I want this game to do well even though I don't play

eye_meye_m Member UncommonPosts: 3,317

I'm not interested in this game. Maybe I'm too old, or too married to even have the inclination to try. I'm just not part of their demographic and that is perfectly fine.  I do want it to do well, or at least well enough to hopefully bring about a little change in some perspectives.

The first perspective I want changed is that NA avoids mature or adult rated games.  I remember when Rockstar was in hot water over the "hot coffee" easter egg. I remember reading about how if the title was to keep the easter egg in it, then it would need to be ESRB rated at mature or adult, and as a policy EB games does not sell or distribute those types of games.   As an adult, I find this sort of thing unreasonably priggish.

The second perspective can't be changed until the first has been changed.  Sexual innuendo, nudity, gross violence, alcohol, drugs, and all the rest of those "adult" things can be used in a moderated manner to make a respectable mmorpg.  Take for instance Age of Conan. There was partial nudity, and some over the top violence, yet it didn't seem like a creepfest to play.   If it wasn't for a few basic things that I didn't like with the game, I would still be playing it.  I want to see more  games take this approach and provide content that feels adult.

So fare ye well Scarlet Blade, and may you open minds of the producers as well as the Kleenex box beside the computer.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

Scarlet Blade being a success would just be proof that sex sells.  Why should developers spend millions trying to create a quality experience when they can just throw in some busty naked women instead?  I think it would actually be bad for the genre if Scarlet Blade turned out to be a smashing success.

I agree that adult themes can be used to create a better experience, but Scarlet Blade is just a cheap cash grab.  Do you really want a bunch of cheap sexualized cash grab games dominating the industry?  I don't want that...

Scarlet Blade's use of anime sex symbols as a marketing tool is anything but mature.  It's precisely its very juvenile nature that has put so many people off.  It comes off as a cheap gimmick that plays to the 14 year old adolescent boy in us all.

What the OP is talking about seems to be Game of Thrones style sexuality and violence.  Scarlet Blade doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Game of Thrones in terms of adult themes and maturity.

Nobody needs proof that sex sells, and there is going to be bunch of cheap sexualized cash grab games no matter what, just like there is going to be a bunch of cheap fantasy cash grab games, and cheap vampire cash grab games, and cheap whatever type of games.  I just want to see quality developers have their hands untied,  so to speak.

Just like there are already a ton of cheap sexualized cash grab games?  People copy what's successful and there hasn't been a successful game like Scarlet Blade yet.  You're mistaken if you think this is the time and Scarlet Blade is the place for any kind of revolution.

Pretty much this and well said. Sex and violence in the right context makes sense and should be defended. The Scarlet Blades of the world are mediocre products that use sex to cover up the fact that is is a mediocre product. No amount of anime soft porn will change that. That being said, I defend their right to make mediocre games aimed at 14 year olds. I abhor censorship of any kind... you take the good with the bad.

I honestly don't know anything about the gameplay in Scarlet Blade, so I can't judge that. I also don't know anything about Game of Thrones but I will look into it.  I would just like to see more games cater specifically to adult audiences with adult content, and the industry seems to avoid that.

There was a Game of Thrones MMORPG licensed but it appears to be either vapourware or stuck in development hell, at least there's been no news for a while, the game website hasn't been updated this year (and with the third series of the TV having a week left to run they're missing an opportunity to type it).

As for Scarlet Blade -- while like others I'm amused by the hypocrisy of some of the attacks on it -- no. Fanservice nudity & sexual innnuendo per se I have no particular problem with -- hell, I've played a few actual eroge (so people talking about SB as "porn" or "hentai" tends to prompt a "You keep using that word . . ." reaction) -- we already have enough utterly generic grindfest MMO games cluttering the market. Given that Shaiya appears to be still running, I doubt SB is going to crash and burn any time soon, though.

Good thread. As an old fart, I can say that the in game ladies have nothing in common with a real human female. It's actually so over the top that I really don't see the uproar.

The different classes have some interesting fighting mechanics, different chains and combo's.

At it's core it's just some software, if you try it and don't like it cool, but I dunno about some bashing without even trying ?

Have a good one everybody, and be good to each other.
