"Players will get their hands on an actual release version of what we're doing late [this] year - and I don't mean a beta," says Smedley.
he would break a lie detector
But he is more believable than people that think this game doesn't exist and somehow they are doing a big reveal in 2 months.
I dunno, you don't think it's weird that there have been 0 in-game screenshots, no video, no nothing.
This whole "behind closed doors" revelation to MMORPG and Tentonhammer.
If it doesn't happen in August at SOE Live it will be extremely weird to me. But I doubt they gave it best in show with just screenshots and concepts. They want it to be one big reveal. Like a "world premiere" event.
I have no proof that it does. Exageration? Of course but it makes my point. If it were any other game we would be calling it vaporware, in this case though the Next forums are oddly active.
But it isn't any other game. We all know that SOE is in the business of making MMO's. They have stated a reason why they aren't releasing information publicly yet. They have stated when they plan to release that information. I suppose we can choose to disagree with the rationals but it doesn't do us any good. Although I am eager to see what they have in store, I personally understand both why they have been keeping it quiet so far and why they decided to have the public reveal at SOE Live.
Sadly after reading this forum thread I reached some startling conclusions.
1/ The amount of paranoia displayed by some should warrant some level of medication.
2/ The amount of butt hurt displayed because of the "They saw something I didn't not fair not fair WHAAaAaaa" is staggering.
3/ The exact same conversations about hype that have occurred for, oh I don't know how long has this website been going now, I joined so long ago now.
So final overall conclusions would be .
A/ We are all dumb as rocks for learning nothing over a protracted period.
B/ Classic description of insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over and expect a different result.
The reveal is what August 2nd why doesn't everyone take a huge dose of get over themselves and wait the very short period to find out if they are mad, paranoid or correct.
PS still love you guys, hugs (indication of mad behaviour)
This is great to hear , Ten Ton Hammer have my trust over the years they haven't been wrong often ,

This year’s Ten Ton Hammer Best of Show for E3 2012 Award goes to…
Neverwinter (Cryptic)
Since first being shown last summer, Neverwinter has continued to evolve into something special. At risk of sounding hokey, this is the game that Cryptic Studios was always meant to make, and the developer has gone to great lengths to insure Neverwinter is the most compelling game it possibly can be.
The approach to more action oriented gameplay is spot on, and offers the most intuitive combat system our industry has seen in a very long time, if not ever. Combined with Cryptic’s excellent handling of the beloved Forgotten Realms setting and the promise of what the Foundry toolset will bring to the table, Neverwinter is packed full of awesome and we can’t wait until gamers can get their hands on it.
They apparently scrapped it a year and a half ago,NOBODY makes a quality game in 18 months.Actually no apparently, they DID scrap it.
This does not mean there is no room for potential,it might end up being a great game,i am just very skeptical because i judge the developer based on what they have shown me in the past and not on broken promises or here say.
I have seen people in forums swear on their grave that the crappiest game going is the best thing since sliced cheese,so there is definitely room for skepticism.
I was just reading yesterday an article at Gamasutra on how the industry doesn't like all the negativity on the genre. You know what, there is a way to change that, quit making cheap games. Most of what i see in game development seems to be fooling a lot of people, but i can see how cheap the efforts have been and it has been awful lazy work.
I even wonder if the media was shown actual game play or just scripted videos because we have al lseen some amazing videos, fun to watch but no indication of what the game would be like.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You do realize that E3 awards are for unfinished games with the most potential and aren't meant to predict the future? Not as if Ten Ton Hammer knew it was going to be a mess at launch.

They said they scrapped it a year and a half a go like last fall. So they actually scrapped it closer to two years ago. Also, when they said scrapped, they specifically mentioned that all their work wasn't scrapped just what the game fundamentally was.

I'm just hoping EQN is light years better than anything Neverwinter is offering.
A bigger concern to me is this: how many decades of Everquest fans are out there, but the media get the first look? Where is the fan loyalty here? Why the closed doors and secrets?
Because last time they were open about it certain things were copied from the game by other companies this is what there trying to prevent this time.
Ya, Some one telling me to wait almost 2 months and THEN get excited, sounds fishy too. at least a 10 second video, maybe 2 or 3 screenshots. But Then again I could see the flip side, IE wait til all the big hype'ness of E3 dyes down and then smack em with the homer.

Well, competition wasn't exactly grand last year if you don't like FPS. Two non-MMOs won awards with them that year and one oft the winners was a LOTRO expansion.
A bigger concern to me is this: how many decades of Everquest fans are out there, but the media get the first look? Where is the fan loyalty here? Why the closed doors and secrets?
Fans can't keep their mouth shut thats why. I know I wouldn't be able to.
websites can't keep their mouth shut either unless they get something in return
they were probably promised early access to the game or something
Signed a contract to keep quite before entering the room.
I have high hopes for the game but in my opinion a game that isnt shown to the public and only gets shown to a select few behind closed doors just shouldnt get a reward like Best of show.
I do understand that it was shown on the E3 so it technically can get the title Best of Show (well and everyone can give out rewards for about any reason anyway) but i still feel that if you dont Show it open its not shown on the Event (E3).
Maybe best secret of the show would be more fitting.

I find it disturbing a game that they can't even talk about is winning awards.
It should be immediately disqualified as it was not a public viewing.
I honestly am blown away.
And so the pattern begins again.
"EQN!! The new messiah of the MMO genre!!"
Then comes the release.
"EQN is the biggest piece of shit to hit MMOs, and the genre is worse for it!!"
I hope I'm not the only one that see's the pattern emerging once again.

Actually the opposite. Lots of people blame him for everything instead of looking at things logically.
Like for instance, if this plan was to release the NGE all along when they did it why were they still polishing and bug fixing the CU the whole time?

It's going to be a collector's card game.
That's why they're saying it's a sandbox where you can make your own world, they're talking about putting your deck together.
Do you believe the things that you say?
So, if it's a card game, why is on MMORPG?

pretty sure that was actually a joke, but tough to tell with some of the other posts
Man the trolls.
Can we stop feeding them ? They're obviously fans of some other crap game who're but hurt about SWG when they likely never played it.
You ever notice how 1 million people curse SOE for SWG yet the game never had half of that in players ?

People sure do get emotionally invested in games.

I was actually there and just fyi, it might not be the "best game revealed" it is pretty damn close.
It shows a lot of variety, exploration, design that I am personally interested in.
