Class/Starting City

Soki123Soki123 Member RarePosts: 2,558

Has it been determined that certain classes start in certain cities? If so, if I want to play with my wife for example that has a char starting in LL, and I m in Grin, can I just join her at level 1, and forget the quests I get from the start. Or is there another way it works. I keep reading different things on it.

Thanks

As far as I know there is an AirShip quest at 21 or 22 and that's the way you get to Limsa right now. In 1.00 there was a boat you could take but I don't know if the boat is being returned or not. Right now the only place that is really isolated is Limsa. If you both want to start at the same time, have your wife pick a different starter.

Actually if it's going to be mostly you and her playing, you go to Limsa. Marauder class is a solid class. I'd go in the opposite direction and just leave her be for 22 levels. Let her do her thing and you do yours.

Warrior, is on my list. Is Warrior considered a tank or dps? I really don t feel like tanking in an MMO , seems like that's all I do.

You could meet up with your wife and just return to the guild everytime  class quests would be ready. (i think lvl 5-1015 etc)

However you will need to lvl more than just 1 job anyways (at least some) so that you can unlock the Jobs (like Paladin Monk Dragon).

Maybe you could start lvling the second job you need first if that would allow you to start in the same city as your wife?

Thats how my wife and i will do it anyways ;)

I believe you can run to the other cities (I do know you can run from Ul'dah to Gridania, but haven't tried to get to Limsa before getting airship access). Also if you're talking about Marauder (which unlocks the Warrior job) I do believe they're mainly  tanks but I can't say for sure if they are a reliable DPS class as well though. only thing I know is that people tend to prefer them as tanks over Gladiators at the moment :P

At around level 15 you get the airship pass that lets you go to any of the cities and the main story for all cities converge.  It doesnt take very long to get to 15 and thats when the game really starts in my opinion and the story starts to really unfold.

Ya , my wife and I have just dabbled in beta. We ve probably made everything, but haven t got that high. We just want to see that at release. So at 15 I can go over to Limsa, as a pug, and quest with her there? Or do I have to keep going back to my starting city? Still unsure if the story quests require me to head back to my starting city or not?

I was led to believe it's a 21 quest but the point being, nothing in this game is level unlocked. There must be a quest that gets you Airship access. It may unlock at 15 I really don't know but I have a 1.00 character with plenty of classes over 15 and I can't use the Airship. (didn't do the quest)

Marauder is DD and tank. They are the closest we have to a Brawler class.

Yes first the main story will make you go to the other cities to talk to the cities leaders and than make both of you go to the same dungeons and another dungeon after that. Basically after that the main story leads everyone further away from their home cities.

Yeah you can get it at 15.

Also, there is a "boat" that takes you there.  If you go to Camp Horizon in Ul'Dah and go down that tunnel into a lower questing area there is a fishing hamlet off to the left.  There is a dock that will take you to LL lower decks.  You don't actually ride a boat, its just another loading screen.

I am not sure if you are required to already have the airship pass though.

Is that working?  They told me to come back when I have the money, even though I had thousands.

It's approximately 55,000 gil to use it at the moment.  Though I'm pretty sure that's just a bug.

Was lazy so I used it about twenty times on my old character.  xD

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

They took out the boat that you actually ride (from 1.0)? :(

Being 15 was a coincidence. You got it for doing the level 15 Story line, Adventurers Guild Quest. I haven't done that quest yet, hence my level 30 Conjurer still doesn't have an Airship pass.

The problem here I've found is if you are lv 20 from Ul'Dah and go to lv 20 zone for Gridania the quests won't be there, it seems that you need to quest chain open the areas? Or maybe the areas I went to had no quests. I spent a good time portion looking in other areas for quests sadly.

So the main story quests (and all the quest hubs there after) merge into the same arc after the level 15 dungeons quests? Then again, I would think it wont matter, class quests will probably keep making you go back to the starter areas every 5 levels.

You could technically level with her at the very beginning based off what classes you pick.

Lancer, Archer, Conjurer in New Gridana

Gladiator, Pugilist, Thaumaturge in Ul' Dah

Marauder and Arcanist in Lumia Loscea.

    (sp) on all that stuff.

If you start in Ul' Dah or Gridana you can run to each other and bid in whatever newbie zone you would like. The only down side would be that you would have to teleport back to your hometown to do your main quest. (I recommend doing this while she sleeps or whatever).

Like others said, if you hit level 15  in the story quest you get access to the Air Ship and can pass easily to each main city.

Level fifteen as of right now only  takes a few hours.
