It seems to be one of the major design focuses of this game to have heavily instanced content. Does anyone know how long these quests are and whether players can be added to the group once one has begun?
I have nothing against instanced content per se but one of the reasons I stopped playing Guild Wars was because it was often a pain to find people to group up for quests with and when you did they would often drop or quite in the middle of a quest, causing you to have to repeat the process. I am rather afraid that DDO might have similar problems.

I don't think you're going to like the answer. The devs have said that quests should take between 30 miuntes to 2 hours (don't know if that includes finding a group and learning the dungeon beforehand).
My understanding is that the group you enter with is the group you're stuck with - similar to Guild Wars. And unlike GW there are no NPC henchmen to fill up slots.
For one thing its D&D. Its not about getting to lvl 20 with all the uber loot and 8th circle spells. If thats what your looking for go else where. D &d is about role play emmersion. While looking for a group head to the friendly tavern tell tales of the past drink a mug of ale. Role play i know mmoRPG sounds nutts to do such things. If the devs want this game to suceed there gonna have to be strict on the role playing. If not then its 500 ppl lfg and doing nothing but crying cause they cant get a group and they cant get to 20 with the sword of 1 hit slaying.

Your not gonna get much roleplay in this game unless you join a role play style guild. It's more find a group and go hack and slash your way through the dungeon while destroying lots of boxes and I mean lots of boxes.
Hack and Slash this game is not... in fact you get absolutely no EXP from hacking or slashing.
Secondly it is group based, and I hope they put in an EXP penalty for abandoning a quest, cause its really just poor sportsmanship to leave your group cause whatever reason like they might not be doing as well as you like.
I think you'll find its going to be a very different RPG, and even though cambat may resemble DW I think you'll find that thats about the only resembalance between the two.
Well after playing it for a while i can say that it isn't any different from the rest. You get a group, move to the dungeon and kill everything in it. How is that any different from all the others? Sure you can sneak around a bit and dissable traps but most of the time you don't have to. I'm not saying it's a bad game tho, personaly I enjoyed playing it a little more than the rest.
The point is... the killing everything in the dungeon is not a requirement for beating the quest, have you ever thaught about trying to get thru a quest by not killing everything...
If fact if you read the Devs posts on the official site, some quests have bonuses and rewards for completeing a quest in different ways...
One example was a quest that you could complete by killing less than 5% of the monsters and you got an EXP bonus for doing so.
The problem is too many people are going to try and play DDO like a hack and slash, which is what most games in this genre have become, and are going to overlook the more enjoyable aspects of the game.
Next time you play do yourself a favor and ask yourself, is there another way to go about completing the quest?
