You rail against this game, but keep or used to keep Playboy mags in your closet?
I am the husband to a wonderful wife and a father to the most amazing daughter ever. I too agree that the objectifcation of women is in bad taste at a minimum.
But....untill I hear you decry SI and their swimsuit issue, or Playboy, or the GoDaddy.com adds, the claims you make against this or any other game that contains scantily clad women, are lip service paid to the cause. For shame. I say again For shame.
I like most all of what you have to say Bill Murphy, but I lean on a leg of integruity, either stand against all objectification, or hush up.
Nice.

I actually like this concept as much as I enjoyed a special Japanese animation called Geneshaft. Unfortunately I can't agree with you on this entry for several reasons:
1) When a company advertises a game as MATURE, it creates an open field for practically any story, regardless its intensity level without censorship. When a game has a TEEN rating, all the parents and all the authorities are watching the content so very closely that we have to guess where something in the game could have been made cool if it were mature.
This first paragraph is important because in the U.S, a game is MADE TO COVER A RATING like TEEN, while in Europe, China and Japan, a game is made and GIVEN A RATING BASED ON ITS ACTUAL CONTENT WITHOUT CENSORSHIP. I can't stand the idea that game companies say "I want this game to be a TEEN GAME, so lets censor and strip our own GAME until a THIRD PARTY WITH NO POWER who does not have any LEGAL RIGHTS and is dubbed independent gives us our own RATING.
2) The second reason is that if i look at girls only because of bodies and I do not at least see the game, that in itself is a discrimination in itself. Maturity, knowledge and discipline teaches us that the easiest thing to see and easiest thing to draw is a naked human body. The same is true in the way of graphics. Its easy to make a 3D model of a body but much harder to skin and animate it. I'd much rather see how the girls survive in such a universe.
I mean, I saw the profiles of the girls and the bust-size measurement in the profile and half of them were wrong. They also had a girl below a B cup as well...so it wasn't all C - F cups. I was more curious as to why their design came to be in such a form and the mentality behind it on the story-end of things. Like, the assassin character has less height and draws more attention in its design than most assassins in most games. There is also a character class specializing in Melee Area DPS. I wanted something different and after months of BORING guild wars 2 heart quests and that crappy SUPER ADVENTURE BOX, I wanted something more mature.
I give praise to any developer making a Mature video game. Also, are you sure its pure hentai or is it ecchi? I know several guys and girls who like the existence of the game simply because of how American games seem to be attached training wheels prior to release simply because Americans are more afraid of reacting to being pissed than actually releasing a game without censorship. They speak of freedom but restrict anything in their media that would cause a reaction. I for one just handle the content and if I can't handle, I kindly leave elsewhere to the next thing. ^_^
I give praise to any developer making a Mature video game.
I start to wonder whether or not this many SB threads are part of some marketing scheme like the "make one new CU thread in every hour to clogging up the forums" movement was all you see about SB is ads, nudity, censorship, t&a, etc. and not a single word about how mediocre and boring grinder the game is...
I agree with your first point, and the situation is even worse, like when marketing people decide what would be the most profitable rating and they force the director to cut the movie or a screenwriter for a rewrite... so much for artistic integrity (there was a great docu about the pathetic MPAA rating system of US, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/)
For the quote above, you could try some ren'ai games
(I wouldn't even dare to suggest eroge, if those ads make such an uproar around here, I guess people would suffer heart attacks finding out there are a whole genre of "mature" games... lol)
Edit: mediocre and boring grinder - I must add I couldn't get myself to play beyond lvl20, so there is a slight chance that SB turns into a funny, amazing game after that point. But I seriously doubt it
That wasn't what I would call a fair review, I know nothing about the game apart from it containing boobs from what I just read. I wonder if Bill would have made a fair review if the game had some Futanari characters.
Bill, i personally think you are over-reacting abit here. i have just played scarlet blade just now. there was definitely nudity there but the core of the game feels good(gameplay wise). scarlet blade is definitely a triple AAA release and i do agree that the nudity is too much but i play the game with a mindset of "its just a game". who dahell cares if it has nude content so long as i have fun with it. -Prolim123
Why not? If they are going to remake DaoC a game with vast limitations that started the downward slide of guiderail themepark games...why not a game with cleavage...sure didnt hear people rail against Age of Conan with its nipples.
I will wager this game has far more players than TES and Camelot Unchained because more people would even rather play a game with bouncing boobies and meh gameplay than play DaoCs outdated vastly limiting close off faction lands and spoon fed content leading to PvP carrot on a stick.
Once again I am amazed. Games that literally throw blood at the screen and no complaints. But babes in very skimpy bikinis - hang the developers!
My opinion as well. What people choose to be shocked and outraged by always confuses me.
The same happens when talking about 'unrealistic' skimpy armours on girls... never any mention of the fact that a lot of the men are also pretty naked and that arguing 'realism' is kinda silly when your character is probably a dinosaur riding high elf mage.
Illustrated erotica is part of the human condition and has been around since man first scrawled on cave walls... this crusade we see so often to somehow class it as 'juvenile' or unworthy is misguided. Liking a bit of sexy without hang ups is a good thing.
I like to give every game at least a try,i won't judge it solely on the character looks, actually i care little of character looks.
First of all MOST games never look as good as they do in HD pics.Soon you get in ,it looks f2p.
Extremely generic start, your typical wilderness with no reason as to why you are starting there and not from your home.I guess F2P games characters don't have homes, they don't eat or anything, they just stand out in the wilderness looking for NPC's with markers over their heads.
Anyhow no matter.I lasted about 1 hour, then left the game and deleted it.I wasn't even angry or unhappy,it was as i expected,so nothing was a surprise. Not like when i anticipated FFXIV for 5 years only to be extremely disappointed.
Point is you can easily find a better game even in the cash shop industry.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
See,, you guys are looking at this all wrong. They are simply trying to solve the issue of guys alt-tabbing out to look at porn. Now, they don't have to! I wonder if this games supports 1 handed play?
Don't be a hypocrite all these games use sexy ladies to sell their stuff they all have cash shop slutty outfits and they all have exaggerated breasts. get off your high horses you hypocrite
The only time I was offended is the attack on the guy with the wife and kid, and I respect that he wants to protect his family. And thanks to all the posters that made me laugh, there are to many to mention.
Wasn't this game based on the Queen's Blade anime, and then later they changed the name? I thought it was still being advertised as Queen's Blade in Korea. If that's the case then what the hell is the problem? Saying this game is a huge step back for the genre compared to 100's of other shit games that are being produced is a load of BS.
Originally posted by Astralglide See,, you guys are looking at this all wrong. They are simply trying to solve the issue of guys alt-tabbing out to look at porn. Now, they don't have to! I wonder if this games supports 1 handed play?
It's a Korean import, so probably, but not for the reason you're implying. People smoke a lot more in Asia, and so being able to smoke at the same time as you game is an important selling point. That may have been changed for the Western audience though.
Anyway, I was as put off by anyone else, until I remembered the sexy Vulcan advertising for Star Trek Online. Scarlet Blade is only really unique in that they are being direct.
It's still a cr@p game. Without the half naked "women", and lingerie in the cash shop, this game would not even be noticed. Half naked, because apparently you're not allowed to just run around without any clothes on. Go figure.
I will say it's annoying to have to change the size of your browser window for fear of someone seeing the advertising over your shoulder and thinking you're on some sort of soft core pr0n site.
** ** **
Case in point, the ridiculous cleavage on the avatar in the Neverwinter advertising.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I would have to say that feigned indignation at the objectification of women in a video game (pixels on a screen) versus that of commercial ads, movies, and console video game character models is pretty weak.
I have seen these editor's give good ratings to games that I wouldn't play for free, yet whine like school kids over scantily clad female heroine's. Get over your liberal PC childishness and give an evaluation of the game (that is what this site is for correct?). If I wanted a philosophical opinion, I wouldn't use this website!

Maybe you should try working while you are at work then, rather than playing video games. That way you could have some integrity, and not have to wonder about what your boss thinks of you playing a "soft core porn" video game.
Bill is welcome to his pinion and to express it....but we already discussed all this in at least 2 other threads and all that this column has done is bring out the same people with the same arguments. If a non staff member had started this thread it would of been locked or merged with one of the others.
Lol, poor girls. Well when they start contributing to making games then they can make them how they see fit (you play as doctors and lawyers running around in pant-suits right? ). Until then, we run the show, and there will be boobs and butts and lots of them.
Ok this this is what I've gathered from these articles so far
(apparently)
If you are against Scarlet Blade you:
- Are a Morally righteous person who would defend even a perfect stranger from being objectified
- Are a way better gamer than anyone that would show interest in a game that admits it shows skin
- Have never looked at any type of sexual/perverse media
- Have a wife/girlfriend, and would never look at another woman
- Have taste
If you are for Scarlet Blade you:
- Are a deviant pervert, maybe even a pedophile
- Have no life and sticky hands
- Suck at video games and will play one just for boobs
- Live in a relatives basement
- Are a virgin
- Are fat and have a beard full of snack food crumbs (apparently)
- Have more money than you know what to do with
- Have never even talked to a woman
- Will be alone forever
- Have no taste
- Are an adolescent male
- Cannot be a woman
That about sum it up? I really don't care if you don't agree with this, but this is what has been said in this thread. Play the game or don't its your choice, I just think it should get a fair shake for what is in it, not what it looks like, which no reviewer has done so far, I've yet to read a review from someone that I actually believe has played the game for more than 20 minutes. Is the game great? no, Is it ground breaking? no, Does it bring something new to the industry? no, and none of that is surprising, It's F2P. It's just as fun and just as crappy as every other F2P game out there, some parts are good, while others suck. It's just irritating reading reviews from people who have never even played the game. That's like if i came out and reviewed Skyrim, without playing it, and gave it a 4 because I didn't like the character models that I saw in screen shots, and the combat I saw in youtube videos looked lame. If you won't even try a game, you have no right to have an opinion on it, I mean MMORPG.com put it (Scarlet Blade) on the worst MMO's of 2013 list, and they admitted that they didn't even play the game before they put it on the list, That's not journalism, It's called Propaganda.
This article is extremely bias so I find it hard to agree with all points. firstly the game is creating a community for people who have different interests than others. its hard to find a game that has those themes. another point is as u can see it wasn't intended for 5 year olds to play. it is an adult game after all, ment for people who have a specific interest. also is there IS male characters and NPC's so the game isn't entirely female, so you clearly didn't even get to character creation or the first settlement. Personally as someone who is not into this content matter you should not be writing a review. you make the game seem shoddy and something it is not. if it isn't your thing don't put others off of trying it by giving it a review saying you don't like its content. you SHOULD be writing about the gameplay, skills and the pro's and con's. not simply saying its stupid and providing invalaid points. reviews are ment to provide an HONEST look into the gameplay. I think its a great game which is opening a new place for gamers with diffrent interests. to sum everything up, I would say im giving you a negative review of your review. was not accurate in information, bias, and was lacking in content.
