The combat is so damn fun.  I guess I realy like it because its fun like borderlands so if you like borderlands you will love this.

Hmmmm... I loved Borderlands (still waiting for BL2 to drop in price).  Maybe you sold me on Defiance... however, I'm not paying 60 bucks for something I will probably only play a few months.

OP, you do realize this isn't even a MMORPG, right?  It's a persistent shooter.

That being said.. sure it's sandbox... i guess.  I mean, you don't have to log in and follow a set quest path to progress afaik.  You log in and go do whatever you want wherever you want.  Just, mainly "the whatever" is limited to shooting stuff.

There is no persistance in this shooter other than the persistance of the mobs to spawn from random doors/trucks over and over and over... and over. It's almost funny and i can't wait for the first benny hill remixes of those videos i seen online.

It looks really boring if you ask me.

isnt that how it is in all mmos and video games?

These forums used to be a decent mix of mmo gamers but they've tipped really really heavily toward the MMO hipster the past two years.

On this site, not on these forums. If this site is like other fansites, there's some overlap between the news readers and forum goers, but it's not all that much.

Hi, are you using an account that isnt yours? because you seem to be new to the mmo genre and not since 2006. I can name one flop and one bad game that have persistance apart from mobs, Ryzom and Salem. And lets not get into Eve here.

This game is a coop BL, thats it. And i think thats cool.

Been playin mmos since Ultima Online and most of the mmos I have played since then have mobs that respawn in same locations such as the most popular one called WoW. ryzom doesnt even exist anymore and what the hell is a salem.  Eve is too dofferent to compare.

Its the sibling of Firefall. Not twins, just two sisters. You can notice their familiar traits, but each has their own personality.

If you love one, you will most likely love the other ;)

Thats why i said it was bad, read my post. I just said that it tracks persistance on other stuff apart from mobs which you said was the only thing games did nowdays. If a game as bad as that one can do it....well then what does it say about the good games?

If you're abit fuzzy about questing then why bother signing up for the beta?

So he can decide whether he wants to play the finished game and if his concerns are valid?  Gee!  You'd think people sign up for betas because of the free launch loot.

I thought everyone signed up for betas for the free launch loot. Am I wrong?

$60 for a few months seems like a deal to me....  Lot of people blow that one night at the bar or just one dinner...  Whereas this can get you a good few months of every night enjoyment.

    this always cracks me up

people who complain that a new mmorpg is not a sandbox don't actually pay sandbox mmorpgs. if they did eve would have a LOT more subs.

The fact you can drive through everyone and their nan is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen in games, was really excited until I saw that.

You cant hit players but you can damage mobs by ramming them and different cars do different damage like the hummer does a lot more than the buggy but is not as fast

I've played a few hours only so far. As a first impression it makes me call it Global Agenda 2. =p

    NDA has been lifted.

welcome to MMOs my friend. Everything can be boiled down to a fetch quest in one way or another in an MMO.

The more I'm around the forums on this site, the more bitter I become.

Technically true but the email notice itself regarding the lifting of the NDA encourages people to start talking about the game any and everywhere right now...  LOL. He won't get shot for that.

As far as I know, Trion never mentioned anything about their game being a sandbox..

    Unless I am missing something...

  • ElRenmazuoElRenmazuo Member RarePosts: 5,361

It may not be a sandbox by most peoples standards but it is an open-world.

And yet than you point them to a real sandbox - like Age of Wushu or Parallel Kingdom. And they say "Ah..gameplay sucks, and graphic is bad"

I've subbed to EVE on like 5 separate occassions over the years.  I really love the idea of it, but I just find the PvE to be extremely underwhelming.  It's an amazing sandbox if you PvP.  It's mediocre at best if you just PvE.

Hasn't been a good PvE sandbox since SWG.

I still don't get the whole sandbox vs. themepark argument when it comes to Defiance though.. it's a shooter game.. do people not know what one is like?  Try Planetside or Global Agenda or Borderlands.. it's really not rocket science.

To be quite frank, just play the beta and learn for yourself. I am having a blast (pun intended) going around and finding random quests and the Ark Fall events are bitchin. Was in one last night that had at least 75 or more in it and no hickups, no lag, no nothing, just pure run and gun. It does have a small learning curve cause it is not a typical MMO. But once your past that, it can get crazy at times.
