I totally understand and do not fault anyone who does not like Microsoft's new policies on the Xbox One. Three reasons why I'll be getting a Xbox One.

    1. The games. The games were just so much better than what Sony had to offer. Everyone was complaining after Microsoft's first Xbox One's reveal about how there was no focus on games. Totally understand and a very viable gripe but at E3 they clearly had the game advantage and games are what matters most to players. They had Ryse which looked very very good and TitanFall which was amazing. Those Titan mechs were awesome to watch in action. You also had Quantum Break which clearly is going to be open of the most innovative titles this next-gen. Sony maybe more policy friendly towards gamers but games are what matter the most.

    2. It is more than just games. Maybe because I'm in my 40's now I look at things a little bit different but having a console at home that gives you more than just games is very appealing to me and perhaps to the older gamer as well. We just don't like games, we also like sports and tv. To have that all in one box is quite nice.

    I pretty much agree.

I also find it funny that it is getting so much hate, and after the first reveal it was being mocked as TV TV TV TV etc no games, and come E3 they have over twice as many exclusives the PS4

Sony took out a patent at the start of the year to block used games, where the games get tied to your account, and so far they have provided no information on how they are allowing publishers to handle things, but from what I have read it seems that it will be just like PC - you are the only user and can not share with even one other person or trade the game in. Whereas Xbox One allows up to ten "friends" to share the game, and you can trade the games in at participating retailers

Sony have stated that the PS4 will be able to play used games, but it seems that they are not giving the full information, and that it will be the publishers who will put DRM on the games and not Sony.

On top of that Sony have also got a patent that stops your game and display an advert.

I can see why people will not want to get a Xbox ONE, but I do not see why people will automatically jump to PS4, when things are not finalised yet, and PS4 could end up being worse than Xbox ONE. The good thing though is that if not enough people preorder the Xbox ONE then MS may even remove all the restrictions completely and do whatever necessary to turn things around - MS are usually pretty good at fixing things - The original Xbox was sold at a loss, and the Xbox 360 RROD was fixed Free of charge.

I will probably not get either console at launch, as it is best to wait - later console versions are usually better designed, least likely to break down, and have more games. Right now PS4 has nothing for it that interests me, and the DRM is all up in the air - for both Sony and Microsoft.

Microsoft only problem was not going in detail about what they are trying to do with the Xbox One and why you as a consumer will want these new features.. I am looking for a new experience so the Xbox One has my full attention. PS4 is just what people like to say about mmos, its the same old same old and that's not what I want I am looking for now.  Not saying its bad but its just not for me. I don't care for Sony exclusives like God Of War, Grand Turismo and Uncharted. I also don't care for Japaness games because they all have 5 hours of gameplay with 10 hours of cut scenes. I want something new and different and will support the development of it the same way people do for mmos that they belive in. Things like the online check and lending games can be changed easily because its not hardware. There is no beta test so I am sure they are now taking in feedback. Like Microsoft said this is not a sprint. We looking at a 10 year investment so who knows how this is going to play. A lot of things are going to change in the years and even before these systems release a lot of things will change. One thing I can say for sure is that this looks to be the most interesting console gen I have seen.

They don't take feedback and they won't change the online check or lending games (pretty much stated) so yeah...have fun with the new experience.

What's with the passive aggressive attitude? its only a console debate. I'm with Mannish, I've not owned a console since I bought an N64 at launch, PC gaming has been my gaming experience since and I also think its the most interesting gaming development in years. The combination of Kinect, cloud computing and multimedia opens up possibilities within game development immensely. The rage thats going on now will be forgotten in a few years, people scream for innovation and Microsoft put plans to deliver it but with a few concessions and gamers lose all rationality and start flinging conspiracy theories around and trite nonsense about losing their consumer freedom which they never had in the first place and to top it all they fall for Sony's PR machine, who only recently were the devil incarnate, hacked PSN anyone.

Like I said, I have never bought a console at lauch and I been with consoles since Atari 2600. This is the first console that I plan to buy at launch. Microsoft can not evolve the software but they can evolve the hardware and that's just what they have done. They have given developers a tool unlike any we have ever had. Ever system comes with a Kinect now so developers can really use Kinect since its in every box. I am not talking about jumping or waving your arms but being 10 times better then the original able to pick up a smile, or frown or a sneeze or a laugh is something really interesting to me.

Sony is going  to keep playing it safe and let Microsoft take chances on innovation like they always have done. The original Xbox at launch had build in hard drive and online ready. Sony later added this on to PS2. Microsoft changed gaming forever with Xbox Live being able to download games, music, videos and share with other people. Sony later added this with PSN. Microsoft charged $50 a month for Xbox Live and Sony said you will never pay for online gaming with Playstation. Now Sony sees its successful and now will add it with PS4. Evolve or get left behind people.

You don't have to hand them anything. They access your games

Again, if the publisher of said game decides to allow it. Please keep that in mind because that is the reality.

Secondly it affects far more than trading. Xbox One isn't even allowing the ability to rent games at launch (Gamefly and numerous others are going to be impacted by this). Used games are going to get hit (Most notably is Gamestop and Bestbuy). It decreases the value by  a large degree in many ways.

And lastly, as I said before which you intentionally ignored... the PS4 has cloud gaming as well.... They have also given some details about how friends can play your games on the PS4 but haven't elaborated on it to much yet.

    So... lets sum this up.

Xbox Ones policy on trading and used games effects people in numerous ways hindering everything from loaning out games, to renting games, to used game sales.

Sony does not have such a policy.

Xbox One will allow you to play friends games if and only if the publisher decides to allow it which would effect them in the same way as used game sales and sharing does currently which they are totally against. Even then you are limited to 10 people that can play games in your library.

The PS4 of course also has cloud gaming and has mentioned friends playing your games but hasn't gone into great detail about it yet.

To address your edit... Sony did file a patent for similar DRM but did not use it and said they would not after the massive backlash from doing nothing but filling the patent.

Trading games will be a moot point in a few years games retailers are a dying breed the biggest in the UK Game/Gamestation have been closing stores left right and centre, even closing their major store in central London. Downloading will take over on consoles with both new consoles as it has with PC games, with day and date releases being promised. Also if its true you'll be able to download a new game from SmartGlass while at work to be ready when you get home that will be a bonus. I'll get it for my PC. But they do have some other real exclusives that might make it worth getting for some people.

“Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.” Also it tells you about the Family system which allows you to let your friend "borrow" your game without having to physically take the disc to him and publishers don't have a say over that. Please read into stuff before you try to bash someone.

Microsoft is flying out district managers of atleast EB Games Canada to their head office for conferences about the XB1 and it's systems to give stores a little better understanding but if people would just read it's pretty clear. All in all the "used games are gone and gonna hurt companies" argument doesnt really effect you. All they will do is charge Gamestop/EB Games a fee to sell used copies of their game so that Gamestop/EB Games isn't getting 100% profit from those games which they can definitely afford it's just some smaller game retailers not many people go to will have a harder time.

Rentals - You confirmed what I just said. I'm not sure what the point of that was but thanks :)

Used Games - Yes, they are flying out representatives for a conference because as of right now used games are out. It's an attempt to discuss and negotiate terms to allow used games sales.

Loaning games out and Sharing - You can say what you want but Microsoft is the one that added the disclaimer that Publishers of said games can restrict or allow the sharing of games. Maybe if you don't like people repeating it you need to contact Microsoft and see if they would be willing to retract that statement?

I wholeheartedly agree Mannish I'm not sure if you got that.

Sony have been having a tough time lately their share price is not what it once was and their market dominance is not there anymore, I get the feeling that the safe approach and the placating of gamers is just a short term thing to sells more PS4's at launch, their share price even dropped after the initial announcement of the PS4. But as SNG has alluded to, the fine print puts the onus on publishers to implement what ever DRM they want and in the long term Sony will do it as well and that for me and the fact that the PS4 isn't anything new lead me to pre-order an XBone.

    3. A more mature audience. The other thing I will mention that perhaps with Microsoft's new design for the Xbox One you may even get a more mature audience on the Xbox now. You know not every immature 15 year old can afford the new Xbox One. People always complained about  how the Xbox gets a bad rap with having a bad community. Perhaps now things will change now that Microsoft seems to be catering towards the more mature crowd these days.

Yeah umm just want to throw this out. The MAIN reason I will not buy the Xbone is the drm , It is not about the game but about my rights as a customer to do what I want with MY property after I give the money for it. I to am an older gamer at 41 years old and I also have a more prospective view on things now a days. And what I know is that I will not support nor condone this type of behavior from a product, regardless if it keeps your gear top shape or you are to lazy to switch a button with your finger.

It's called choice and most of the free world enjoys it. I choose to not support a company that can dictate in any form what I can do with my purchases. That means..what I can and can't do with my game, the free choice to not hooking up the console online if I so choose, not having a device monitoring me in any form ( and that extends to my family, think about that for a second ). If you let them do this now, the will run with it. You being a older gamer should well know that. Give them an inch.........

Oh and by the way expensive does not equal mature. Just means you got more disposable income , like most parents do to keep the kids out of their hair. Yeah, whining can get you a lot of things.

You really didn't read any of that did you? The loaning and sharing I said pubs have no say in it's the used game they have a say on if they want to charge retailers to sell them used or not or just say no to used. If a publisher can make profit on a game being sold used why the hell would they say no? At that point it's pure retailer and publisher profit because they could  have in the contract with developers they only get a cut of new sales which at that point is nothing new for developers and giving more money to publishers all the while making no difference for consumers really.

Microsoft's big issue was they didn't explain the stuff clearly they just posted it on their website while focusing on their games for e3 and god knows how people feel about looking for information. Why go to their main site when I can trust what others say including their competition!

Trading games will be a moot point in a few years games retailers are a dying breed the biggest in the UK Game/Gamestation have been closing stores left right and centre, even closing their major store in central London. Don't get me wrong, I've been one of the advocates of cloud gaming since its inception pretty much but Mannish and a couple of others have been trying to push the Xbox One like they are shills. The plain and simple fact is this, the Xbox One has way to many negatives compared to the PS4. Sony has dominated Microsoft throughout the console wars and the one time Xbox took the lead of the two Sony took it back. With the PS4 Sony has taken a better stance towards consumers and developers and even went further to push for better indie support. This is contradictory to what Microsoft did and its going to hurt them.

Sure the future is going to be different, but that doesn't change or effect the here and now. When the time comes that the things you mentioned become relevant then I'd be happy to discuss them, just keep in mind I do agree with you as far as the future of how games and such will be delivered. I'm personally looking forward to the Steam Box for this very reason which is really going to put the hurt on Microsoft and Sony both.

As far as being able to download with smart glass both systems have several ways to get games while away from home through android apps and such. Sony has a leg up due to their hardware and cloud setup but both have made it easier to get games faster and ready to play sooner.

I stopped their because Microsoft said they did and you are contradicting Microsoft at that point, not me so it seems your argument or discussion would be better served being directed at them :)

Some things I just see in a different way. People say Sony beat Microsoft this gen but I say they did not. The original Xbox was more like a niche console compared to PS2 but look at how much more the Xbox 360 is. The Xbox 360 is 10 times more successful then the original Xbox. Microsoft this gen was truly successful. PS3 did not nearly sell as well as PS2 did and everybody knows that. PS2 was considered the best selling system of all time but the PS3 did much worse and that was because Sony actually had a really great system as its competition and that was the Xbox 360. So you tell me who won?

    1. PS3 and Xbox 360 have, last count, been roughly around the same level of sales (within 300k-400k unit sales), the Wii raped them both by quite a few million more units sold.

    2. It wasn't the Xbox 360 being a better device than the PS3, it was it being a more developer friendly device which ultimately led to it not being more popular than the Xbox 360 (google PS3 cell architecture).

No, the PS3 didn't outsale the PS2 and that was mainly due to the price. The main reason the 360 had a chance is because they launched a year ealier than the PS3 and were also cheaper. Not only has Microsoft lost both of those advantages this round but it also has to deal with the fact that the reception of the Xbone has been relatively bad compared to the PS4 after all the presentations and reveals.

Even though the PS3 didn't outsell the PS2 keep in mind it did outsell the Xbox 360 and that was with being more expensive and launching a year after the 360 lol... even while handicapped they won. You are trying to tell me that Xbox One while having all the negativity surrounding it is some how going to magically overtake the PS4 when its launching at the same time and at a lower retail?

But as SNG has alluded to, the fine print puts the onus on publishers to implement what ever DRM they want and in the long term Sony will do it as well and that for me and the fact that the PS4 isn't anything new lead me to pre-order an XBone.

Yea, the Wii was the overall winner. Coming from Game Cube Nintendo did better then anybody.

Thats something that nobody can deny. I think this is going to be the first Gen that they actually come in something other than first. The Wii U just has to high of a price point to compete with the PS4 or the Xbox One with their lack of games.

Never going to happen, for all the reasons stated previously. Microsoft has shot themselves in the foot so much with this one that they had to send out for more ammo. As for maturity *rubs grey beard*, and I can afford any system that I desire.

Really hard to address all the rampant idiocy and bias you bring to this, but I'll try...

Sony didn't create the hard drive and online addons in response to Microsoft and the original Xbox. First and foremost it was added to support the several online titles made for it, a majority of which were focused for the Japanese market. Don't go trying to fool others into thinking it was some response to try and be more like the XBox. The hard drive addition itself was meant practically specifically for Final Fantasy 11 so it could be installed and run through there, along with its expansions.

Hell, Dreamcast has Microsoft beat on including online connectivity seeing as it came out at least a year before Xbox, but do you see me pushing some idea that Microsoft added that same function on to the Xbox because of that? No. Am I going to claim Nintendo ripped off the idea from Xbox when they released an online addon for the Gamecube after release? No. They weren't necessary at all for the systems because a majority of the games didn't need the functionality. When they had games they developed to use such functionality, they added it in.

And again, as another fun fact involving the Dreamcast. On release it had browser functionality, allowing people to download additions for their games, among other things including uploading, watching videos, and internet browsing (which Sony predated microsoft's 360 on with the PS3).

Microsoft charges me $60 buck to play online. That $60 goes towards all the unnecessary fluff they've been shoving into the services. The price was also originally $50, mind you.

Playstation plus was started as a subscription program to get benefits. Have they retroactively made it required for all of the kind of online services Microsoft provides? Yes and no. Free to play titles won't require it, and using programs like Netflix won't either. On top of all the extra benefits you still get from the program? That, in my opinion, beats out Microsofts lackluster fee any day.

    edit:

Oh, and if you try to argue the "success" of the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3, Guess what? As of recently, both systems are sitting around very similar sales numbers. That, of course, is even after it took Sony a few years to actually get their system in good shape.

I am not talking to people like you. Its the people that really want to know more about the Xbox One that I am trying to give info to. I have given info on the Xbox Sharing, 24 Hour Online Check, Always On and Used Games. There is nonthing more for me to say here.  All the information is out there. I don't play mindless post war against fanboys. We have nonthing further to discuss.

Rather ironic, considering that's exactly what you come of as!

You make a post proclaiming Microsoft to be a constant innovator and paragon to console development that all others struggle to follow, I disapprove and disprove, and you make an exceedingly useless post that boils down to "I don't want to talk to you!".

And as an FYI, I've owned my 360 longer than my PS3. I'm just not so blatantly biased as to try and misrepresent one side over another. =)

I made no proclaiming to anything. I simply gave my opinion on how I see it.

I stood in a Gamestop midnight line for 2 hours on Black Friday to get the Uncharted / Infamous PS3 bundle. We have a Xbox 360 and a PS3 in house but the PS3 belong to the kids. I am also not one sided over another. image

    1. Better graphics and performance on PC.

    2. CoD with a limited short lived mech that has a long cooldown (i think i read that you can essentially use it once a battle). not really exciting or new.

    3. Another FPS shooting gallery. We really need that?

The only way I will ever have a console is if PC's get banned and I wish they would stop trying to write programms for both make them either for one or the other and then the games will have the time and love they deserve. I feel companies are just trying to milk everyone dry.
