I agree about the "animal-race"'s running animation. In fact, I mentioned this waaaaaay back when I was personally much more excited about AA. The rest sounds doable, but I figured it was going to be more sandbox than people are saying.
I see it's popping up even more, the closer we get to a beta by TRION.
Told you so, about the whole sandbox slash themepark brainteaser. People jumped way too soon on the whole "ahmagad it's a sandbox" train before looking around a bit more.
Once again, those who have their expectations in check will enjoy the game for what it is.
No matter how good the game is, until devs stop adding this bad and generic questing system as the main source of leveling and storytelling, every mmo will feel and get boring fast. I doubt ill pay a sub again for a game with generic questing. Everything else sound good, but i personally am tired of this and will not keep supporting mmos with generic questing as the main focus of progression through the story. These companies are starting to make very good games but they kill them in a second with this decades old, boring, generic, plain bad questing system. Maybe the devs think the questing system has zero importance in the game and that nobody will care if they just keep the same boring static questing? if so, then why even bother adding quests...... and if your going to bother adding them, then please add a good dynamic questing system. SPecially in a game like this one that has sandbox elements.

It was a sandbox, not anymore.
It's a hybrid, always was.
For RP, telling a background story shouldn't be made up from thin air, there should be a backdrop to the theme.
I don't see how sandbox players won't like ArcheAge.
--
In a full sandbox game, you just make up your own background .. I came from aliens .. I came from a failed dragon birth .. I came from a cyborg gone wrong! ..naw .. In a hybrid you can't make shit like that up .. there is a background to adhede to.

Eh... that is not what sandbox is.
In a full sandbox like Minecraft, Roleplay is impossible, with believable background stories. Even the most successful "sandbox" style MMORPG's had at least some bounds where a player could step or not step. And then when does someone stop at sandbox .. it's the pre-rendered art style themebox?
For Archeage, sandbox is determining your own future. It's themepark for leveling, but endgame is what makes or breaks a game. ArcheAge is not a sandbox, but no way in hell a themepark .. it's in the middle.
I see it's popping up even more, the closer we get to a beta by TRION.

RP doesn't really have much to do with sandbox...
Sandbox just means the way the game is made, is it made with dev created content in mind or with system and tools for the users to use to create their own content.

You're talking about sandbox tools for creation.
I'm talking about sanbox for playing.
I feel a sandbox game has more to offer to RP's, especially with a themepark backdrop.
Take SWG for instance, would the experience have been the same without Star Wars...?
What if it was some B movie sci-fi back-drop for RP'ers?
My statement was that it is the background that makes Sandbox possible in MMORPG's. With a dry background like Minecraft, there is no background - anyone and everyone makes up their own story. Add a background and that is your themepark hybrid.
Ofc you can create your own background, in a game with lots of tools and possibilities it just makes it into an easier task to create the stuff to support the story/background. But sandbox in itself has nothing to do with RP so please dont mix it into the discussion on whether the game is sandboxy or not.

I don't like the option that other people can just make up stories, as an MMORPG'er.
I just don't like it, sorry. It's pretty cruddy if someone can just make stuff up as they go.
Zzzz Sandbox wannabe's. You really think that a Sandbox game is empty of everything .. devoid .. gone .. everything missing .. someone has to code the walls to your house .. oh SNAP .. that means it's themepark, because someone designed something for you?
Might get used to it, because those developers also designed the artwork for your sandpark game. And the moment they designed it, that could only mean ONE thing ....... yup, any game designed by another human being is themepark, because it has someone elses influnses involves.

Are you just trying to troll right now? I am quite aware of sandbox and themepark, in fact im working on a 'sandbox' title currently. You don't code walls, either you do not understand game development and how all of this works or you are simply trying to troll.
According to you something is a themepark if it is made since it's influenced by someone else, then it is impossible to create a sandbox game but fact is that games like EVE Online is considered an sandbox so clearly I am right in this case.

ummm the whole point of a sandbox is being able to create your own things as your own story or physical structers and such hence the name "sandbox" otherwise its a persistant online open world which is what most mmos are like WoW.
A lot of you guys should really stop judging a game you have not played yet.
I've been playing Archeage on Korean servers in a while and I want to tell you the following:
Yes, PvP is unbalanced - as it is in every single mmorpg I have played. However, theres 120 class combinations, you can choose whatever skills you want from talent trees and there's 3 kinds of armor and by changing these you can virtually turn your class into a 'new class' (at least it feels completely different). From my own experiences and from what I hear from other players, almost every specc is viable and has its niche - or at least is fun to play.
Yes, quests (especially on higher levels) are boring as fuck - however, take into consideration that most of us can't understand the quest texts and there's room for entertainment we can't see at the moment. In addition, you only do quests once. It takes a week or two to complete them all and you will never think of them again. Aside from that you don't even need to do quests at all if you don't want to.
Faction system is brilliant. It's what really makes the game so exciting. There's a ubiquious fear of being killed in almost every place in the games whole huge beautiful world, especially on the high seas! Everybody can kill everybody and you never know who you can really trust. There's west vs east vs pirates but there's also pirates vs other pirates fighting for this or that island, west guild A vs west guild B and so on. You can lose everything you worked for in a while when facing the wrong people at the wrong place in the wrong time. E.g. the trade route thing often leads to three or more party fights, betrayal, deception, hide and seek, drama or whatsoever. It's so exciting. Well, you really have to play the game (and have some koreans to tell you what's going on) to truly understand what I mean.
Themepark/Sandbox discussion is retarded. It's a great game that allows you to do a lot of cool stuff. Fun is what you make of it, not the box you put the game in.
YOU CAN BE A FRIGGIN PIRATE!
I don't want to go too much into detail. The game is very complex and I could talk hours and hours about it. Just wanted to point out some things. Also keep in mind there's a lot of content not even released yet. No doubt, the game has its flaws, as every game has, but XLGames is working hard on this game.
If you're an unpleasable, constantly complaining, prepubescent moron - stay away from the game. It's not perfect.
If you are a fan of mmorpgs and want to have some fun, a good time with friends and you are in search for a new refreshing fantasy world, then give Archeage a shot. You might end up being disappointed because life is a bitch and you can't always get what you want or you might find a new exciting game to call home. Either way, you have to find out on your own and play the game.
Thats a boss review of the game to say the least. BUMP for that alone. I am not sure this is my type of game though. I loved the tax/rent system of SWG. Having to feed stuff sounds cool, but I would hate to go on vacation and come back with all my farm dead, stuff stolen and my house rotting to pieces. I am sure some would love the realism of all that, for me it seems to be a bit much.
Also, the public trial sounds pretty nifty. I would love to see that ...

Not yet.
