I want a character thats good for pvp so i picked a rogue, but what does "choose your purpose" mean when creating your character? There is bard, huntsman, etc. I picked huntsman. is there one that is better for pvp? Id like to make a hunter type character.

If you're looking for a hunter like play try a ranger/marksman mix.
You can head to rift junkies for entry lvl help
Or the official forums rogue section here all the up to date guides are there
That should get you started down the road.
Whats best one for pvp, does it even matterr?
someone told me bard was good, level 10 so far and enjoying the game, getting used to the graphics.
Rift is a game with lots of variations in builds. Soon you'll start to let go of the premade builds and make your own and just have fun with them. Almost anything is viable in pvp, with a few top dog specs.
As for rogue, I really enjoyed the saboteur when I started playing. Stack bombs and when you have 5: press BOOM!

You will have lots of builds because you can change souls so don't worry about it.
Play what you like and let everything fall where it may.

Purposes are the game's prebuilt specs. You can deviate from them at any time. If you choose to start a build from scratch then it makes no difference what purpose you choose since you can swap out souls at any time as long as you've put no points into them.
There are lots of options for pvp. If you want a hunter-type then you'll definitely want to put some points in Marksman because it does very good damage plus offers a lot of movement speed boosts.

This will be fun for the first day or so.
After awhile, the entirety that is "PvP" will just consist of pressing TAB 1,2,3,4, Boom ... TAB 1,2,3,4, Boom
No way, you just need to learn not to get your pve rotation into PvE. Making use of the traps, getting a spec with assassin, mixing it with RS, there's a lot of versatility to be added by yourself. Be creative!

This is good advice for a new player, but I feel it doesn't quite explain things from a point of view a new player can relate to easily.
Starting for the first time:
When you first create a character, you will notice a question asking what your purpose is. Those will get you started on one of the game's pre-made builds. When you open your skill tree window, you may notice it refer to "callings". Those are other pre-made builds. You can choose to follow those builds and be fine, or you can experiment with builds on your own, or follow a build you find elsewhere. Unlocking additional builds to save is relatively expensive, but the first extra build should be easy to afford.
Making your own build:
Respeccing is more affordable in this game than most games, so feel free to experiment.
If you have played a game with talent trees (like WoW) this game is much easier to understand by thinking of the "souls" as talent trees. There are currently nine souls for each class. You can choose three souls (or talent trees) to put points into for your build. Each soul has a different function or role.
As you put points into the top part of a soul tree, more abilities for that soul will unlock in the bottom part. The additional abilities are not always more powerful, but they do help define how your character will play. For example, an Assassin gains poison buffs which only work with melee attacks. This makes it less than optimal to play as a ranged character. You can still try if you want, and you might be successful, but the points would potentially provide more benefit elsewhere.
A few build tips:
Focus on one tree first. Spreading your points out early in the game can usually hinder your character. There are a few exceptions, notably with Rogues (see next tip).
Early in the game, it is a good idea for a Rogue to put 4 points into Tactician to unlock Curative Engine buff. This will heal you when you are hit, up to once per second. Soloing single mobs will be much easier with this buff.
Experiment with an offline soul tree planner. There are two good ones that I know of.
Don't let anyone tell you a build can't be done. Try it and see if it works. Respecs are cheap.
Most of the souls don't mix well with others. Abilities in one soul are often designed to only work with abilities from the same soul. A lot of the abilities are redundant at lower levels of souls. Mixing two or more souls doesn't work very well in a lot of cases, so if you feel like you're too weak, try respeccing and focus on one soul with your extra points in the other.
