Should I come back?

JaldrenJaldren Member UncommonPosts: 363

So, played for 3 months after launch. Left due to the lack of content (2 or 3 raids, don't care about the PvP).

Came back a afew months ago when it went F2P, but seeing that it was unplayable (one skillbar, couldn't play my mains) and almost nothing new, I left after a few hours.

Really enjoyed the stories (imperial agent) and the PvE content (altho there was no easy group finder, so most of the time spent farming).

Really, REALLY big SW fan, so please, give me a valid reason to pay to come back...

Anyone?

EDIT, side question: did they add an in-game shop? P2W?

The Cartel Market serves as an in game shop.

There is a group finder now.

The level cap is now 55 with a new planet.

Several instances and operations have been added.

    Character customization just came out.

Jump in, the water is fine.

You also get 4 skill bars now as a preferred player. Now would be a good time to come back as the final 45 plus gree event is starting for one week only on Tuesday. I quite like the end-game these days but you might want to buy the Makeb expansion , so as you can get to level 55 , it's $20 though for non subbs( $10 for subbs ).

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the replies.

As a preferred, what real life restrictions are there? Also, as in-game shop.. only cosmetics of something that affects gameplay?

  • Sevenstar61Sevenstar61 Member UncommonPosts: 1,686

The best is to try the F2P first, you are preferred player. If you like what you see sub. Asking this forum to help you make a decision to play SWTOR is a recipe for disaster.

Good time to come back to check out Gree event :)

Wow, the maturity levels of the thread went to a new low!

    Congrats!

The whole point was, as Shelvinarr said, to have some feedback from active players. Is there more content? Any cash P2W shop? Endgame still dead?

Those questions are not easily answered from a freebie perspective

  • BadOrbBadOrb Member UncommonPosts: 791

The only two items that border on the P2W side are the colour crystals , they are of various colours and you can equip them at level 10 , they are also the same as end-game crystals . The other thing was that they placed some high level ship parts in the cash shop the same day you could earn them in-game. in a recent cantina tour they have aknowledged that the ship parts was a mistake and won't do it again. Otherwise the cash shop sells mostly fluff items , but if you stay un-subbed you might want to buy weekly passes for wz's, fp's and/or Operations. The later two have had a price cut recently and in the same cantina tour they said they are looking into lowering those 3 restrictions but they don't want to upset the subbs too much so it's complicated.

Also all of the above can be bought /sold on the GTN. So it's possible to play the whole game without spending real $.

No PvW items in cash shop in my opinion. More content - yous.

New expaniosn Rise of the Hutts - $9.99 for suscribers - level rised to 55. New Operation.

Right now SWTOR has 5 operations; Explosive Conflict, Karraga's Palace, The Eternity Vault (these are still level 50) and Terror from Beyond and Scum and Villany (level 55). There is also a little operation on Makeb: Toborro's Courtyard and Gree Event has operation to kill Boss<span event-title"=""> Xenoanalist II

Flashpoints Hard Mode some are now level 50 and some level 55 (Hammer Station, Attiss etc). HM FPS level 55 are worth doing especially for comms and weekly comms rewards.

New interesting quest series for Seeker Droid and Macrobinocular.

    New quest series for HK-51

New Section X daily quests with nice rewards giving basic comms, which are Makeb level.

New customization kiosk, ability to change name, legacy name and guild name was just introduced... you need cartel coins thought to get it. I guess eventually it will be available on GTN as well.

    New endgame content:

    1 raid

    thats it

of course, you have to pay 20$+weekly passes or 25$+sub to access it.

Its actually worse then on launch...

Basic math, 1st grade primary school:

    10+15=25

and yes, you need to continue your sub to have access to it (or buy weekly passes), since its NOT included in your ROTHC "expansion".

Hes asking about ENDGAME, not outdated content thats NOT endgame, since all content there was was "playable" at launch.

So what I am trying to figure out is what do  you have to spend, a month or a year to REALLY try to enjoy this game?

Honestly I wouldn't bother. Went back for 2 months, was somewhat fun for that period of time, got stale fast. Won't be going back again. Only thing that held me that long was the IP.

There's now more to do at end-game than there once was, but I still wouldn't recommend SWTOR for anyone for its end-game. It's still behind its competitors in that area.

SWTOR's strength is its stories, and if you're interested in them I'd recommend buying a month of subscription + the new expansion to see the new content added. It costs 15$ for sub + 10$ for expansion, so total of 25$. If you've got that much money to spend, I think it's worth it just to see the new content. But imho it's not worth it returning for the end-game.

They did add a cash shop, and built it so that if you aren't a subscriber you'll need to use the cash shop to unlock and use things in-game freely or you'll be severely hindered. But if you just buy the subscription, you'll get access to everything worthwhile, and won't really feel at a disadvantage even if you never buy anything from cash shop.

Since subscribers get the new expansion at half the price (10$ for subs, 20$ for non-subs), if you return to see new content it's better to pay the 25$ for a month's sub + expansion than save 5$ and buy only the expansion for 20$. Then you'd be severely hindered if you didn't also use the cash shop to unlock things.

It's more like "free to try" than "free to play"  if you spend more than 2-3 hours a week on this game playing without a sub becomes incredibly frustrating, so I don't recommend trying this game unless you are willing to sub some point in the future.

Some of the stories are excellent though, so might be worth the effort if that's really what you're interested in.

let me add that if you play SWTOR exclusively for the story content, you may want to consider not getting the expansion at all, at least not at first.

i find that i am still playing lower level alts more than the new makeb content because there are no new class stories and i still haven't seen all the class stories yet.

Endgames get stale really fast in ANY game. SWTOR is no exception.

However if you are one of the few who play a game for it's story. then YES come on back. SWTOR Stories (this is opinion of course) kick the arse out of any other MMO out there.

If you spacebar through the scenes then you are not a story player. I do not want to hear about "how boring the story is". If your the kind of player who runs to the quest hub, grabs all the quests without really reading them until you see the markers on the map to find out what you are doing. NO this game is not for you.

If you are a fanatic of Sandbox or SWG, then "in General" NO this game is not for you.

This is a story based Themepark. Re-playability is exactly as you would find in many console games, with the main story arcs being different.

They have added lots of new content Since the OP has last played, Cash shop is mostly cosmetic. Premium credit limit is 350,000 but that is usually easy to make in a day at 50, and you can easily unlock several cartel items/account items a day thanks to most of the cartel Items are on the GTN.

OP since you were once a sub, you have lots of things already active. (350,000 credits being one of them) Since you made it here, a bit of in-game credit grinding gives you almost complete freedom from most restrictions. The credit limit is the only one that really bugs me tbh

15 bucks a month is a much better option.
