I want to be griefed

DocBrodyDocBrody Member UncommonPosts: 1,926

Griefing should be possible because:

- I want to be griefed and rage quit every now and then. Makes the gameplay experience LESS SHALLOW, more EMOTIONAL.

- I want to know what I did wrong and learn from mistakes. Makes the gameplay experience MORE INTERESTING.

- I want to take revenge with people from my alliance or set out a bounty on the griefer. Makes the gameplay FUN and SATISFYING.

- I want to feel the threat even if no one is around. Makes the gameplay experience SCARY and REALISTIC.

that is all.

The PvP server will be right up your alley.

    You mean the PvAll server?

Who says there will be a PvE-only server?

    I'm with you, DocBrody.

I had a super traumatic experience playing Ultima Online when I was 14. I was lost somewhere in the wilderness and asked a passer-by for a black pearl so I could recall. Couldn't find one anywhere on the ground after searching for a while and I didn't understand the map well enough to get back. So he led me all the way to his house, which took a long time. When we got there he took me upstairs, cornered me, killed me and took all my stuff including my first metallic set of platemail. I couldn't sleep that night...  but from that day forward I was hooked on the thrill of having lots of intelligent threats everywhere and avoiding them with intelligence. I was never the best fighter, but became damn good at getting in and out of dangerous situations. And I partnered up with a guy who was a beast and could usually take on 3-4 skilled players at once, which made my small contributions worthwhile. What a rush.

And yeah, there can't be PVE servers in my vision of the game because PVP will be integrated with all the other game systems instead of being an afterthought.

I am with you, I think most of the PVP haters havent really ever played a real pvp game so they really dont understand what does it mean to have those adrealine rushes while playing. MMORPG without PvP is after a while really boring.

I think we all know what happend to Kano in UO :) So did you even play UO or are you speaking of another game?  Cant camp "rez spots" when the healers are wandering around the wilderness to ressurect you. Or back at town. You must be thinking about some 2001+ mmo that sucks donkey doo because their all the same tired boring thing over and over. The UO experience was so good you really couldn't get griefed unless you really wanted to be griefed. And again with UO there were consequences to PvPing in the game with your Supremely Accurate spear of Vanquishing when you really dont want to lose that. :) My guess is you come from the newest genre of this fake illusioned mmo. All new mmos out there are missing one thing. The exciting and rushing scare of knowing each and every second you play that your in danger. And if you want to go kill the guy stalking lichs and take his gold and whatever magics you can do it but there are consequences... It all leads down to consequences.. These mmos out have no consequences therefor you ressurect and oh well. Been a boring ride recently.

    haha presto!

So with it, it never gets boring and you're still playing your first mmo ? Or like every single one of these threads this is what you enjoy in an mmo and can't figure out it's not what everyone is looking for.

Having the added intensity of PvP while adventuring can add an interesting dynamic. Not 100% of the time however as I think you lose a certain appreciation for the world around you since you're always thinking about being killed.

I liken it to full loot. If you have full loot that means the items you can get don't mean as much. They have to be easily replaceable and you lose the experience of having a really nice piece of gear.

It's preference for sure but I play MMOs to have fun. I do not play them with the intent to illicit a negative reaction. That's why I'll always be a fan of consensual PvP. Have a lot of fun then be left alone to explore an RPG world, the whole reason I started playing them in the first place.

That's not the case for many at all. A game should be fun, and getting griefed all the time is not fun for me. The problem with the OP is that when I rage quit, I don't look back, and I am sure this is the same for many.

Looks like the pvp crowd is hoping for a UO Next instead of EQ Next.  Perhaps they should start emailing and pestering EA .

When I want to do quests or do some PvE I certanly don't want to waste time on resurrecting or running from 50 players this guy just called because I killed him (and he was the attacker).. Even worse, when those 50 players decide to camp my corpse and wont let me finish what I started. I've played on PVP server in WOW and I hated it after a while because it really gets stupid.

I do like PvP - but when I want to play it I go to the battlegrounds or places in world where PvP is expected. When I want to do PvE, PvPing with random douchebags just makes me not want to play the game that way...

There are plenty of games that would fit your list, hopefully EQN will not be one of them.

Why? Because all of this has been done before, it is an old and tired system IMO, hopefully EQN can do something new and not the same old crap.

Scary and realistic - that made me chuckle, being corpse camped is realistic? Camping rez spots?

The problem with current open world PvP is that it is not realistic at all, there is no harsh consequence for any action so it deteriorates into the strong preying on the weak, or groups preying on smaller groups.

There is no danger as you either face roll others, or you get pwnd - that is the end state of most open world FFA PvP games.

and it sucks for both the top guilds feel no challenge the new players are meat.

I played in several top PvP guilds, 90% of the time you just faceroll, fun at first, mind numbingly boring later.

    All of that.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

That's not what I meant at all..  Making a grief gank fest would create a very niche game.  EQN is suppose to be the next big thing.  Do you really think they will turn their backs on the entire eq and eq2 pve playerbase? Not a fucking chance..

Anyone thinking EQN will have forced PVP, is kidding themselves. It would be a great way to cut their revenue by at least half, yeah, I see SoE doing that with their main franchise. lol

PvP is more challenging and that is why a lot of people don't like it. Some people just can't take a beating well.

    LOL

Apparently you aren't aware that everyone doesn't experience adrenaline rushes as a super uber positive.

If they did then everyone would be jumping out of planes, bungee jumping and whipping around mountains in a wing suit.

Adrenaline is released when you are stressed in order for your body to cope. Not everyone enjoys being put into a stressful situation and then getting slapped with adrenaline.

I think they mostly don't like what they perceive as the majority of the people who (unfortunately) represent the pvp community.
