Old player giving it another go

bjohansenbjohansen Member Posts: 11

I bought the game back when it first released but stopped playing before the first month expired due to unknown reasons. As far as I remember, I did enjoy the game :)

I'm now returning to the game, but due to all the negative feedback towards the EU version I've decided to download the US version and start from scratch.

Anyone playing the game whom I could add ingame for a chat and perhaps play with?

Now that the game is F2P.  You will have no problems finding people to game with if you don't happen to get any responses here.  I played from closed beta 1 to a month after F2P.  F2P felt full of people like the closed betas.  Not sure how its doing now, but haven't heard anything bad.

It's a much better game with an active account. You get alot of extras that the freeloaders don't.  So I suggest subscribing.

I've decided to come back and give it another go. I have a Founder's account, so I don't have quite all the limitations a purely free account would have. Still, I intend to re-sub this week, once I get paid.

I had a difficult time getting into it the first time around, and I think that had a lot to do with bouncing from server to server as friends I knew were starting, others would switch servers themselves, others stopped playing, etc. I kinda got tired of that initial routine of running through the first series of quests. Plus it didn't seem clear what the game's future was, so I didn't want to invest too much time into it.

This time around, I'm having way more fun so far. I'm back on my Warrior and, while it was tough re-learning how to play in that style, and I had a tough time against even weaker mobs, I've gotten back on the ball and am having a blast fighting stuff. At first I was nervous about fighting individual enemies, now I'll take on 2-3 at a time and do just fine, dancing around them, using the appropriate skils at the right times, moving in when they're "down" after a special attack, or a knock-down. I've come away from pretty tough fights without a scratch against multiple enemies, where before I was lucky to be alive after fighting one lol.

It's a refreshing change, and a lot more fun than the "stand in one spot and press buttons" routine. Not knocking that approach at all, I've enjoyed that style of play for years and years. But TERA's more action-based approach is just a nice change of pace for me. You actually have to be mobile and constantly paying attention to what's going on around you. I'm diggin' it.

The questing isn't terribly interesting itself, but the areas and encounters they get me into make them very enjoyable.

I haven't fought my first BAM, or done my first Dungeon yet... so I'm sure that's going to add some nice variety to it as well.

I've taken up Alchemy so I can keep myself supplied with potions and such, selling additional ones on the Market for some extra money.

All in all, it's proving to be a very fun experience so far this time around.

I guess I just had to get away from the game long enough for the whole "doing the same starting quests over and over" thing out of my system :p.
