juicy details until proper development is underway if/when they get the funding.
It's probably safe to assume that on launch the game will be much like the original, only modernised. So you'd be confined to your ship, you'd be able to trade/fight/bounty hunt your way around a more realistic galaxy.

"Here's some clarity on paying for updates:
The core game is the game due to be released in March 2014. This game is focussed on the the space element of Elite as described in the main kickstarter page.
There will be expansions to the core game. These will include things like planetary landings, leaving your ships. Big expansions like these will be paid for, but if you have pledged at to at least the £90 tier then you won't have to pay for these.
Smaller updates may also be released, these can provide new content and gameplay, but on a smaller scale than the expansions, these would be free to everyone.
I am actually interested in backing this up. The nice thing is that the creators have a good reputation and background, from my research. Space games are starting to become a trend in the industry and worth the investment. The video is also good and explains in detail what their mission is, what perks the game offers, and how they plan to complete the game.
These are all GREEN lights for me. Thanks for sharing! Kickstarter BACKED.

Elite: Dangerous on Kickstarter
Thought I'd add some screenshots of the ships from that vid. If you're a fan of the Cobra MK3 you'll have to make do with concept art.
Only two ships have been shown in dev diaries.
It appears this is the Viper MkII
The Anaconda Freighter (damage model)
NICE!!!
And only 150 copies left out of the cheap 100.000 btw!
Grab ´em so we get this campaign going faster, the world needs a new Elite spacesim!!!

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
