Is Trion competing with themselves?

VhalnVhaln Member Posts: 3,159
Noticed the new ad, play Rift for a free weekend - the same weekend as their final beta event for Defiance?  Am I understanding that right?  Are they planning to advertise Defiance in Rift, or what?

When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Whatever it is it's not good plaining on their part. they should of went to the other office and found out and switch dates.

Or they are concerned that Defiance is going to be overrun with people and are trying to reduce the load with people playing Rift.

Or, since they have a unified login, it's a great way to get people trying one to also try the other. Not to mention, the stacked promotion will flood the major channels with Trion buzz, increasing everything from reach to ranking.

If there's one thing Trion is good at, it's marketing, so I'm inclined to say they've got a solid strategy behind what they're doing.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

They are not competing on the same genre, one is a war type game one is a rpg.

If you have not yet noticed,Trion spends a ton on marlketing and advertising,i remeber having their ads pop up in google searches that were not even related to gaming,so ecpect to see the meverywhere even in their own games.

As to the person saying tehy are good at marketing,is there really a "GOOD" ,it is just basically mass spending. This is the same thing Blizzard and EA have done for years.

Also to further prove the my point on "good",they  recently acquired Archeage, actually about 5 weeks ago and have yet to start anything to market the game.So do they really do a good job or just uise money to buy up possible competition and flood the market  with adverts? Not only have they done so little to market AA,it was last i checked ,not even in their game list,so again good marketing ?I think not.Buying up the licensing rights to possible competition does noty fall under the marketing label, but is a smart busniess decision.

No, they are not. They have 3 games no. One released, one will be soon released(Defieance) and another one will be later this year/or next year released(ArcheAge). And all three have completely different audiences.

One is PvE(WoW style) raiding game, the other one is some kind of fps shooter, and the next is somewhat of a sandbox with heavy pvp involved.. three different audiences.. they dont compete alot against each other.

Don't most gamers play all different genres, or am I wierd?

Did you all know that Pepperidge Farms makes about 20 different kinds of cookies?  Did you know that they often advertise those different cookies at the same time. Sometimes on the same page. Sometimes even in the same ad!!

You're looking solely at quantity and missing message and strategy.

    Shhh! Such things are heresy.

yeah I play GW2, BL2, minecraft and Champions online. you're not wird at all, most of us are too busy playing to post much.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

I play all genres and Trion never did wrong by me in Rift which is why I'm now heavily invested into Defiance.  It may be crap but it's Trion.  In Trion I Trust.

That being said, I think lokto is right on this one.  Bring everyone over to the company.  Some people will dig Trion's new stuff in Rift and they've shown they're willing to put money into that game.  Some people would prefer the sci-fi shooter that is Defiance.

It's about diversifying.  Plus, I think this is another toe in the water in regards to console platforms for MMO's.  I LOVED playing FFXI on my 360 but I was in a HUGE minority.  I didn't care for DCUO on PS3.  I'm not interested in Eve's version.

And I don't know about ya'll but as a gamer, I'm HIGHLY diversified.  I've got major investments of time and money in iPad, Xbox, PS3, 3DS, WII U, my gaming PC, my gaming laptop and all the previous gen stuff I have laying around.  I don't play just one kind of game.

defiance is scyfy game ,trion create it but it is still scyfy (yes the hdtv channel)so i doubt scyfy would invest money in something they plan to make fail ,remember they have a tv serie linked to this also!

The sort of person who would like to try Rift but hasn't gotten around to it yet probably isn't the same sort of person who really, really needs to get in on a beta for a game that hasn't even released yet.
