Can the original Retail Disc still be used to install the core game. Will the patcher just download the new FTP files for it, or will I require to download the whole new file for FTP?

    Yes, you can use it.

    Not only can you use it, but it'll save you from a massive download. I've reinstalled the game several times with the discs, and my patching process was under 5 GB after using the install.
