I always loved platforming in console games.. i know this is an mmo and should be devoid of all things viceral according to the mmo elite.. but since you can jump.. does that mean theres lots of platforming gameplay?? that would be really fun.

Not that I've seen thus far. You'd definitely like GW2 though.
Not at this time; maybe when they will release jumping puzzles when the Crystal Towers come out. For now just ask 1000 Lala's to line up in sort of a "puzzle formation" and have the rest of the races jump over them and around them and under them.
Platforming is so prevalent on consoles because it was originally and still is a simple gameplay feature that's easy to implement and use on consoles. Especially given the primate input device (game pads). Entire games are created for consoles that include this one feature and this one feature only.
Of course console gamers find it fun, it was at one time the only feature console games had to offer. You have learned to like and expect if from your console games through repetitive exposure to it..
But to PC gamers it's like someone trying to serve you stale meat when you have prime rib sitting in front of you. PC gamers have never had to settle for "jumping" puzzles because we have had games with an endless feature list almost from day one.
Only recently have console games started to explore the use of PC type gameplay and features, but its still like comparing the stone age to the modern society.
If I wanted my game to consist of jumping from floating platform to floating platform I'll go bust out my ATARI.
Yoshi-P has been pretty clear in his stance to platforming. He wants players to be able to explore the areas freely, but they will likely not design situations that require platforming skills.
Elitist much? I feel bad for you that an extremely fun mechanic such as platforming is so "beneath" your refined video gamer tastes. You're like the guy who can't enjoy a beer because "wine is much more refined".
Says the guy that goes to a wine tasting and asks if they have anything "on tap"
There was a zone in FFXI that required some skill climbing and not falling off - obviously w/o jumping it wasn't platforming, but it was as close as you could get without it. I can't remember the zone, but it was the desert zone that had the Bones NM ... with all the scorpion trains. There was a big mountain in the middle that you had to climb for something - part of the story quest I'm pretty sure. I'll have to go figure it out and edit this post.
Anyway, my point is it's not like this *sort* of thing is unheard of. I wouldn't expect much of it though and it will be part of doing something else, not a "somethiing" in and of itself.
Sounds like you mean (Eastern?) Altepa Desert? I'm not sure but I think climbing that mountain was indeed a later main-story mission if you belonged to Bastok; the one about the Galka rebirth process, etc? Never climbed the mountain myself though...
Yeah, I'm guessing crystal tower, if nothing else, is going to have something like this perhaps.
yeah... thats why games like mario 64 was so freakin fun to play huh? so going straight with no jumping is somehow more advance to you? how about climbing? you dont think thats immersive?
platforming games are the best elements in games besides combat, how about we take god of war or devil may cry and put your standards on there.. we would have static fighting and all you do is press forward to move anywhere with no deviation and somehow thats better to you?
mmos are trying to catch up to console games, not the other way around, if bandwidth wasn't an issue, mmos would have god of war style combat already.. genius, take your elitesism somewhere else.. nobody cares
Not sure what you are referring to. I never asked if the game (which I assume is the wine tasting) has anything on tap (the platforming I guess?)
I was merely responding to the idea that the poster was acting like a jerk talking down to anyone who enjoys platforming.
