Your choice of race in EVE has (yet) not such an impact like in other games. Basically the race only gives you your starting skill set, and the "RP-factor". If you don't fancy RP, then go for the race that gives you the best combination of attributes for what you want to do with your character.
Also there is no "best" way of making ISK. If done properly, Trading, Prodution, NPCing, Missioning, Pirating, etc. all can give you an handsome income, although currently a good source of cash is having a nice Tech2 Blueprint (though there are only a handful of lucky ones that own one, since the distribution of those is kind of a lottery - one of the things that truly suck about EVE).
For starters either do missions (source of income is bounties, reward and cash from selling minerals from refined crap loot), mine (boring but a steady income), or (if you are the type for it) Trade (you need little character skills, only a bit of starting cash, since RL Skills are more important).

Doesnt matter which race you chose, what matters is how your "attributes" are distributed. I wont go into it in detail just make sure Charisma is as low as possible and distribute the others as evenly as possible, if you get into the game you'll find out why.
In the short term the best way to make isk is to join a mining corp, you can do that from day one and make cash while getting to know the game. After that it's up to you, there is no "win" button.
hmmm...it goes back to the saying that " a game is what you make out of it ." a good race is useless if you don't really play the game as competent as you should.
I'm glad that I went Minmitar. Reason being that especially Gallente empire space is really crowded and Minmitar is very quiet. I never encountered an ore thief until I had to move to Gallente space. I found the quietest 0.6 system I could and there were regularly 25-50 in local. I went back to pick up some stuff in Min space and there were 3 in local. But all in all, race doesn't really matter. It's what you skill up in.
Edit: It might start to matter after RMR is out when the race factions start moving towards war.
Well there are no classes in EVE and no race is generally superior to another - at least not as far as the game mechanics are concerned. Which race is best for you is a matter of personal taste, based on which description intrigues you and how you wish to play the game. Or better if u check thier site to view all the races and classes
I don't agree (as an Intaki player xD) with "low-as-posible-charisma". Why? They're some skills which require charisma as Primary skill (Social, Trading, Leadership) and as CCP said, they're going to implement a lot more. I don't think they said that for nothing. Charisma is at least as important as the other attributes.
BTW, returning to the thread xD, there's not a "perfect" race. You can select one just because you like their appearance or their ships. In a little time, it won't matter.
hhmmm..looks like u've checked the site, but have u seen there that Intakis is not the only one who has a low charisma attributes? and they dont put there that charisma is the least important..they wont used those attributes if they are not important, every attributes has its own role in ur character. All characters have a set of basic attributes, based partially on race and other options you select during the character creation process.
dont u dare start playing MMORPG unless u want to be hooked
If you know a bit about EVE and want to pick a race that will maximise the attributes you use most (i.e. fit a race to the career you want to pursue) then there can be races which are better at certain things than others - but solely in terms of how long it might take to learn the skills. Otherwise, as everyone else has already said, there is no best race.
On the subject of Charisma attribute - it's no longer the dead horse it once was but it is still very much the least useful of the 5 attributes unless you are very much into your trading or now, gang leadership. Putting it as low as possible is a bit daft but generally concentrating on the other 5 attributes for boosts will tend to get you places in industry and combat faster. (It must be noted that some of the Social skills do help agent running by upping your pay and standings increases to use betetr agents faster.)

Lol yeah Caldari space is the same way like 10-20 people in local in all the high security sectors. My corp bases their mining ops out of Amarr space some of it is crowded, and some of it is pretty empty.
Industrialist/Scientist - Gallente - Intaki or Cladari - Deteis
Combat - go for the first 3, combat requires the most balance of any proffesion
Agent Runner - Gallente - Gallente
Amarr - Amarr have a nice edge with their insane Willpower, but thats countered by rubbish on the perception
Minmatar - Brutor are good for perception/willpower but don't really balance out like their Sebeistor brethren(though they get dreadlocks and shades, which makes up for it )

Its true .. pick any .. keep your charisma down and keep the others pretty even with each other and youll be fine.

That's what i say. Here somebody said "Put the less charisma you can" in your PC.

Best for balancing is (in this order):
Minmatar - Sebeistor
Caldari - Civire
Amarr - Ni-Kunni
If you want to concetrate on specifics:
Industrialist/Scientist - Gallente - Intaki or Cladari - Deteis
Combat - go for the first 3, combat requires the most balance of any proffesion
Agent Runner - Gallente - Gallente
Amarr - Amarr have a nice edge with their insane Willpower, but thats countered by rubbish on the perception
