Some of you folks are just out of your minds..lol. I mean, I know that the PC purist around here hate consoles, but damn. I played DCUO on both PC and on PS3 and I really liked it better on the PS3. If Eqnext is coming for the PS4... I'ma buy a PS4 lol
Kybo Yeah but they're Sony, they've got direct access to the hardware. It's not like 3rd party devs trying to work out the best way to get a new console to perform. Also you could pretty easily make a pc that acts like as ps4 even if you don't have a console to hand.
Is it just me or were mmo's better b4 consoles had internet.
Well that statement is a double-sword for me. I feel mmo's have become more consolish since then, with being able to solo, and action orianted. But on the other hand the only mmo that i played for a long time that was on both pc and console was ffxi, and it was very successfull. It wasn't solable or action oriented, well slower paced battle compared to others.
Guss it depends on the developer.
So ye eq next could be successfull on both pc/consols or could fail, only time will tell.
MMO's that have attempted to crossover to consoles have left a lot to be desired for PC gamers, particularly in terms of the UI. This will probably hurt EQ Next more than help it.
You are probably right but at least recently some PS3 titles have shipped with native keyboard and mouse support.

You're free to spend your money on whatever you like.
You should have liked DCUO better on PS3 than PC, because the game was complete garbage on PC at launch. There was no text chat, and the voice chat was riddled with bugs, so you really couldn't communicate with other players without 3rd party software. The game quickly went F2P because of these bugs and the fact that the game was very shallow in order to keep it within the abilities of the PS3. It's a fun game, but it could have been a lot better were it not designed within the limitations of a console that had become inferior in terms of hardware.
Now, for the first 2-3 years of the PS4, cross-platform games will likely be on par with most PC's, but after that, it becomes an inferior console again. You can certainly get your money's worth out of buying a PS4, but I personally prefer to drop the same amount on my PC over 4-5 years to keep it up to date.
No one is out of their minds for preferring a system that can be upgraded over a system that really can't, and eventually becomes out of date.
By the same token, no one is out of their minds for picking the ease of use that comes from a console system. Convenience is a big part of why consoles fare so well.
its like this, , SoE is GOING to make a move to take back the MMORPG market, with planetside,FF,EQ, and many others...why wouldent they...it worked for the ps2...that beeing said there are alot of people that dont want to see this happen because there scared with a remote in there hand they wont have all the perks that a PC gives, people will actually have to work hard to be good at the game...i hate it for the haters but its comeing...every game that i put up on this list will find there way to console...PC' game play is fixing to be a thing of the past...
MMO's on consoles isnt really something that is catching on.Cant say im a fan that EQN will be restrained by consoles either.
If anything Sony wins because Microsoft isnt just shooting themselves in the foot, theyre blowing their whole leg off.
Actually MMO's on console are catching on... when more and more MMO's start hitting console thats actually exactly what it means.
First it was simply a few MMO's. Then more started coming to console. Now several AAA MMO's and others are coming to console. It's catching on... I would also consider the possibility of Titan coming to the PS4 considering the deal Sony has worked out with Blizzard and Blizzard clearly stating they have other titles besides Diablo 3 coming to the PS4.
FFXI is on console.
EQOA was on console.
DCUO is on console.
Free Realms is on console.
Coming to console....
EQNext
Elder Scrolls Online
Planet Side 2
Warhammer 40,000 Eternal Crusade
War Thunder
FFXIV
And thats not even the full list, then there are numerous MMO-like games coming to console such as Bungie's Destiny.
I think it's safe to say MMO's on console has "caught on".

I think theyre merely putting their games on consoles to broaden their exposure to customers. Not because playing MMO's through consoles is something mainstream at this point.
Planetside 2 will still boast the 2000 player servers also. Which is will be the first attempt at something so large in an FPS on a console. WIll be very interested to see how this turns out for Higby and my boy T-Ray and SoE in general.
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
Being limited to the console... Bad decision. Lets develop a next gen game on 6 year old tech... Sounds very productive to me.
ib4 Consoles start exploding from not being able to handle the strain MMO's put on hardware.
"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then weve got another one that is actually going to be so were going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what were targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you cant hold me to it. But what were targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo

Really? If we were talking about other types of gaming then sure consoles could hold an MMO back. If we were talking about consoles like the PSOne then yeah, consoles would hold MMO's back.
With the current development cycle and the limitation in place due to the internet in general MMO's are limited by factors that hinder them from ever hitting a level that they would be held back by the current gen consoles when they finally launch.

What? As Higby said, Planentside 2 on PS4 will be with at maximum settings and the PC version gets nothing but benefits from the superior multicore support it will have.

Whatever you guys say.
The XBOX360 and the PS3 couldn't even handle FFXI for extended periods of play without overheating.. You really think the PS4 is going to be able to handle games that are now coming out only a year or so ago.
Yea... Like I said. IB4 Consoles start overheating

I would check out tech reviews for the PS4, pretty impressive. Plus the PS4 went away from the Cell architecture so it's hard to compare it to previous generations. If EQN is released on PS4 that would be fantastic considering I woulsnt be upgrading my comp for 2-3 years anyway. Plus, PS4 seems to be focusing on more player interaction through PSN which for MMO gamers should be a good thing right?

M y ps2 was on for 12-20 hours a day, everyday with finalfantacy or EQOA...
Okay i realize this is a rather old post but those of you talking smack about EQOA, you seriously forget what it was like for online gaming on consoles in those days! It was NOTHING like today! Online console gaming was in it's infancy and was very very very new! You had no where near as many people playing online on consoles in those days.
Understand that. ALSO, EQOA lasted NINE, count em 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9! YEARS on a console! No other mmo has done that ever! The community was fiercely loyal and a descent amount of us remained until the final day. I tend to get a little more than upset when i see people scoff at EQOA because it was the VERY FIRST attempt at console mmo gaming. It was highly experiemental and it was extremely intuitive and ahead of it's time.
Indeed, what stopped it from becoming a massive success is the very fact that it was so very much ahead of it's time. EQOA had ZERO loading between zones, you could run from Halas down into grobb and into ANY dungeon without a single load. EQ1 and EQ2 can't even claim to do that on a PC! EQOA was running on a PS2 with NO HDD support. Almost everything had to be run server side.
So please do not associate that time with our current time. Consoles have come a looooong looooooong way since those days and we went from practically no one being connected to (lol what? You don't go online with your console!!!!?) So think about that before you compare them! One more thing. PS4 is already confirmed to be showing 200+ players on screen for TESO. Rest assured PS4 will have ZERO problems running EQNext. That is all and thank you for your time =P

NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
