Release Day Plans?

PigglesworthPigglesworth Member UncommonPosts: 260

Anyone planning to take significant time off work or other activities around release?

I have been saving up my vacation time at work and will be taking a full month off work to play at release.

What about you?

Again MMO players are so ridiculous it is not wonder developers can continue to  make money off us with the garbage they throw our way.

Well, its paid vacation time. What else am I supposed to do with it? Sit on a beach and get drunk?

I will play the heck out of the game on release day, but I won't take off work for it.

Well, to be honest I'll have to look at the information coming out. I'm going to try the game, but if it's the wrong type I might not play the heck out of it.

Plan on quitting my job, applying for government assistance and never leaving the house again.

In reality, however, I still have 2 of my 4 weeks of vacation time left to spend before Jan 1st, so might use a week after launch just to sit at home and do nothing but play (specially seeing as hopefully the kids will be back in school so they won't be bugging me all afternoon.). I always use 3 weeks of my vacation time for real vacations - the 4th week is my 'lazy do nothing' vacation. And the family knows not to bug daddy when he's on his 'lazy do nothing' vacation.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Going to follow EQ Next very closely, but this isn't going to be a preorder for me. I freaking love EQ, but lots of questions still surround this game.

If it turns out to be good game, at the one month mark may have to take a long weekend off from work and have a LAN party. Little red bull, you know the drill.

    Really??

You are already planning vacation time (several weeks) for a game which there is very little information about and no gameplay footage?

Oh, and yea, no release date either..

I could understand this thread if launch was 2 weeks away, but come on, not even open beta has started.. take a chill pill man.

This thread is a testament to why MMO developers all think they're player-bases are a bunch of retards.

I took 30 days off for WOW when it released. I was 60 in 3 weeks and had a great time .

I will take time off for EQN, I hope the hype is worth it.

Do yourself a favor, go to work that day and come home knowing that all you've missed up to that point is a lot of server crashes.

Not taking any time off. I do however get to play at work, so might as well get paid to play.

    Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.

No matter how the game turns out, I'll have a full month or so just to play it :) I don't know why people are so negative about the game. I'll play it however it comes out because it's EVERQUEST :)

I have never taken any time off my work to play games on release day, for me I feel I have something to look foward to when I get home from work instead.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

    +1

If someone told me I could play an MMO for a week or hang out on a beach for a week, my next two responses would be:

    "What's an MMO?"

    and

    "Where are my sunglasses?"

Yeah, if the reveal in August really delivers, I've got a lot of PTO banked and will be doing same as you Pigglesworth.  Don't think I'll take a whole MONTH off though!

Please don't stay AT HOME to play ANY game while you're on vacation.

Going to the beach and getting drunk is a better option.

To recreate the classic everquest experience, I intend on not bathing, being antisocial, eating unhealthy foods, and neglecting important responsibilities and family.

Lol, taking time off work for an f n game. Not only is that stupid on a release day, but it s also a GAME. Take your days off and live.

I quit my job the day EQ Next was announced.  Can't be too prepared.

Well, if it is released this year, I only have 2 days left, between scheduled days for Gen Con, and a 12 day Hawaiian vacation, so I have my gaming and beach covered, although, I am not one to sit on a beach, I find it boring.  Thinking of giving scuba diving a shot, and probably be on the go to see stuff a lot of the time.

Now if it is next year, I get another week bump of time off, so I wouldn't cry over a couple days, if I like what they reveal, but not doing anything crazy.  I use a lot of time to just get away from work and relax for an extended weekend, so this would fall right in line with that.

My wife and I both plan to pre-order and play for several hours on release and I frankly don't care what anyone thinks about that. It's been awhile since either one of us have even done that or been excited about a game and it will be nice to have something to do together as such.

Depending on what the game ends up looking like, no, for either option. Doesn't help that I don't get vacation days at my current job, god I LOVE (sarcasm, somewhat) the restaurant industry. The first day for almost any online game is a crap shoot. Now if the game looks good, and lets pre-orders roll new characters early, that WON'T be wiped, I'll definitely pre-order it and play early, but that's only if the game looks worthwhile. If they don't let pre-orders get in beta early and keep their characters, I'll probably wait  a few weeks after release and get some reviews from the game before I start thinking about buying it.

I know that I'm a fickle person, but those few days with lesser amounts of people, makes the beginning grind a little easier. I don't want to fight over killing Fippy Darkpaw on day one. I've always hated to wait to fighting something too much. A minute here, a minute there, while I can do something else, semi-productive, I'm personally fine with. My main plan with this game, is to only play a little at a time, especially since it will probably be F2P (or is it going to be closer to a B2P), and slowly "skill" up, or however they do their leveling system. No matter what, if there is a one time fee for a silver level versus a bronze level, I will definitely pay that, but initially, until making payments worthwhile, I'll stay F2P, as I have no idea how much I will really play.

For those people that will take extended time off just to play the game, all I want to say to them is, "relax, it's only a game". If there is a true endgame, rushing it will kill enjoyment in the long run. Explore the world, mess up multiple times, and have fun. OK, rambling now, I'm shutting up

Whats wrong with taking some paid vacation time off to do something you enjoy?  What if the dude is a pro surfer, nascar driver, or just an IT guy, isn't enjoying a fun activity living?  Not everybody enjoys going to concerts and large events, some people like to stay home and just RELAX for a vacation.

Honestly I'm willing to bet that you are just bitter because you don't get a paid vacation.
