Let me list off what few other games do that Darkfall does:

FPS

Full loot

Player items are the best - no dungeon raiding for l33t sword of stupidness

City sieges with real destructible items that cost to rebuild.

True player driven economy - no developer driven prices, no developer driven inflation (look at GW2 for dev driven inflation)

Destructible boats and real piracy

Progression is fast

AV has more info going to its players than any other game developers game (amazing communication in comparison to almost every other game on the market) - Crazy improvement over where they used to be.

It's on STEAM and is the first game that you can pay the monthly fee through Steam!

It has a monthly fee to keep the game fair (no pay to win)

Small dev team that actually listens to its players!  Prowess system was player driven idea, not developer.  Who else would change the fundamentals of the game for players?

Fast on support tickets.  Get answers within hours.

Player driven politics and clan warfare.  Strong enough clan can claim territory if they wanted by physical means (kill everyone)

Safe zones for new players.

I could go on and on with the good things... however I have to go to my city to remove people that are camping it with my clan.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I bought the game once already, have no intentions of paying full price for it again. Maybe if the price drops to what a sub costs I will try it and see what has changed but til then have fun.

Darkfall is like Guild Wars.  Darkfall Unholy Wars is like Guild Wars 2.   It is a totally new game.  You also missed the discount that was up for 6 months during beta.  AV is a small company so its up to you to support someone trying to do something against the grain.

Sorry your comparison fails as GW1 is still running. Not a new game a reworked game. And no I wasn't interested in paying a sub to play their beta.

    Uhm, it died already.

DF1 died, DFUW was a quick reboot in an attempt for a cash grab, using 80% re-used assets and re-charging owners of DF1.

So yeah, it will die. I say two years this time around. Maybe three if they clean up their act.

They are fucked though. IF they go F2P, their hardcore fanbase will desert them and it will die.  If they don't, their small fanbase will dwindle and the sub fees won't be enough to keep up with the costs.

Im playing and loving darkfall.. The risk vs reward gives you more of a thrill for pvp than any other game out there.  Is it perfect? No but its still the best pvp / crafting game out there atm and I really hope the game grows in the future and more content gets added.

True, but what most ppl don't know is that AV killed DFO. They announced a server wipe way too early. Why the hell would you play an mmorpg when it's gonna get wiped out? By too early, i mean 1 year before the server finally shut down and everyone were waiting for a wipe all that time. The most stupid announcement that a company can come out with.

They never fixed anything. It took them 3 months to fix a stamina bug. It took them nearly 3 years to finally reduce the grind to let everyone enjoy the end game. It created an other problem, gold and resource inflation. We only had a problem with character grind, not economy grind. It was too easy to make 100k gold because of that and too easy to harvest a lot of good shit like weapon/armor drops, portal shards, rune stones and and a lot more. It was useless to capture a village since we already had too much gold in our bank. With too much gold, they killed their own economy since selling anything for gold was a waste.

but 1 -2 month later after that grind reduction, the game got shut down and we finally realized that all that time, they were working on an other game. that's the real reason DFO died,.

I was coming to say this. Aventurine can screw themselves for wanting to pay full price for the game after already having done so.

Errrr, wrong.  You lost the argument when you stated FPS and Full loot.  Those 2 factors alone make any game using them suck beyond all compare.  Not that FPS is bad, but in a fantasy game of swords and magic I just never enjoyed FPS in that setting.  Especially considering true FPS is never to be found in any FPS game ever.  Peripheral vision ring a bell? yeah it doesn't exist in FPS games making FPS not very realistic at all.

Full loot just makes me hate losing my items and eventually hate playing the game.  While it has it's benefits if you are the winning party, it completely sucks from a pve and gear progression standpoint and doesnt' belong in MMORPGs in it's current form.

Oh, yeah and since I already paid full price for the game a year or 2 ago, charging me again is a no no.  I'm not even going to bother trying this again on that premise alone.

Another person that missed the pre-order deal (game + 1st moth = sub price). Also, there isn't any PvE gear progression in Full Loot games. Thats the point. We don't like PvE gear grind treadmills. I quit GW2 because they added gear grind tread mills in content funneling.

DFO died when population dropped to a level where player politics became nothing more than an ego fest. So basically 3 months after NA launch.

Square Enix. Big publisher. I know, I know, not a fair comparison.

However, they're releasing FFXIV ARR. Which is the same thing DFUW is to DF1. All owners of FFXIV get FFXIV ARR & 1 to 3 months of free gametime, depending on what package they had for the first game.

Square Enix is a publisher for a reason. They don't screw fans.

Well except he made a lot of good valid points, some i agree with some not so much. You instead made just a VAGUE statement "it is terrible".

I think the problem with gaming in general is "expectations".

We have varied expectations, some want WOW,some want instances, some want linear questing, some want f2p ,when in reality they SHOULD realize what DFUW is doing, accept it or don't.

It is not going to be a massive PVE experience,it is not going to be hand holding,it is not going to be fast linear questing to end game then everyone hits up instances 24/7.

it is a PVP game with open world ,looks better than Df1.The op did make some good valid points as well which adds to what the game is trying to do.Personally i am not into pvp rpg's but i can see what the game is trying to do.

Look at some facts..CCP could not deliver on their game, they had more problems than Tasos did trying to release his product. What do these  kick starters have?NOTHING,just a bunch of talk,Tasos took this company with his own money  and imo did an admirable job.

You can look even further at WOW,Blizzard has made millions, they still do not own a quality game engine and they still outsource porting to console and had to license the Titan project game engine.Blizzard made all those millions and not put one single thing back into the game.Tasos took his profits,i am sure  they were not that much and reinvested it into DFUW,i think he deserves some credit for effort and not just running with the money, like other devs do.

Tasos also was not misleading,he said long ago that this would have to be rushed out or players would stop waiting.I truly believe he will put his heart into this game weather it is your cup o tea or not.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

That is the problem that Aventurine will have to overcome.  Once they went down the path of killing off DF1, they have to re-gain the trust of their players that they won't do the exact same thing to DF:UW.  Especially considering that the main spokesman for Aventurine... Tasos - isn't exactly regarded as someone a player can trust.

For some players they will never give Aventurine another chance.  That is the trade-off that Aventurine made when they decided to kill DF1.  image

Hmmm...let's see.  They go for 3 years with a certain amount of character progression, they reduce it, and their game promptly dies.  I'm thinking character progression was never the problem.

My DF 1.0 character was competitive (and occasionally killed gankers) about 3 to 4 months after I started playing.  And a year after I started playing, the heavily geared, heavily-grinded metagamers were complaining about the "zergs," meaning they were getting beat by semi-naked less-developed lower-skilled players simply because those people had higher numbers.

Sounds just about perfect to me.

Want to know why I'm not going to play DFUW?  Because of you.  Yep, you and everyone like you.  You don't want to play a game, you want to "beat" it.  RPGs are not for beating, they are only for playing.

So either DFUW is an RPG with the wrong type of players, or its not really an RPG or an MMO - and is merely a really mediocre FPS deathmatch.  Either way, it's not on my radar.
