Some advice for DFUW

mgilbrtsnmgilbrtsn Member EpicPosts: 3,430

I thought I would start a thread for advice for noobs.  I've only been playing for a couple of weeks, so I'm a noob myself, but I thought I would share some tricks that I have learned.  Hopefully some more experience players will chime in.

1)  There is a learning curve, so if you are new to the game, give it a bit.

2)  Mounts can be stolen.  I learned that the hard way.  Left my steed out while I was at the bank.  When I got finished, my mount was gone.

3)  Raising stats is just as important, if not more, than raising skills.

4)  When harvesting, go way out into the middle of nowhere.  Much less likely of running into someone than close to cities.

5)  You make noise when harvesting as well as people on mounts headed your way.  Keep a listen out and duck when you hear them near.

6) You can change your role if you want to.  I went from Skirmisher to Primalist.  You do take a step back though, because your skill increases were for your old role.

7) When trading, always do it in a safe zone.

Thats all I can think of right now.  I'll update as I learn other things.

100% correct anyone wanting to try darkfall needs to give it time.

    2)  Mounts can be stolen.  I learned that the hard way.  Left my steed out while I was at the bank.  When I got finished, my mount was gone.

    Yup those buggers LOL

    Yes

    4)  When harvesting, go way out into the middle of nowhere.  Much less likely of running into someone than close to cities.

Just stay in the safe zones as its 100% safe.. or if they have already been all used up then yes get as far away from people as possible.

    5)  You make noise when harvesting as well as people on mounts headed your way.  Keep a listen out and duck when you hear them near.

Yes remember its temping to go AFK when harvesting but only do this in safe zones..

    6) You can change your role if you want to.  I went from Skirmisher to Primalist.  You do take a step back though, because your skill increases were for your old role.

    7) When trading, always do it in a safe zone.

Same for crafting no need to do anything related to crafting or trading outside of the safe zone.. Safe Zones have broke DF but you may as well use them.

excellent list but if i could add a couple...

    a) Join a clan as soon as you're comfortable doing so.

b)if you are having trouble getting iron ingots, try killing goblins in the safe zone and salvaging their stuff.

    c) when salvaging, you can stick all the stuff you want to salvage in a bag, then just salvage the bag.  you even get to keep the bag and you dont have to sit there and hit salvage 45 times.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Don't play it especially if you are looking for large scale PvP. This game is nothing like DF1 for PvP, it sucks and is all about the PvE grind. Gives Dark Fall a bad name!

We just can't have a helpful thread without someone complaining.  There are plenty of threads for that, GET OUT!

When you're outside of a safe zone farming, always have a bag on you. When you are ready to bank your loot, put everything inside the said bag (including your gear, mount, tools), recall to your chaos stone, run to the bank ASAP and put the bag in it. If you try to drag every individual stack of loot to your bank, it'll take time and you'll have a greater chance of getting ganked with some loot still on you.

Also always take a skinning knife and a shovel when you go farm mobs. Mid to high lvl mobs have a very slow spawn rate so you'll have time to skin everything you kill and then dig a couple times before the next wave of mobs spawns.

My tip: If you can log in before 9am and you will actually get help in general chat, and not just trolling. At roughly 9am there seems to be a shift change and the trolls come out. :)

Make sure you phrase your question to sound like a hopeful noob and any non-trolls will bend over backwards to help you no matter the time of day.  The trade spam and multiple converstations/trolling later in the day make it harder to spot legitimate questions.  If you get one answered follow-up with another don't wait until the helpful people tune out chat again.

I had a love hate relationship with DFUW, but I will admit this, the game has seriously grown on me.

After my first group pvp fight, I was hooked.

    My advice to new players:

    Practice practice practice.

Duel with clan mates as often as possible. My survivability went up tenfold when I mastered the jump shot on my skirmisher. My effectiveness went up tenfold when I mastered my targetting on my Primalist.

    Stats are important

    5 points in a role's stat = +1 dmg

    20 points in a skill = +1 dmg

If it's cheaper to raise your skill for that +1 then do it, if it's cheaper to just boost your core stat, then do that instead, or if it's cheaper to invest in a stat booster,  do that.

Grab your role's first 2 boosters ASAP

If you are a warrior, and just got your first load of prowess points, buy your first two strength boosters.

Before deciding on your primary role, ask clan mates on their opinion. Look up videos. Read up on the forums. You will save yourself a lot of steps back by doing this.
