Sex not selling with dodgy Asian MMOs

AddersAdders Member Posts: 28

I'll start by saying that I'm disappointed sex doesn't sell.

So many games advertised heavily on this website and others feature big-breasted, scantily-clad fantasy women in revealing clothes.

Nice, I'm a lascivious kind of guy, nothing wrong with that.

But the games they advertise for are rubbish!

Sure, I've never played Wartune - I was suspicious that the sexy advertising hid a bad game, and watching gameplay videos on youtube confirmed that. It's like Evony (shudder!) (cringe!) (the horror, the horror!)

Scarlet Blade had promise, but just delivered another super-grindy and derivative cheap Asian MMO.

Why can't an MMO advertising itself with sexy images actually be a fun and sexy game?

Is that asking too much?

At least the porn industry sells what it advertises...

Because videogames aren't sex, and if there was a real game behind those I'm sure they would give priority in advertising the game itself first.

Is this a troll thread? :P

Not exactly, complaining about the let-down. Thought it was relevant because the kind of advertising so often featured on this site.

The games don't deliver what they're advertising, so it's wrong.

Wonder if it works for others and they fork out money for games with lewd advertising.

Have we seen ads like that for games that aren't F2P?

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Ultimately, I think I prefer to keep my porn seperate from my video games.

Don't think I've seen them. But players must be giving these F2P games money, or else they wouldn't be advertising heavily?

Then that would be because of the gameplay at that point, not because of the advertising, right?

Possibly yes, but in many cases people would fork out right away or to achieve what the advertising promises. Example, Scarlet Blade is F2P but you have to pay $15 to see character in the nude or change underwear. The gameplay of "Kill 20 mob X" and next quest is "Kills 20 mob X AGAIN!" wouldn't encourage many to get their credit cards out.

    I hope.

You can wrap shit in a pretty package but at the end of the day, you are still left with shit.

But gift wrap it and leave it on a car seat, with the windows open, someone will steal it.

(A handy disposal strategy for all sorts of toxic materials).

Age of Conan...was really bad at release, but now its a pretty solid game Id say. Funcom's advertising mascot for AoC was/is Keaira. If you add the word nude, while researching for more scientific material, you will find exactly what you are talking about in your first post.

keaira's nude pic is btw not a fanart - its official Funcom work and was used for all kinds of Ads/wallpapers/you name it.

    have a nice day!

Good sex(porn)game still controversial it won't pass most rating system in most country's.

And you know if one niple shown, whole US declares marshall law:P

Games are still not mature enough majority goverments and politicians think its for kids.

And religous groups will say its devilish, burn them down straight into hell.

After all naked body and natural deed is evil chopping off heads NOT we live in a strange world lol

For me It must be game where in one hand... ah well will prolly never happen:P

Some how i realy dont see need for games i play that must have sex.

It was nice in The Witcher 2 but its not why i bought the game or selling point.

Do you have a link to that? I haven't seen data on that anywhere and I'm very interested in buying patterns for that game.

I prefer games personally that massage the fun centers of my brain as opposed to massaging my hard... drive.

How do we know these games aren't selling?  I'm pretty sure they are.  Evony is still kicking, and Scarlet Blade doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon unfortunately.

The zombie in the Neverwinter ad is showing a boob well 1/2 a boob.

I tend to agree with your OP. Most of them showcase these Ads but are nothing like what they're advertising. Tera was the only one I wasn't disappointed with but I can only play it in small doses.

It's too bad they only seem to wrap the worst of the worst in these "sexy" character models. I'd actually enjoy a good mmo with the bikini armor style of fantasy art.
