Age of Wushu IS a low quality game pumped out by the asian f2p pc cafe industry.
Apparently giving your opinion in this forum results in claims of "trolling", so if you just want to hear agreements then this will have to be deleted as well because I will say it again, articulated a bit differently.
You have to understand something. When f2p is part of the business model, good game design takes a back seat to money making design. This gets worse when you realize where these games are made and the gaming culture found within that region. These games are what I would consider "junk". Why? Because their design docs are no where near what you would expect from a western game being developed. These come from studios whose goal is to pump out new titles as though it were a factory, then sell these f2p cookie cutter, low effort, low budget, games to publishers who distribute them in a localized manner. Their goal is to generate income from the f2p hoppers and then get closed as the next one is released.
Additionally, you have a theme that does not fit the western audience mentality. They cannot relate to these visual and cultural cues outside of a few kung fu movies with horrible dubs on western tv. It would be like trying to sell a game about colonial america to the chinese. Their audience couldnt relate to it in the same fashion.
So when you mix crappy game quality limited by a thoughtless f2p design model and a theme clearly not aimed at western audiences...
Why then be surprised when such games dont do well outside of their own region? I would advocate common sense and objective reasoning in this case.
Generally speaking, since gamers have become over saturated by the mmorpg genre...they have come to expect more. It is a harder genre to sell and generally requires more risk along with the reward.
Conclusion: No AoW is not a good example of why sandbox titles dont do well in the west, and yes sandbox titles have a higher success rate in the west then they do in Asia. There is even a documentary and even thesis papers which discuss the habits of gamers in different regions and for the most part asian gaming expectations generally conforms to more linear play experiences and online gaming built around renting time in social PC cafes.

Dude the game is not for everyone. It surely doesn't see to be for you, you don't have to lie though, mean spirited lies at that. It makes wonder why.

Ok, let me show you how this is supposed to be done. You don't like Star Wars? I could care less. I don't reply to every negative post like you are doing. Look at how many post you have made in this one topic and for what? If you like the game then enjoy it and stop being a rabid fanboy in full defense mode when you see a person that does not like this poor excuse for a mmo.
No it's fine you don't like. I think it's really good actually, just don't lie. I just wanted people to know where your opinion is coming from.
Here is a 38 minute video talking about the Wushu sandbox.
You still don't get it. Nobody cares about your video. We have played the game so why the hell would we need to watch a video? . I was one of the first people to actually promote this game back when it was in beta. Since you checking post history if you go further back you will see I did a full post on all the schools in Age Of Wushu.

quests? using TAB Oo? guys which such big experience shouldnt even post in this topic
I see many sandbox experts, can any of You show definition of sandbox? From what I know even in minecraft You wont make everything Yourself as You cant write scripts and make models from 0.
Some time ago I have posted in one of topcis here that once in video about other game dev said that its sandbox coz we chose what we want to do, same its in AoW I decide how I want to get exp, and even if I wouldnt want gain exp and would just concentrate on professions I would still get exp, I dont have to grind or do quests like in themepark
We see so many people on these forums clamoring for sandbox titles yet there is barely any support for this title. Why not?
Sandbox or not it remains an asian cash shop MMO and many sandbox lovers like myself (I imagine) won't go anywhere near it for that reason alone. Also the setting is very unconventional, most westerners aren't really into playing a virtual kung fu game in ancient China. People are used to their middle ages setting with orcs and elves and that's what they want.
Agreed, the setting put me off completlely , altho some of AoW mechanics seem very interesting and i would like them , the setting is terrible to me ...Wont touch this game..

So GW2 is a sandbox now because you can gain EXP through professions and harvesting?
Definition does vary for sandbox, but in my opinion sandbox is any game where the players are given the tools to have a direct impact on the world itself. The analogy is in the name itself, a sandbox, where you are given the tools to create things based on your imagination. Sandbox features include things like building structures (and destroying them), terraforming landscape, ability to permanently kill NPCs and effect monster ecology, grow objects that other players can harvest, modify rules within the game, etc.
If we start calling a sandbox game any game that allows player freedom then we have to say all MMOs are sandboxes since none of them force the player to do anything. Most MMOs are completely non-linear.

ah I see. You feel that minecraft is a true sandbox. I agree with you. AoW is not a sandbox in that sense, neither is EVE though.

Pure win.
The war was epic tonight. Out numbered 2-1 Feedz lead Wanderer's to 1% away from taking Emei's treasure. I recorded the whole thing.
50 (50 elsewhere) of us nearly pulled it off against 150 Emei, Scholar, and Wudang.
Player driven battles of 300+ that are decided by tactics. Not bad if you ask me
edit- I went back in after typing this, and I had a pm from a guy I invited to our raid. I asked him if he enjoyed himself he said "Reminds me of the glory days of EVE." I cant resize the image though! imageshack is messign with me!
1) Nothing OP said relates to sandbox. 2) AoW is not a sandbox.
The game is interesting and different, that does not make it a sandbox tho. It is an awfully bugged, poor quality and flawed design game with asian settings released on western market. For some, the "uniqueness" may outweigh the shortcomings but for most apparently don't.

I never once called AoW a sandbox, my point is that western players don't handle complex systems and learning curves well as most want to be the hero on day one and don't have the patience to handle lengthy tutorials that are typically associated with sandbox style games.
I don't like this game myself but it has NOTHING to do with the type of game it is. It has to do with the delivery and for me, mainly the controls and combat. Controls will always be gamekillers for me and this game is one of the worst MMOs I've ever played when it comes to controls.

EVE is 3rd largest game on western market, yet most complex game ever made. You are wrong.
If you are not calling AoW sandbox, why the title and posting in AoW forums...

EVE Online is actually doing pretty nice. Also in my opinion so far the only sandbox who did it right, with is a shame, because I really do not like it.
I would have totally played this game if wasn't a FTP game.
Mounts & storage on an expiration timer? No thanks.
FTP model killed this game if you ask me.
More misinformation. It's not your fualt.
Your inventory does not expire. Once you upgrade you bank, it stays forever. You bags due ware out after 30 days. It keeps the crafters in business, and it just makes sense.
Horses, sure you can complain about this if you want. Just know it's as easy as going to an Auction House and buying one.
I have two characters: A Tangmen and a Scholar. I stopped playing Age of Wushu because I have so many other games to play at the moment. I'm put off by constantly playing in 220-300ms. I'll just wait for Age of Wulin to come out in Europe. Hopefully they will fix the translation issues, gold bots and add an ingame explanation for meridians and what they actually do. I'm not interested in trying to understand this stuff on some wiki, out there.

I don't know if I would call age of wushu a sandbox MMO. the game of life sandbox qualities of it but not truly allow you to build where you want when you want it or do what you do like a true sandbox would.
....Being Banned from MMORPG's forums since 2010, for Trolling the Trolls!!!
BCBully you spent most of last spring and summer evangelizing TSW as if it was the second coming of Christ and the best mmo ever made and some magical skill formula that made it the only mmo ever worth playing again.
Repeatedly.
How'd that work out ?
You are now doing the exact same thing for AoW , and I predict around this time next year it will be another game.
It's fine to like a game and enjoy it , but here again it seems like you can see no wrong in a game and have to spin everything possible positive about it.
AoW had its flaws , its translated like shit , one of the worst UI's I've ever seen , and expiring items bought for real money ( mounts ) might be the most greedy cash grab I've ever seen. Customer support is shit compared to someone like CCP or Trion so I don't care if its been out in China for 10 years , the US support is shit pure and simple compared to most other mmo's.
It's got it's niche and that's great , but its not this wonderful all being greatest mmo ever you try and push it out as in every post.
Didn't you learn anything from your months of evangelizing TSW?
