Actually as I remember, the dev team always listened to the players, but the problem was that there was so many bugs to be fixed that 1 year a game life wasn't enough. And a lots of bugs were fixed!
The game was release too soon indeed. I played it in the beta and after release for several months.
I think they changed the loot system, because they wanted this game to be accesible to a larger group of people. Imagine that you grinded materials for couple of months in order to carft your 9 tier gear which is the best in game and you loose it in battle because you haven't ensured it ... that is a real pain and it happened a lot when the game was alive.
This was a hardcore game for a specific type of players ... like DayZ. The fear that you can loose everything in just one single battle ...
It was a sandbox game, with many locations that can be captured and hold by an individual player or a guild and let us not forget that half of their enormous continent was a PvP conquest territory full of neutral bases that can be captured, constructed, defended ... lost.
What can I say, Earthrise was always a good promise but half-made. I hope these new guys that are working on it will make it a whole complete game once and for all!
One last thing: The screenshots and the video ARE FROM ACTUAL GAMEPLAY!

So why does anyone want a full loot system?
So why would anyone want to play in a game where dying in pvp means simply respawning? If you played the original ER (which I am going to go out on a limb and say no you didnt) with all its flaws, the only thing that was 'fun' about it was the pvp and the intensity of losing everything (that you had on you, not banked). It was not just another carbon copy of the themepark pvp system going around. But sadly that is where the game is headed now, which means it will have 0 playerbase as this game is not built up to be a themepark like they want it to be.
I, thank goodness, did not purchase the founder pack stuff they have going on. I am actually an ER vet (played it from beta till a few months before its close) and they did let me in the alpha simply through an alpha app. The game to this point literally has nothing new in it. Actually a lot of stuff is disabled that makes it even worth playing at all (gain exp but have no way of using it on skills, can gain mats but no crafting system at all). It is highway robbery to charge someone, especially with the state of the game right now, to alpha test this game when they dont even have any of what they want to 'test' ingame yet.

The cat with the eyes has it. This was a horrible game. It had nothing to do with any mechanics and everything to do with the horrible state the game was in.
I had a bug where either I was stuck in combat, or could not enter combat. There are things you need to do while in combat and things you need to do while not in combat, and if you can't do both the game is unplayable. Get this, the fix was to run into the ocean. As in literally find a beach, run out into the ocean and swim for awhile and it would reset your state. You couldn't run far away from stuff on land, you had to swim out into the ocean.
Changing your video settings could result in an orange screen. As in the entire screen is orange with occasional geometric flashes to let you know things were happening in the game.
Sometimes your character would get stuck running and wouldn't stop. You could log out and back in, or log out, exit the program and log back in and your character would still be there running against the wall.
The game was the cr@ptastiest cr@p fest that ever cr@pped its way across my screen. I have never played a game demo, beta or near release game that was in as bad a shape as this game was in. Which was a shame, because the ideas behind the game sounded really cool.
If you dig into the whois records for the website, you'll notice that the contacts for the website's domain are the same people that had the domain when the game released before. There is some connection between this new company and the old company. Maybe it's just the one guy who decided he could do a better job or something, I'm not sure, but it's not a whole new company with no relation to the old one. It's a little fishy.
Anyway, maybe they'll get it right this time, but I'd doubt it.

Then I sure won't play it.
Agreed, this was one of the most fun parts of the game...

If you forgot to insure your expensive manufactured gear, you only had yourself to blame. And T10 was the highest tier you could get. Not 9. It had similar insurance system to EVE. At least inspired by it. But you could still be carrying mats after farming creatures and it would be nervewrecking to get back to town and bank it before someone jumped you. Now with this new "loot"-system, all excitement is gone. Oh, you got jumped, so what. You maybe loose one random object, and get to keep the rest. Yawn. I still hope, that they will change this before launch. Cause that would get me back. But they seem way to stuborn, and don't wanna listen to old vets or any1 else that don't follow their grand plan for the game. I'm alittle worried bout the new skillsystem as well, but will try b4 I cast my verdict.

Possibly a criminal money grab...
They sold the hell outta this game the first time then pulled the plug, said FU to those of us that bought it.
Now they are posting videos and screenshots not taken from the game they are selling.
They have waited until the heat died down and are reselling the exact same game as the first time, soon as the heat builds up they will do exactly what they did before pull the plug grab the money and run.
Masthead believed resurfacing under a new company name would be beneficial to Earthrise. Posing as a new development team looking to rise from the ashes and turn the title around. Unfortunetly the game hasn't improved in the slightest, it's still a complete mess.
The positive comments I see from a few members speaking of the alpha testing, they are either directly involved with the game or were PAID to preach it's awesomeness.
I'll only say this once, as I did with Earthrise v1.0 - STAY AWAY.
Im pretty sure as well SilentFuture is the same company. The community forum manager (or developer, whoever he is) Keos when the game first came back online had already been a forum member since the game originally launched. What I am getting at is he already had a post count of a little over a hundred (as they kept the old forum database, my account still had old messages in my inbox but my posts were wiped clean HOWEVER I did still have my post count from the previous forum). So if Keos is part of this new company and has no ties with the old, how/why was his post count not 0 when the game very frist came back by this new company? Sure he could have been an old ER gamer who they hired on as there main community manager/developer but I highly doubt it.
Have you ever looked up Masthead? They were bulgarian and SilentFuture ist german. So, I don't think they aren't the same company. Concerning the community manager/developer talked about: Perhaps he was braught in to understand the engine code of ER. Perhaps the only remains of MAsthead.
Give it a chance. I am german and I understand the comany's legal form: SilentFuture exists since 2005, it was transformed into a "UG" in 2012 (UG = ldt. as a legal form). It already existed before the game was first launched.
I have also read that the game will be mostly "free 2 play". So, why are you guys concerned? Playing it for free: If you like it, contribute but if you don't: simply don't play it anymore! That's what I will do!
Oh give me a break. Full Loot is a system for masochists who enjoy starting again over and over and over again. What the hell is the fun in that, are you insane? Who finds this fun? I find it insane that so many people enjoy this stupid feature in games. I guess anything that gives them a "Look how hardcore I am!" boner is all they care about, because I can't see any other reason someone would enjoy starting over multiple times like that. Here's the thing: You WILL die. Doesn't matter that you feel good that you killed that guy and got his sweet gear, you WILL die and you WILL lose it. That's the biggest waste of fucking time I've ever heard of, and you're going to pay money for that? I'm not sure that's insanity or stupidity. Play the game of "Real Life" if you enjoy permadeath, seriously.

I get annoyed when people get angry that a ridiculous feature is missing from a new game.

Well what you consider ridiculous is purely subjective. What if I told you that paying for years to hold on to your precious digital equipment only for it to go away for good all at once when your developers close shop is just as insane? How about those who destroy friendships in real life over a drop mishandle because you think possessing that item is worth it? What about killing the same mob week after week after week after week hope that it eventually drops your lightning shin guards of 10000 beetle shells in which you hope no one else needs or you end up waiting for it again...and again...and again...
Instead of the pot arming wrestling with the kettle, why don't you just consider the fact that people are different, and are entertained differently. There is nothing wrong with both play styles. They are both fun and equally suck at the same time...

The game loads much faster, in a matter ot 7-8 sec. which is a huge improvement from the past. It really has a better performance than before.
