The absolute worst genre to get into without a large budget is the sci fi one.You are almost building 3 different games in one in an industry where most struggle to make one game inside the package.
You need space and flying ships, then you need planets then you need a world on each planet lol. Then you need space stations as well.Make no mistake CCP and their Eve is nothing to brag about,it is like 20% of an actual game missing tons of components of what would be considered a triple a game.CCP was lucky to get in first with no competition, there is no market left for this genre unless you can do it right and remove the players from Eve.
I have said for a long time,if you can't do the genre justice you should not even attempt it.What ends up happening is you get a whole game of half ass content and design. We can't even get developers of the easier genre "Fantasy" to give us all the components.
Look at SWTOR not a bad game but by most standards an average game and that is a 200 million dollar budget. It might seem like a good idea staying away from the saturated Fantasy market but it is a safer bet than trying to invade CCP's domain.Anyone that would play a half ass Eve type game is already playing it,so where are you going to get your player base from?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

It's scheduled to go into beta at the same time as the new Xsyon game, Citadel of Sorcery, Greed Monger, and Pathfinder Online
Sorry, couldn't resist.
It's a sad day indeed when a family is too afraid of reprisals to publicly thank somebody for saving their lives.
