Recent Game of Thrones episode - spoiler if you haven't seen it.

Sunday's episode was overly graphic. After some research, I found that this part of the books alienated a lot of readers. HBO, rather than softening the impact, amplifes it. HBO are to thank for the murders of Frey's young wife, Rob's wife and her unborn child.

In the book:
1. Catelyn kills Frey's son (the court jester), not Frey's young wife.
2. Rob's wife is not at the feast and is not killed.
3. Rob's wife may or may not be pregnant; the story is intentionally ambiguous.

HBO's additions are unconsionable. Now, consider that the scene is overly gory and much time is spent showing blood spray and slit throats and the violent and bloody stabbing of Rob's wife. HBO's poor judgement wreaks of stupidity; and stupidity, moreso than anything else, drives viewers away.

In conclusion, HBO really dropped the ball and they should apologize at least, or reshoot the scene to more closely follow the book. But of course HBO won't do either, and season four (which is in production) will be this show's last. Readers of the books don't mind the scene as much, but I don't think book fans, alone, can sustain the series.

In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

A few days ago I read a report that said one of the actresses (un named) from the show had told HBO that she will no longer do any nude scenes.

I wonder if the Actress who plays Rob wifes was her? Writen out without possibility of return ?

Doubtful as what other nude scenes would she do when Robb dies at the wedding anyhow, but I am not that far into the books yet to see if she makes an appearance after all this goes down so maybe I am wrong.

And to the OP, they seemed to start out the whole series by changing things for example the young ranger- Will that found the dead wilding camp wasn't the one executed by Ned Stark for desertion he was killed by the young knight Ser Waymar Royce after Royce changed into one of the others. It was the older guy Gared that was executed by the Starks. Honestly I don't know why they make stupid changes like this when it does seem they are staying pretty close to the books.

That's a huge change from the books. So she is still alive as of the last one?  Hope she doesn't have a major role later on if so.

I doubt the show is in any danger. Just for a frame of reference.   It's probably one of, if not the most  torrented  show out there.  More hits per weak than most movies have. Unless HBO has said that season 4 was always the last season planned, it's probably pretty safe.

Not sure what planet you're living on bud but the episode appears to have been almost entirely well received. The changes big and small just upped the shock value which is always a welcome thing when most shows these days will predictably shy away from unhappy endings. The non-readers seem to have the same love-hate relationship with it that the readers had. As for the longevity of the show, the last I heard was it'll likely run for 6-7 seasons depending on how the books go.

If you want to complain about something, you should complain about the completely unnecessary soft porn sex scenes scattered about. Sure I enjoy it as much as the next guy, but sometimes you have to wonder if it isn't a little too much.

Op you are kidding yourself if you think this will have a negative impact on ratings. If anything, all this talk will probably up the viewership. People are not even all that upset like they were when Ned was killed and that didn't hurt ratings either. HBOs show Boardwalk Empire received similar nerd rage when they killed off Jimmy. Again.. didn't hurt ratings for that show either even though message boards were filled with ragequit threads.

I never understood why people get upset when things change from the books. Are you really that obsessed with the books you can't stand small changes to the plot? It is small changes. The wife is pretty irrelevant in the books after this part and could easily be written off

Alive at last report, but irrelevant

She was never really a character in the books, just a young woman in the background without a fleshed out personality that Robb randomly shows up with. As a noncharacter, and someone who is now completely irrelevant to the "game", she just kind of fades to the background, and at least so far, isn't heard from again, probably never will be.

The TV series gave her a personality to identify with, and a significantly greater role in the story. Of course, this meant that simply fading out was no longer an option, making her death far more likely.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

This makes me wonder about other minor changes that they have made, I'm currently reading the books but not that far in.

It seems like it won't make an impact on the overall story and I'm sure that they wouldn't make a decision that would destroy the future story.

Not that big of a deal then. I've been meaning to read the books so that I could pick up on things a bit easier when clearly somethings going on. Probably will this summer. For instance, It was obvious Catelyn was upset when the one music piece started playing. She knew it was over. I just wasn't sure why that one piece of music told her so. Had to go online to find out.

On a lighter note, given all the the fame GRRM is getting from the show I am surprised he's still taking his sweet time with the final two. Going to be a shame if he passes away and doesn't finish.  I don't wish any harm to him. Just the reality of things.  He's getting up there in age and seems to take him a long time to finish a book.

Honestly, I don't know why anyone watches this. I have seen a few episodes with friends, I hear from them what's going on... and sorry it's just sex and blood. A sort of re-barbarization of humanity, when people regard such... colourful stories as good entertainment. A backwards development of a once refined humanity to a state of primitives. That's what I see.

Not really. There's plenty of both in the series however they are no where near the main attractions to the show, for me at least. Actual battle scenes in the show really are few and far apart. It's about power grabs and politics. Plots, plots and more plots.  Same as politics in the real world. Everyone playing the game of power grabs and plotting. Some will do anything for it while others won't. People who fail at the game end up dead.  Much like history.

One of the shows strongest features for me is that there are no safe characters. You know the ones in just about every other movie or show that are established from the word go that we know will be around at the end to live/die while saving the day.  There's not even really anyone I'd consider to be a Hollywood version of the good guy. Closest one that fit that bill lost his head in season 1. Mainly because he was naive.

There's a lot of character development.  Jamie for instance or Baelish.  In short Baelish what appeared to be someone who just owned a brothel is smart as a tac and probably one of the best players of the game. No one suspects him as of yet really.. Well I take that back. One group probably does at this point. Not to mention he is one evil sob. Something which I would of never guessed from the first two seasons. The only person he wouldn't of killed was Catelyn and I'm not even completely sure about that. However that really wasn't established until recently, how truly dark the character is.

Maybe someone else can explain it better.  I haven't read the books and not really spoiling anything by what I have said in this post. It's only stuff that's developed so far in the series. Lot more going on other than sex and blood though. Given the setting both are to be expected expected, no?

The OP needs to go read the book version of the Red Wedding..the HBO version is tame in comparison.

    No.

it was powerful, and well executed.  This is a premium cable show in a universe full of brothels and bloodshed. This scene was graphic, sad, and utterly tragic...but it belonged in the show.
