I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about people who sit AFK in guild hall/lobby collecting exp from monster mission groups while AFK? It seems that a lot of people are doing it lately. I don't think I like it because progressing without playing seems to defeat the purpose of playing at all, but even my own husband has done it. He got experience from a few missions, and then took his turn running a few.
Anyway, what do y'all think?

Errr this is wrong.
I am happy I am not playing EQ anymore, I would be outraged beyond anything I ever been. To benefit from other works...this is just wrong. If you don't contribute, you don't deserve anything.
It will make even more clueless noob in the high levels. The next step is to give a free level every week.

Touchy subject. My own feelings are this:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
1) If PvP is available on the server then this sort of play style should be banned, the character deleted and its bones spread across the land. It is an unfair advantage to those of us that actually grind away to get our levels.
2) If there is an in-game economy that may be adversely affected by the levels gained by this sort of play style (ie EQ2 and crafting bots) then it should be banned and the character deleted and its bones spread across the land.
3) I can think of absolutely no reason for this type of play style to be allowed hence it should be banned and the characters deleted and its bones spread across the land. It is an unfair advantage period. If you are not at the keyboard mashing keys like the rest of us then log the hell off. Period.
There .that about sums it up.
Everyone figures this will get "nerfed" (or "fixed", IMO), so they are trying to take advantage of it while they can. I don't like it, myself. You should have to at least zone into the instance, IMO, to get credit for it.
The monster missions, themselves, are kind of fun, and it is cool that you can play with anyone else, regardless of gear or level... but when you can exploit them for experience without risk kinda defeats the purpose of playing at all, if you ask me. Of course, I judge a game by the experience I have playing it, not by the number of experience points I have managed to accumulate.

I don't mind nerfing, but it was a way to do such missions alone. Since they nerfed you forced again to get a group, what means again you sit for 1- 5 hours lfg around befor you finaly have build a group or can join a group.
Should made a option to solo such missions imho.
Oh, I agree with that-- there's no reason why the Lower Guk mission shouldn't be available for solo play, for instance. It seems really contrived that something done fairly easily by one person requires you to have more than one.

This is the husband, hijacking the wife's account...
Let me start by saying I had a 66 cleric with 200AAs and a 70 mage with 100 AAs before this all started. All gained the hard way. Long nights of EXPing. Long nights of raiding. I got every scrap of EXP on my (now retired) cleric with blood, sweat, and tears.
The way it works, you get a group of 3-6 people. 2-5 of them are AFK doing whatever. 1 persons runs the lower Guk MM solo. Everyone gains a AA about every 45 minutes (or real exp, depending on split). When that person is tired or needs to go afk for awhile, another person may sit down and run a mission or 2. Or another, etc.
Everyone contributes to the effort for the group, everyone gains. No one person gains anything for nothing.
I got 15 AAs one day. I ran 4 of the 15 missions myself.
So the issue my wife brings up isn't about gaining something for nothing while others do the work. One could just as easily level, say, a Shadow Knight, by joining a good exp group, and then Feign Death and soak up free exp for hours.
Personally, I fought against this method of gaining AAs and levels until I discovered there simply were NO exp groups to be had as everyone was doing MMs. Of my guild, there would be 40 people online, 30+ of which were sitting AFK in guild hall. I finally gave up trying to get groups and just went with it.
While I've gained alot of AAs and also leveled a bot cleric on another account from 52 to 60 this way, I too hope it gets nerfed soon. I want to play my mage. I LIKE EXP groups. But until it gets nerfed, people are gonna do it as much as they can.

^^^^ That was my husband. ^^^^
This is why you shouldn't leave yourself logged in and unattended while you make dinner.
I might point out that my main has been stuck in 62 for the whole time he's been leveling that cleric. I got a group last night with folks farming emp key parts in Ssra and got 4% of my level for the night's effort. I don't have DoD, so finding ANY kind of exp group has sucked for me.

I agree with you. The way it sounded was that no work was being done, which wasnt the case. I apologize if i came off as bashing you in any way. I do agree that Monster Missions are a great alternative when no groups can be found which is the case most of the time nowadays at certain times. I am starting to regret screaming about a nerf hehe.
I think that less people will use mms once we start getting more new players in game.
Teh nerfzorz...

Yep! That was the nerf. Not much of a nerf to me, though, since I was usually playing all the characters in my group anyway... which is probably the saddest thing of all.
