Am I missing something here? After the post kickstarter holiday there hasn't really been much communication from CSE apart from an mmorpg interview by MJ and one update on the kickstarter page (I stand to be corrected if I missed something out)

Now, has there a KS-Backers forum already been established and I somehow managed to miss it or is there another strand of communication somewhere else?

I'm a tad disappointed by the lack of feedback by CSE at the moment.

He has your money now, why would he continue the hypetrain at this point?

I did battle with ignorance today, and ignorance won.

To exercise power costs effort and demands courage. That is why so many fail to assert rights to which they are perfectly entitled - because a right is a kind of power but they are too lazy or too cowardly to exercise it. The virtues which cloak these faults are called patience and forbearance.

    Uhm. No.

But why hype something that is funded instead of working on it?

If you read what was said previously by MJ you would know that they are concentrating on getting the backer's forums up and running. Once they are working most (not all) communication will be done there.

the game is years away hopefully they are working on it.

Even once the backer forums are up, communication from CSE might be a lot less frequent than many would hope for, especially in the early going. Hopefully it will be better than a title such as DF.

They are still very active on kickstarter's chat.  They just stopped posting here, because only backers can see that chat i believe.

This is not the reason. They likely are not prepared for the community yet. Forum software is very easy to install, create boards, and then assign groups and other settings. I suspect they will use either vbulletin, xenforo, or ipb since most mmo forums do. My bet is on vbulletin although I prefer xenforo.

Seriously? Did you actually listen to what mark said during that very recent interview? MJ clearly stated the first priority for communication is getting the backer forums up and running. He also stated that he has to obtain everybody's contact information first because kickstarter did not give them that info. Finally, MJ also stated that they are going to be doing MAYBE one update a week, if that sometimes because they have to actually make this game that many of us are pumped for. So take a chill, listen to the info that was provided and wait for email from CSE.

As has been mentioned above Mark is very active on KS comments section still. They just aren't doing video updates interviews right now as some of those kinds of conversations will be backers board exclusive.

Why the silence? Well I can give you a rough timeline of what they had going on and what they will be doing for the next few weeks based on Marks comments.

    • Right after the last 36 hour KS marathon finale Mark gave them all off for a week or 10 days or something. They returned last monday the 13th from said vacation.

    • When they returned Mark updated they had 2 weeks worth of work to do on the March on Oz update that was due prior to going full bore into CU. They actually had a few day stint during the KS campaign where they went off the radar a bit because of a MOO update.  He said the updates for CU would be slow for about 2 weeks.

    • On the 13th Mark said his target to get the backers forums going was the following Monday the 20th. He said it would take time due to getting all the emails from KS and the survey prepared as they can only do 1 survey with a completed KS. He also said he would trickle people into the forums over a week or so to ensure they don't blow up and due to the time it takes to get the info required.

    • Today the 22nd the backers forums were launched. A day later than expected but not the end of the world. A limited amount of people were given invites today. No real rhyme or reason to who got invited just a test to throw out before the surveys go out I guess. He said today that his hopes are everyone is invited to the backers forums by next week. Oh and Don't email him asking for access.

So thats your timeline of where everyone is and whats going on.

It hasn't been long at all. Also I would imagine that the next time they reveal any information it will, or 'should' be when they are satisfied with it. I would much rather they were thorough and made sure everything they worked on has a firm foundation, both with the Lore they are conceiving alongside the Art direction. Although the Kick Starter phase was interesting and allowed a barrage of varying opinion, it is they who have to ultimately make the serious and solid decisions, doing it day by day on display or even fortnightly would become a nightmare, albeit impossible. Even creating a simple presentation or film takes time and potentially takes the 'eye off the ball'.

I think with a bit of breathing space it would be great to think they could really boost 'general' interest with some more fully rounded and clearly defined footage that could convert many others who as of yet haven't demonstrated their interest in the game yet.

I bet CSE's Hamster Wheel is spinning quite nicely .....

Surprising that so many players ar ein an uproar when that game is apparently still in open beta, thus not officially released yet.
Players do not understand the meaning of the word BETA in game development, they play and complain like it is the released game already.

But with CU, there's a lot to do when you have the money to start building on a game, hiring staff, making plans, get a studio, get financers, make ads for the game....ofc the official site with the announcement, there's a ton of things to do.

Indy developers, love em. Think out of the box and mostly not corrupted by the big companies yet.

Let me do some research for you...

Taken from the Kickstarter update #45 (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/13861848/camelot-unchained/posts):

"Second, over the next few weeks our studio’s main goals are opening up the Camelot Unchained forums and also finishing up the ports of March on Oz™ to select Android devices, including the Kindle and Ouya."

"Our forums will be up soon and that is the best place for such discussions going forward. Also, after Monday please send any support questions to kickstartersupport@citystateentertainment.com as I will turning my focus (hopefully) to our backer forums going forward! I'll still be reachable through here but it will not be the most efficient way to reach me."

"Finally, and most importantly, we hope to have our forums open on Monday for friends, family and select ducklings. I’ll be sending out invitations through KS to some of our most active posters so that they can join us in our efforts. Once we are sure that the forums are relatively stable I’ll send out the Kickstarter survey and get all the information that we need to get all of you into the forums. Please do not send me an email asking for early access to the forums, it both won’t help me get through the email pile any faster and it won’t get you in any earlier. We just need some warm bodies to throw at the forums and confirm that our code/updates to the forum software we are using isn’t making things go boom! I don’t plan on spending much time talking there until after the forums open to everybody."

You also use the BETA status for legal reasons. If you fail, you cannot be hold accountable for your mistakes, because it is an unfinished project. On the other hand, you can already purchase ZEN for real money, making the BETA status a bit contradictory.

On the topic at hand, public backers mean responsibilities to them for MJ. But he should not feel pressured to give daily updates. This would poison the connection to the fans and hinder the overall outcome. Chill a bit.

The rapid communications was an attempt to garnish supporters. Now that its done there is no reason to communicate much at all. Development takes time, and since they have the money, there is little point in bothering to speak out for it.

Doesn't mean it won't turn out good, mind you, but its silly to bother conversing with the people who funded them outside maybe a few random updates to keep hype up. Its not like investors giving constant streams of money wanting to see progress, they have just no reason to bother throwing information out. Now on, most of what they will pitch will be little snip its or small updates. The thing you most likely will see from them is trying to build up hype, and likely once the game is further in.

Ok, so two sources of info I hadn't been aware of:

    - Kickstarter chat still going on

    - Backer forums up today

Thank you very much, that was actually all the info I had hoped for.

(not necessarily in a bad-scumbag way)

im waiting for the forums tbh. hopefully us 5$ donors will be able to vote and suggest.

and when they decide on the targeting, combat, and physics of the game, i'll pre-purchase it.

(if there's no full enemy and ally collision, thats a dealbreaker for me.

cause i know how it can potentially ruin mass-pvp/ collision is a must, for both allies and enemies.)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

At some point, Mark has to stop spending time on press releases and spend time on game, yes?

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

This. MJ is definitely too busy beating up pornstars and sniffing coke right now to post updates. Most assuredly.
