[Interview] EVE Online: Opening Up On Odyssey and EVE-VR

EVE Online has expanded a whopping eighteen times and is poised for the next with the arrival of Odyssey later this summer. We sat down to chat with CCP's Kristoffer Tourborg about Odyssey. See what he had to say and then head to the comments!

Given the name, Odyssey is all about exploration. There are a lot of upgrades coming with the new expansion but the biggest area of revamp is getting out into the galaxy and finding new areas. Kris explained that a lot of players had been logging into EVE excited about this element of the game only to soon logoff unhappy about the level of content surrounding exploration. Therefore Odyssey addresses this area first hand. It gives players some amazing tools: such as new spacecraft designed for discovery, a sensory overlay to enhance your search of different areas, and an upgrade to basic probe technology which gives new players a much easier boost to search for resources.

Nice tease... maybe?  Dog fighting in Eve?  IMO if they brought that to eve that would make fights for small ships so much fun!

Real exploration?  always wanted them to enhance this too!

    Sounds like things to come!

Am I the only one who is stoked for the TV show?

There are two kinds of people in this world. People who pick their nose.. and liars.

I'm a little under whelmed. It's good stuff, but I would really love to see them flesh out other aspects of the game like the PvE, which is pretty boring. Sure keep making PvP as fun as possible, but maybe could you also make all the aspects of your game more fun? =( I want to like EVE, but I don't want to PvP all the time. But then when I'm not I just get bored because the non-PvP pieces of the game are so dull. If they spiced those areas up a bit I would stay subscribed.

EvE TV show, oh my god I can't wait!!!

After having read all "their" books I really am looking forward to see some epic series.

Let's hope they'll end up using better CGI than Defiance does though :) However I have confidence in CCP.

I always wanted to get into Eve, but it failed to grab me so many times.  Not the game's fault, just not my cup-o-tea.  It's a shame because everything about it screams for me to love it such as sci-fi, space ships, and pvp.  Maybe they will incorporate this dog fighting into the game in a way similar to Dust 514, such as a stand alone game.  However, Dust 514 blows for so many reasons.

I would love to play in the Eve universe again if I could actually "fly" a ship/small fighter in dogfight style combat.

You totally forgot about the best part of this update, the revamp of the POS structures, they're adding in a hangar and a ship maintenance bay that act like the Planetary Customs Office.  Also the ability to access ammo bays in all turrets from within the POS shields!

I stay with eve forever. There is no  game with such awesome gamer community  as in Eve. Even dust players are friendly. They will blow you up at any moment but when you need help you get it on every corner. Game with best help channels  around. Can't  wait for ''wing commander'' simulation combat, exploration ship is first what i will buy

I agree with this 100% and I've played Eve for many years.

For example, the main reason why Darkfall Unholy Wars is so unpopular is because it's all PvP.

You need a lot of PvE in any MMORPG to make it truly mainstream and popular. For example, WoW is 95% PvE.

Nope.  I'm excited for this.  Just hope it has awesome acting and production quality.  Wonder which channel it will be on.  Would be awesome to be on like HBO or Showtime so it could be adult in nature and not mired in network television rules.  Something like Game of Thrones, or spartacus but set in Eve's universe, that would rock.

I think they are talking about using plex to train the 2nd toon on an account.
