Can we honestly stop talking geography and get back to the topic of the future of MMOs?

On average for MMOs in the last 5-7 years about half the Western revenue comes from EU and half from NA.  No sane MMO developer would ignore the market recently (though sane and MMO developer are not necessarily intersecting sets).

Before that (2000ish?) in the UO/AC era, EU was under served because a significant number of MMO players had to use dialup and there were extra charges in the EU on data that made games almost unplayable.  So the market used to lag significantly in support.

It'd be odd if any of our competitors still treated the EU as a secondary market; for us, we can do math if nothing else so we won't if we can help it (beyond the lag of translation).  That's why we added EU gamers to CBT1, have a team out there right now, hold up the US press w embargoes until we can do events out there too, etc.  And you're seeing good domestic games being made there too.

There's subtleties beyond that but I'm on an iPad and the q&a ain't for a few hours yet.  Don't let me stop y'all from picking on Bill though, I enjoy that too ;)

Mr Gaffney, I would like to buy you a drink. And I mean that in the least suggestive manner possible.

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to keep us updated :). But seriously dude, an iPad? :O.

As a gamer in the EU, its nice to hear that Server Lag shouldn't be an issue. Also, when am I getting my beta invite! Don't make me dress up as a gingerbread man and camp outside your office.

We are doing some big reveals on those in the next few weeks...I could probably be convinced to leak a bit in advance to tease those.

Other stuff going on now includes CBT2 going live ASAP, stress test going up soon, details on any of the stuff we have already revealed in broad strokes - housing, combat, raids, dungeons, elder games, dev speaks, etc.   But really I'll field questions on just about anything except the Disclaimer Guy from our videos.

For some reason, I read that in 'Del' Boy Trotter's" voice. For all the Americans and non-Brits. I'm talking about this guy.

Don't know if it's been asked yet, but I was wondering about the subscription model if any? I would honestly pay 10x over the standard for what I believe this game could be.

    Questions hereeeee!!

    # will the stress test  be limited in number like close beta? I'd assume you want to crash your server so moar people = good ?

    # On average how many skills(spell) will be available for each class when they ding max ? how would we unlock the skills? through leveling up or using certain existing skills to unlock new one (likegw2) ? or through questing?

    # Can you give me something regarding gear progression? Because having 40 man raid always gives me the impression that i have to do raids to get shiniest.

    # what's with the goat man? I need to know.

Oh, and our Patch Notes for CBT2 will be going live up for W*W before the forum chat.  That might provoke some discussion.

For those not in the knowzors, some dude leaked our Patch Notes out of CBT1.  So we basically removed the NDA on our patch notes so everyone could discuss 'em, and we'll do Q&As with sites that have put in the efforts to enforce the NDA so that they get more traffic than leakers :).  Cause that's how we roll.

Meaty topics to look for in the notes (they're pretty huge, even though it's only like the last 5 weeks of work):

    New battleground going live

Mentoring and Rallying systems to level with/near your friends

    Level cap bump

    4 new zones enabled

    Dominion access

    Houston (our mod creation tool)

    Billions of class tunings

Including that spell that turns the Esper into a bicorn pooping rainbows as she bounces around the battlefield healing people

    New attribute/milestone system

    Crafting coolness

Housing plugs, including some roleplay-focused plugs

And like 19 pages more of stuff, lotsa bugfixes, tuning, response to tester feedback.

Should be up in a few hours is my understanding (8pmish GMT)

Does Wildstar see Hobbies as something that could be leveraged to impact a players equipment (pve/pvp) or as a play style/time sink?

Hi DaGaffer, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this.. i'm wanting to know if you could give us any insight into what payment method you're thinking of doing for Wildstar & will there be a cash shop?

Unfortunately this kind of decision will massively dictate who will and wont play and both methods can cause issues.. for example being F2P can cause hackers and  bots among other things. On the other hand people don't want to pay a sub fee.. or even have a cash shop.

So i am wondering how you're going to tackle this :)

    Thank you!

If Gaffney can tease the 3pm notes, so can I.

We spoke to Jeremy for about an hour yesterday and have a whole host of goodies on the closed beta progress coming up at 3pm as well. Stay-tuned and digest it all before the AMA!

I love the rapport you all are building with the community.  I love the majority of your ideas for your game(1 weapon type withstanding ;)).

I know with each passing interaction you have I am adding more margin to the margin of error a developer gets when developing a new game.  You are truly making me believe that you WILL make this game be a success!  Look forward to the patch notes and the Q&A!

I got a question and its kinda important for me. Does dodge mechanic in wildstar give you damage immunity frame for the time of the animation, like for example dodge in Neverwinter, or not ?
  • AkaishenAkaishen Member Posts: 12

As a Guild Wars 2 player, I very much dislike the level lowering 'feature'. I understand it's meant to allow players to experience the world and find some form of challenge everywhere. However, it makes me, as the player, feel weak when I should feel powerful (provided that I am). If, for instance, you play Borderlands and you become powerful, weak creatures from the beginning of the game will have different death animations. This makes the player feel great about his or her progression (when something once was hard to kill is now easy to kill).

Your new patch notes states you have a mentor system. How does the mentor system differ from the GW2 system. Will it be mandatory? Will you be able to go to low level areas and easily dispatch creatures that were once challenging, or will you find the world to be challenging no-matter your progression?

The Rallying system is also similar to GW2 in that WvWvW levels everyone to 80. Pros of such a system brings many players to the same PvP (less waiting) and allows players to jump into PvP early if they wish (play your way). The cons of such a system dilutes the value of progressing in the game: why gear grind / farm / and level for PvP when everyone else can have what you have for free? How will this be balanced? Or, is it intended that everyone be as equal as possible for PvP no-matter their game progression (eSport balancing)?

In addition to that last question, or to make it more clear, does WildStar intend to focus on eSports?

(Edit) Another question with the Rallying system, will this be in place for all forms of PvP (outside of open world PvP), as in warplots?

Hope these questions get answered. Thank you for taking the time and keep up the great work on what looks to be an amazing game!

First of all: I'm really looking forward to this game. It looks absolutely amazing.

I signed up for Beta back in late 2011 and I'm wondering if Beta invites are sent out at random, or if you prioritize players who signed up early?

    I'm living in Europe btw.
