The game is running pretty smoothly now compared to closed beta.
And CCP seem like they have some MAG fans making Dust with the faction references. lol (GO VALOR)
But I am not happy with the 48 player cap thats planned, seeing that MAG was 64 players (256 across 4 maps).
The game doesnt feel like a MMOFPS at all. And the game modes are boring. the gameplay feels slapped together. Nothing stands out about the gameplay.
Well I had a few suggestions.
*Something to do outside of battles other than walking around in merc chamber.
-How about they build a giant space station that functions like a huge persistent city, and allow players to move around and see tons of other players and talk and trade and stuff like that.
*Eve has space flight in its own way. What if Dust had a space flight simulator similar to Ace Combat or SWG. different from EvE's gameplay.
*PvE coop mode for smashing Aliens in a group of players. Nice mid size party. Similar to Resistance 2, with class group roles.
*Have to bring in some of MAG's PvP modes. they were well designed. Sabotage was awesome.
*Need the game to show Dust Players their impact on the persistent EvE world, visually in some way. in MAG since it had 4 way Map fights, you could see how your ally were progressing on the other maps. Made it feel like one big super map. Dust needs that.
*Also factions to replace random battles would be better, for having a community faction pride and teamwork outside of Corp battles, which will be rare and far between for most players not interested in Sandbox PvP gambling mindset.

There will certainly be more gametypes and larger maps. This is CCP we're talking about. A company which produces free expansions with major content updates every 6 months for EVE. Dust is going to see regular updates, which is why they went with Sony. Sony was going to let them push major updates regularly, where they would have to go through a lengthy process to get updates approved on Xbox, thus throwing off the 'sync' between platforms which would have made the game suffer in the long run. It would have meant PS3 users would be kept behind in order to keep pace with updates done to the 360. Less content over time, less patching, less fixing.
This ensures they have total control over the flow of content into the game.
This is also still a beta game, which by definition means it is not finished and they are testing to see what they can do. I didn't think the beta would be anywhere near to a finished game. Knowing how CCP works, I'd say further iterations will add more and more.
As for battle sizes, I'm disappointed in that as well, however, knowing what we do about CCP and the effort they put into their servers, I would wonder if they'll eventually up the size limit as they polish the game and it gets further in its life.
I've stopped playing DUST until the game is officialy released - not because of the quality of the beta per se (although it does need a few more features, such as anti-drone combat, before launch) but because the battles are being completely dominated by groups of hardcore players who have the time to play the game like it's a job (for one reason or another).
Every time you log in, there is a 50/50 chance that you will be against a hardcore squad of 4 - and you will lose the game guarenteed - by an enourmous margin.
When these hardocre players are occupied - fighting over 0.0 - DUST will be a more enjoyable experience for the normal players.
So your plan to beat players who have learned tactics you don't know how to counter is to... what? Wait until they forget them?
Give me liberty or give me lasers
I went the other route. You get a decent amount of ISK each battle, so I've been spending that on new skillbooks and different gear to try out different tactics. The salvaged items have also helped out a lot on the experimentation front. My two favorite builds so far are speedy SMG scout and heavy with a lazer.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Unless you have the time to play DUST like it's a job at the moment, "the only winning move is not to play" (to quote the film Wargames).
When the game is properly released, the hardcore players will be fighting over null sec.
Casual players will probably be playing less hardcore battles in Empire space, or against NPCs (in the form of drones).
At the moment, casual (normal) players are cannon fodder for hardcore players who regularly put in many hours.
Remember that the game is still in beta - battles are still only one-off affairs - there is no feeling of there being a universe owned by different factions. It's like a down-market game of Planetside at the moment where everything resets after each match.
This I trust will change. For one thing, Sansha incursions should be represented somehow.
