Hehe, I remember the days of Quake 3 and loved tribes 2! those were great games to just get on the comp and just start playing without having to invest hours and hours of time like an mmorpg type game(just a nice escape). But I havn't bought or gotten into any new ones since then. Was wondering whats one of the best ones to play at the moment, free or pay really its not too much of a problem. Although if you know of a good free one that'd be neat heh =).

By the way, I appreciate all your comments and the fact you read my thread =/.

edit: Ohh.I want to mention I tried gunz online but it kept freezing on my comp =/ and I never even got to get past the char selection screen which made me sad not being able to try it.

Hmm, if you like 2d shooters, Soldat is interesting, I've been playing a bit of Far Cry lately as well, that's fun.

Thanks for the comment Dark, But i don't think soldat would give the rush of a "first" person shooter you know? how is farcry?

Far Cry isn't exactly run in and shoot fscking everything, it's more kind of waiting to knife people kinda thing.

The graphics are amazing, even on my suckage system, the vehicles are fun to drive, and everything about it is funness.

Seconded Ashkent, CoD in general rocks.

Half-Life 2 is a damn good FPS and aparently you missed out on it. Any VALVe game for that matter is damn good. You could try the origional Call of Duty that was good and used the Quake III Engine. Uhh, Quake IV I guess, I am getting it for an X-mas gift, but wouldn't buy it on my own. It seems too old fasioned (like doom, no real story).

Uuuuhhh.... Counter-Strike anyone? I think it would always be a safe bet....
You could also try UT2004, Ive heard it has pretty good multiplayer and a solid SP campaign... not really new but wahtever...
    Oh, Battlefield2!

Just bear in mind that from these I only played CS... :P, the other 2 are recomended from the reviews Ive read....

Are you looking for a good offline/multiplayer game, or more of a MMOFPS?
  • bobblerbobbler Member UncommonPosts: 810

most FPS games are full of little kids or asshats such as CS and most other FPS games. but if you really do want to play an FPS game try FEAR or RavenShield

The vanilla Halflife-2 game is an incredible single player game, the absolute best I have ever seen or played.

Depends on so much... but some of the coolest FPS games IMO are the tactical ones. There's just nothing like moving together in an element of 4, playing the roles(point, guard, lead, tail) of the element, and just going tactical about everything, covering each other. So damn cool!!

To name a few good tactical games:

Swat 4 - Has really cool multiplayer modes, fine graphics, good selection of weapons and great bullet physics.

Ravenshield - REALLY BIG weapon selection, good bullet physics, and fun going tactical in.

America's Army - No children. Extremely realistic. Takes some time to get into, but it's very cool when you're rank is high, and you're the squad leader.

Hostile Intent - This is actually a HL 1 mod. A mod comming for HL 2 soon. This game is extremely tactical. You have real iron sights. You can't see when somebody dies. No HUD(only msg telling you when you reload many mags you got left) All this means you have to keep an active Voice contact to your team to know alive. It's really cool, you figure out you're alone because nobody is responding.

    Just my 2 cents...

I would say Americas Army, Awesome game play, plus it's free :)

America's Army comes directly to mind and it's free. I've had some bandwith problems with it though. I think that has more to do with Gamespy than anything though.

    UT 2004, obviously.

Serious Sam 2 looks good and delivers some solid old skool action.

Gunz it's not first person, but it will give you a rush.

Tribes: Vengance I saw it for $20 at Gamestop!!

Other than that, there isn't alot happening in the PC FPS genre. F.E.A.R. is about the only game that really got any attention at E3 and that's really the only FPS that was released this year. At least to my knowlege.

Actually I thought that Quake 4 was going to be delayed on the PC since they wanted it as a launch title for the XBox 360.

As for Call of Duty..... I'm totally sick of WWII games and I figured that the original poster was as well. Plus he seemed more interested in multiplay and CoD is more geared for a single player experience. Great game, but we're all really burnt on the theme.

fear, quake 4, and CoD2 all came out around the same time on PC.

and what part of his post exactly did you get that he was tired of WWII games? just because you are doesn't mean everyone else is.

right, thats why they have multiplayer in cod2 and tons of people play it? who are all these people who are burnt out on it?

only fps game I played and liked...
farcry woulda been good if the game was all outside mostly, but most of it takes place inside dark ugly rooms. I hate that in fps games

did you play the same farcry that i played? the one i played was mostly outside...
