If I'm not the hero than who's drill will pierce the heavens?

The more I'm around the forums on this site, the more bitter I become.

If MMORPGs stop treating each player like the one Hero then the developers could actually make a world where anything a player does affect everyone else. That would be very very good. A living world that doesnt stop just because i logged out. If i log out and you are still playing and you siege a castle and destroy it, when i log in i should be able to see the castle destroyed in the persistent world. Yeah i missed that event but i dont care. A really persistent and living world make more sense. I will miss some action when i cant play at some point, but there will be a lot of other things i can be part of when i log back in.

The mentality that everyone has to experience every single part of the mmo is what leads companies to screw up mmos with lots of phasing and instancing. And thats one reason mmos never evolve, because they have to be static and never changing so everyone does the same things at any time specially when it comes to the Lore and mechanics. Let them flow with time. It doesnt matter if someone logs out and miss something, its gone for good. New stuff will result after that event ended and you can be part of the outcome of it.

What stories? Some guy who has to go feed his daughter so the raid wiped? Loot drama? Someone came by and toss you a heal?

You call those "stories"? I have been EQ for a year .. there is no "stories" ... not in the context of lore. If you count camping 6 hours, and bitching about it with my friend about how boring it was ... then that is the only story.

As with nearly every topic, you missed the point. It has nothing to do with what you assume and posted as expamples to try and make the games seem full of garbage, but rather those memorable stories of player interactions that stick with you.

For me for instance, I remember being in trouble in Paladual Caverns in EQ and I knew I'd die in a bad spot. Luckily...another player came to my rescue and helped me. I was very grateful. We ended up becoming very good friends who had many good conversations and very frequently grouped up for things we needed to.

We stay in contact to this day via FB or even phone calls  reminiscing good times in game, discussing RL stuff, or recommending games to one another. That is just one example...but there are MANY more. Can't say that about most MMORPG's now.

Not one single thing in your story couldn't/doesn't just as easily happen in any other MMO.

heck you don't even need a MMO for that.

You can easily go into a public game in D3, and have the same experience.

FFS. D3 is NOT an MMORPG.

Pretty sure that's what he just said.

    Reading is hard.

Simply pointed it out for him again because he always uses non-MMORPG games for MMORPG discussion points, which is moot. Just amazing he actually noticed to say it wasn't for a change...but thanks for your note worthy input as usual.

Games are games. Plus that is the whole point i am making. You don't need a MMORPG for the said interaction.

And who says you can only mentioned MMORPG in a MMORPG discussion. You never heard of the concept of comparisons before.

And yes, learn to read .. I pretty much said D3 is not a MMO already. Do you really need to repeat it?
