Campaign derailing failed the last 2 minutes

RigamortisRigamortis Member UncommonPosts: 207

Try as they might,  the trolls unsuccessfully tried to derail the project from funding in the last 2 minutes,  pulling at least $40k in pledges.  I find it a shame that people have so much hate for something that others obviously enjoy they do their best to ruin it by pledging in the highest price tiers only to pull it at the last second.  Thankfully we funded and already close to our 3rd stretch goal of 2.5M

Not sure I would call that trolling necessarily. I'm sure many that were backing their limit decided to do less or even drop their backing when they saw it would fund.

Agreed, likely most of those were people scaling back because there was no need to go in so high. Last minute buyer sanity probably kicked in as well.

Actually, you can't pull out of a pledge in the last 24hrs if it will cause the KS to fail, anyone trying to derail the project would have pulled out the day before. These were probably people who were willing to spend big if necessary, but when that was not required would rather drop their pledge to a sensible level.

Derailing in what way?  can you give an example.  All I know is that the CU community did a campaign of spamming gaming news outlets.

Will have to disagree with you there.  The project was $256k over the funding point,  so we had several people completely pull out of the higher tiers,  NOT reduce their pledge....pull out with 2 minutes to go.  If it it walks like a duck and talks like a duck.....well......

You can pull out in the last 24 hours, but not once it hits the goal.

When it hits the goal, you can only reduce to an ammount that won't allow it to fail.

Would have been very funny if they had gotten locked in at the high prices they pledged though! Mommy and Daddy would have whipped some asses if they saw 10k on their credit cards.

I think someone lowered his pledge tier at the last minute but forgot to change the pledge amount :P.

I doubt any regular troll would do such a thing fearing he could get billed due to some sytstem feilure when pulling back lol. Maybe it was competition, maybe those were fake pledges made by developers to stir up interest in KS and maybe the guy just didnt payed out his dealer ;-)

Though I respect your opinion and everyone elses here.....I still find it "odd" they wait till the last 2 minutes to start bailing.  Pulling out of the 10k tier and reducing your donation to $1 is an obvious give away.

I pulled my pledge in the last twenty seconds. Because it already hit the goals I thought it would hit.

And, I personally can buy the game when it comes out.

I find it more likely that some of the big doners got cold feet when they realized the thing was going to fund and they would be on the hook for the donation.  It would be pretty easy to get caught up in the moment and promise $1000 plus when the chance of funding was low but once it acually happened reality set in.

Anyone who has looked at their credit card bill after a long drinking night or a drunken weekend in vegas can probalby understand. :-)

I dont see a problem. there was no way they could unfund the project once it hits the goal.
  • HorafHoraf Member Posts: 15

I believe it may have been declined credit, and too high a draw forr debit cards, as amazon actually processed the pledges.

At least, that is what the comments section at the KS surmised.

If you check back, some of those higher tiers have refilled, as peoplecleared the charge with thier banks.

People more than likely saw they did not need to pledge much or at all towards the end and bailed out. It is possible people never intended to pay and dropped. I would not put it past people.

Doesn't this happen with every Kickstarter? Big donators tend to pull out close to the wire. I'm guessing the most popular reason is because they don't want to spend a huge chunk of change on Kickstarter if the project is going to fund anyway.

Good grief, better run and get Alex Jones and Jesse Ventura on the case then!

At first I read the OP and thought that maybe people were actually posting about doing this. You are just coming to conclusions with nothing to back it up but your own "logic" that it must have been trolls?? wow...
