If everyone went around funding ideas, we all be rich.

What would be wrong with everyone being rich?  I kind of like the idea.

[mod edit]  First off its not and never will be a AAA mmo. Its a small team (roughly a dozen people), making a small niche game that will be targetting about 50k subs. Part of the reason for the kickstarter is to gauge interesting in the game not fund the whole game. If people put up or shut up then the game will be made or will not be.

If you bothered to take 10 minutes to read anything on these forums you'd know there is no game and there will be no game until after it funds. If it doesn't fund then no game now maybe ever. The best you'll get is some tech demo's and some concept art/models. If you expect more given all the info on these forums about what this project, not game yet mind you, is about then to demand more [mod edit]

You either buy into the idea or you don't, its as simple as that.

If you even had bothered viewing the videos MJ is making EVERY day you would see that this man has passion!

So because Garriot has a working proof it means he has passion and this team doesn't? I understand your skepticism for CSE not having much to show. Plenty of time to change that as you stated in your first post. Everyone has a different point in where they buy into something. If you don't consider interacting with a potential community like CSE has been doing over the past month or two as showing enough passion I'm not sure what ever they provide prototype wise will be any where close, to what seems is a decision you have already made. I'm just looking for an explanation of how you justify Garriot having a prototype making him more passionate than CSE?

This funding is voluntary.  Don't like it?  Don't fund it.  You were "done" before you even posted.  Your original post was nothing more than a troll.  You don't like the game concept and the funding, we get it.  You brought nothing to the conversation, let's just hope you can stay gone now.

You really need to change the title to "Show me something that deserves my funding", which is a fair and valid point then, remember backing a kickstarter is a personal choice. While I do like kickstarter, me personally I need more than just an idea and a few pieces of art, and they have however many days left to win more backers. Maybe even me, hehe.

I agree with you 100% raagnarz...people are going to defend the fact that they dropped

X amount of dollars on a would be possible dream. Where a small developer cant even put together an in game shitty tech demo but rather mouch funds from the general public to buy into a crappy Niche game. That in the end might not even see the light of day.

Its like herdin sheep man...there isint a clear leader just everyone follows each other...lol....your odds are better spent at the casino then this crap.

Have to agree, theres too little to the game so far to inspire any kind of confidence they can make the game, most of the kickstarter projects i've looked at in the past have had far more substance image

It is not all about the money.  Sometimes in life you realize that we all have a limited time here.  And given an opportunity to make a small investment into our future potential happiness is worth reaching out for that chance.  Especially considering that there is no risk of financial loss.  This looks like a great opportunity to me to invest in my future happiness.

I'm 95% sure you can wait 2015 and buy the game in your local videogames retailer. You won't see that kind of footage before the end of the KS.

I also find funny to read posts like this when Torment reached almost 5 times the original goal with only two screenshots and some concept arts.

Pledging for a project on kickstarter a little bit as buying stocks, if you don't think the company has potential you really should not buy their stocks.

On the other hand if you FEEL like it HAS potential you really should invest.

Those of us that already has pledged for CU, have a feeling that the project shows promise and want the product that they will try to make.

  • StilerStiler Member Posts: 599

It seems like some people don't understand the point of kickstarter.

It's to get projects like this OFF The gorund. It isn't like the game is already deevloped and they can give you in-depth 15+ minute "walkthroughs" showing of everything, because the bloody game isn't even DEVELOPED YET, that's the point of kickstarter, to get it built.

All they can show off are concept and early prototype tech (to show they have a base and know what they are doing). That's what they've done so far.

Showing the base programming with thousands of characters on screen iwth no lagging. Shown concept art/models for two races, shown network interactivty and other things which they will build upon IF the game is funded, and it will turn into CU and be built upon.

it's like demanding to see a fully developed OUYA before their kickstarter was funded, but you saw none who demanded that did you?

Very true Ogrelin. Many gaming projects on kickstarter show nothing but concept art, etc.

Let's not talk about the Oyua.... please.... not a good time.

The foundational principals were good enough for me.  A lot of the same things I've been thinking for years.  As much as I see people whine that they are just ideas, I've been waiting quite a long time to see anyone seriously try to create a game focusing on the fantasy open RvR niche.  Would I have loved if some big developer was seriously willing to risk the money to go after that niche?  Yeah.  It's not going to happen though.  At least not without a project like this succeeding.

I agree with the OP, if you wanna do kickstarter have something to show you're serious, all these has-beens asking for millions to fund their little pet projects with ZERO risk to themselves is just disgusting.  And anyone funding these projects should be ashamed of themselves for encouragaing this.  Fund CU when they have an engine to show us and solid information not a a few paragraphs about how awesome the developer(s) think their game will be.

Zero risk to them? lol Mark Jacobs has publicly stated he will be adding 2 million of his own funds when kickstarter completes.

And again someone who does not know why kickstarter exists.

The game will not be made unless kickstarter is successful, period, end of story.
