I have been a gamer since a buddy got me into UO. I'm 38 now, and have played every single AAA game since UO. Everquest and Daoc were the only games that had really and staying power with me. Played both games for years and still jump back into Daoc here and there when bored.........

Anyway I left this site about a year ago(member since 3/04) along with MMO's because everything is just rehashed garbage in my opinion. I just decided to try TSW, played the beta and don't think it will have the staying power for me. Oddly I had a "what the hell" moment and decided to give this free to play version of DDO a shot. I have been playing for 3 weeks and just decided to sub. I didn't buy Menace of the Underdark because I read that it is minimum level of 16 , I believe , and is really a 20-25 area. I can't wait to get there and hopefully the price will come down..it's rather pricey for an expansion.

This is just a random thread, being I found a game that has some skill depth, a different type of combat, I love dungeons and the dungeons in this MMO are a blast so far. I recommend to anyone, that this game is definitely worth a look at. The graphics aren't "today", but the gameplay is fantastic so far.

Welcome, DDO is a pretty solid game IMO, I've been playing it off and on since it released as I bought the boxed game way back when.

This is my family MMO, we have four accounts and it's a blast.

Yeah, I have to say that DDO has become a very solid and entertaining game since it went FTP.  Say what you want about the company but they do know how to do the FTP model very well.  They should be looked at by any AAA title that wants to consider a FTP style frankly.

I don't play DDO right now, but the times I have were fun, and easy to get into, which is a huge bonus for me.  It's one of the few games out there that I don't hear constant bashing about, and when it does come up it's usually in a positive light.  Enjoy your time man!

IMO DDO was ahead of its time and only has two big deficits:

    1) No PvP to speak of

    2) Semi Lobby design (No open world)

as another minor flaw there are no chat bubbles or ability to sit down, etc.

On the positive side this game allows you to build a character from many possibilities, allows you to level through quests in the order you want (you dont have to go from one quest/area to the next in the chain), and it has support classes in the form of Rogue/Artificer that gets the group through traps and into chests/locked areas.

Combat is also better in this game than most for me, because you can use a tab target mode + auto attack or just go free form and you'll hit whatever is in your way.

Movement is important in combat and out as well.

If you took a world design like vanguard, EQ2, or WoW and married it to this game I think it would be a conqueror.

I honestly rank this as the best RPG I can coop with buddies with and it's not an easy game at all. At first yeah, but later ther are some real challenges and that is like almost non-existant in today's mmo's. Only elder players can think everything is a breeze, but they have so much gear, somethings you can't even get anymore. The game allows reincarnation so you get bonuses starting the character over and some are half dozen or more generations in. Yeah they'll complain about it being to easy, but even EPIC ELITE makes whiners out of some of them. But with so many difficulty options and builds, you can find your challenge/pace.

After playing a couple of weeks of TSW i'm back with DDO because it feels like an actual world populated by people rather than a collection of mini-games. As for graphics, to be honest I didn't think much of TSW's graphics and DDO does realistic armour and weapons better than any game.

I am back to DDO also as pretty much my full time game. I p2p ddo and not sure if I am going to sub TSW, just doesn't grab me the way the Forgotten Realms setting does., I might play out a few TSW builds but DDO still has me hooked.

They just could have added some open world areas overtime... They didnt, to bad, but its still a good fun game.

Just wondering how is todays population?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

DDO is fun stuff. If you want a challenge, play a wizard. Its truly one of the best classes I have ever played in any MMO ever. There is a ton to it.

Sadly for me, my interest in DDO has waned because of a few things.

    1. itemization - Its just not that interesting compared to other games where my stats continue to go up and up, DDO they are fixed for the most part ( main ones ). This is from a caster POV. Although recent changes made this a bit more interesting, the inability for stacking stats on equipment has always been bleh for me. It is far more interesting for melee classes where weapon type vs certain mob is very important.

    2. dated graphics - ddo is looking old these days, even the new areas

    3. Not so interested in any other classes there although i may try the druid.

Its a great game though and should be tried 1-20 at least for any MMOer. The dungeon experience and multiclassing capabilities are truly fantastic and DDO has great support from Turbine.

hehe: if u want a challange do NOT play a wizard.

Wiz : easy  max int, slap rest into con, poof done deal.

Equips round u out, can one man epics LOOOONG before and with much crappier gear(even easier to gear up wiz with crafting) any melee would and usually long before any divine can.

Wiz in most games is easymode.(A well built wiz can out tank any melee on trash, out dps ALL melees in ANY situation, and can insta-kill on a whim almost non stop)

The challenge of a wizard  comes from the spell complexity. There are a ton of ways to play it. Of course u can dumb it down easy enough including doing what  most do by playing warforged.

    It's a very deep class
