So I tried looking up what heroes are free to play and couldnt really find any answers every hero i looked at on the website say get it from drop or from the store.
You start the game with either Storm, Thing, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye or Daredevil. After the tutorial, you get another hero from that same list, though I'm not sure if it's random or dependant on who you first chose (I chose Storm, got Thing after tutorial quest). From there, heroes and costumes have a chance to drop from bosses.

My strategy is to play the hero i like best in the free list (DD for me), and wait for others to drop. Since the game is pretty long, just DD (and the extra bonus hero after the first quest) will keep me occupy for a while.
Just buy $20 worth of cash shop currency and buy the hero you want to play with. The time it will take to earn a "free" hero (especially the one you want) is going to FAR exceed the value of your time in dollars. Really, $20 for a video game is pretty cheap.
And my standing opinion: If you can't afford to spend $20 on a video game that will likely give you 20+ hours entertainment, go get a job (or a new job or a second job).

can afford != want to spend the money. I can drop a $900 meal on French Laundry with my wife (worth every penny) but why should i drop $20 on a game where i have free alternatives that is as much fun?
Secondly, it is not a job to "earn" the free hero. You "earn" by playing. If playing is not fun, i would not be wasting my time in the first place. If playing is fun, then what is the problem of playing enough till i get the free hero?
The other thing to mention is that you actually get up to 3 free heroes. The first you pick, the 2nd is random after you finish the tutorial, and the third is random after you beat doom.
The 2nd and 3rd heroes are from the same list as the 1st, and you have a chance to get duplicates.
You can always create another account to try out some of the other starters as well.

Not wanting to pay someone for the work they put into creating an entertainment product that you find entertaining, but still believing you should receive that entertainment does = entitlement in the worst way. How would you feel if people felt they deserved the products of your labor but shouldn't have to pay for it? You probably wouldn't do any work for them...

Yes, i won't do anything work for anyone who is not paying me.
However, gazillion is in the business of F2P games .. which is their choice. They can make it B2P, P2P, or whatever they like. So no .. i have no problem receiving this entertainment for free. It is a free world, they don't have to do F2P. If they do, it is also a free world for me to take maximum advantage of it.

They put a free option in there. Telling people they should pay, when the game makers themselves added a free alternative is asinine at best

keep in mind you only get ONE of the five free heroes

Yeh. I don't understand how some may think it is a sin to play for free, when devs are practically begging people to do so.
